sbpaabck Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Yes, it does look rather nice... Did you buy the case or is it a custom build? I notice the dvd drive has been removed - what size hdd did u use? Also are the case lights (extra fans?) running from the dvd power supply? nice bit of kit that!
Nextel Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) Here you go sir, i've used this on my 1.4ghz and works like a charm. Good luckWorked well for me on all emulators and anything needed. http://www.mediafire.com/?vmnnzwxndnj BTW, nice job on the clear case, if i'm looking at it right......did you slim it down? Edited May 6, 2010 by Nextel
ace9094 Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 how long did the board take to arrive once you paid him? thanks
Neo369 Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 @ PhilExile - Yes, I can test it for you. PM me a link with what you would like tested, emu and all. I will do it within the next week.@ ace9094 - Thanks!@ sbpaabck - I bought the case here. It also came with a small ring of 4 leds that i put in there to add some light. Yes, I got rid of the DVD drive, and my new HDD is 320GB =]. There are many lights. The ones that came with the case obviously plus controller port lights and custom power board lights. Finally, the fan is a blue led fan, and i have an iceberq 4 pro that has blue leds. The main fan is running from the HDD power so is at full power, and the iceberq is running from the motherboard in the space where the old GPU cooler used to plug in so it is also at full power. Trusty installed the extra fan connector for me (very nice surprise, its a 1.4 XBOX, so it wouldn't normally have one there). The original fan connector sits unused currently. The dvd power is also untapped. The connector is very specific, and i didn't feel like messing with it, so I'm not using it.@ Nextel - Thanks for the patch. I think that's the same as the one I have, I will be trying it out as soon as I get a bit more free time again. Did you patch every .xbe file or just default.xbe's? And you are correct, it is a slim =]. Do you approve?@ ace9094 - He had it ready when I paid him, so it took only a few days to arrive. I actually sent my board to him to get modified, and I think the total time was only three weeks. Plus, my package was on hold for a while because of the volcano in Iceland, so take off a few days at least. It was very quick service, and he is trustworthy for sure (it's his name lol).
Nextel Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Hell yeah i approve. I've been afraid to cut into any translucent case because i didnt knowhow the dremel marks would look. I believe i only patched the .xbe's in games (usually only 1)and I think for Coinops i had to patch the default.xbe and the MAMEox.xbe too. That box looksreally good too, well bloody done.
Neo369 Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) yea, i was a bit afraid how it would look after, but it came out nice. a little cloudy, but after a bit of sanding and enough toothpaste i had the cuts looking fairly clear again too. i used my old case to practice cut first so i could get an idea what i was doing. thanks dude.just touching on the other topic you were helping me with Nextel, my CPU gets up to 170F or 77C. do you think this is a problem? i used arctic silver 5, but the normal heatsink that trusty sent me. also, my gpu has an iceberq, and is pretty good temperature-wise.last thing, i wanted to make a couple changes to my bios (boot order, logo colors, random stuff), how many times can that tsop be flashed without screwing it up? trusty sent it to me flashed already, so i think he only did it once, but idk for sure. also, since he did it the first time, idk what to use. should i just do the 007 installer or is there a different way to do it if your bios is already flashed? Edited May 7, 2010 by Neo369
Nextel Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 That TSOP can be flashed again, i dont know if there really is a limit but i would avoid doing it alot.Since it's a 1.4 xbox you'll have to use the raincoat utility to flash it. This is not as cut and dry asflashing a 1.0 xbox or a modchip. The bios included from Trusty doesnt have an .ini file to changethings either, it's got to be done with XBtool. Your CPU temp is getting pretty high up there, make surethe heatsink is seated down all the way and make sure none of the corners are looser than others. I would also jack up the fan speed of the rear fan using XBtool. For instance, when your xbox bootsthe fan runs at 20% but when your BIOS loads up it will put the speed to whatever you had set it in XBtool.I would atleast set it at 50-70%. Test it out first in XBMC though since you have the option to use fan overrideand make sure it's not too loud but i would almost take that loud box instead of a dead 1.4ghz box ya know?
Neo369 Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 I have used XBtool, and have the bios I want to flash on there ready. I'll look at the raincoat thing, thanks. Fan speed is at full since I am running from the HDD power in the first place, so yea, its loud, but if it will keep my box alive, its worth it. Plus with my surround speakers, the whine of a fan gets drowned out pretty easily. If temps don't go down at all, I'm gonna add some intake fans on the left side of the box. That should take care of it. And those I'll put to the motherboard power so I can turn them down if they get too loud when I'm watching movies and stuff.
Nextel Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 You could always get another 60mm or 40mm blue LED fan and fix it to the top of the CPU heatsink, since you've slimmed it and there is nothing above the CPU youshould have the room to do it. That way you can avoid cutting into the case more aswell.
Neo369 Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 thats not a bad idea. pretty much hack together a cpu cooler. that or someone on xbox-scene had suggested an air vent from the heatsink to the fan to direct the air better. i dont think i would need to cut the case with these new fans though. just cut the EM shield a bit and zip-tie them on the inside. they are pretty thin.
Nextel Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 You could zip tie them however, your limited in space under the hard drive or next to the PSU.The smaller fan that you get, the louder they seem, just speaking from the two times i did that.It seemed loud and once i unplugged the fan it was quiet as a baby. This is where i had mine (circled in blue)and it was too damn loud. Those two rear fans i had though were actually pretty quiet now that i go and plug it in.Maybe one or two of those and you'd ben doing good. THink they were 40mm antecs. NOTE: this box was a super slim box, hence the chopped up inside)
PhilExile Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 It looks like you have a v1.0 board there. I know a way to cut the noise significantly. That fan on the GPU is ridiculously loud. What you need to do is remove it, along with the heatsink its connected to. Order this part as a replacement: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835118002 You'll also need thermal adhesive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835100005 Taking the heatsink off is a bit of a pain, there is a lot of pulling and wiggling involved, but it will come up eventually. Once you get it off, there will most likely be thermal pad residue. You need to remove this with 99% or better rubbing alcohol. Once it is sparkling clean, afix the new heatsink with the adhesive and you'll be good to go. I've done this to all of my 1.0 xbox systems and it works like a charm. Good luck
ace9094 Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 wow, I would love a super modded xbox like these, Does anyone here know someone in the UK that can mod them? I cant afford the memory and CPU upgrade yet, but i might be able to push for the memory upgrade if postage is in the UK. the service from trusty for a cpu and memory upgrade will cost me £180. Sadly i can't afford that for quite a while, so if anyone knows someone in the UK who can do a memory upgrade please let me know. thanks PS still jealous lol
eparsox Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 where can one find more info on this mod from trusty and anyone know where you can find hdd compatibile with xbox know and days thanks parsox
