I'm in the process of installing a 40GB hard drive and I'm having problems getting it locked. The net says it's a lockable hard drive. So I'm wondering if there is another program I can run to get it locked?

My drive is a IBM DeskStar #IC35L040AVER07-0 40GB

Try Liveinfo, it needs the new hdd connected to pc, also the backup of the eprom of the Xbox. It will calculate the right password code to lock the hdd.

Boot up your xbox with a copy of Slayer's Auto Installer disc. It has an option to lock and unlock the hard drive.

Should do. It's been ages but I remember when I first installed evox using Slayer's I left the drive unlocked for some reason and rebooted, and it booted the disc again fine. Then I locked it. I have a modchip though, dunno if that has anything to do with it. Can't hurt to try.

The magic word there Ice_Man. Modchip. Chipped machines dont need the lock as the bios and stuff is circumnavigated (bypassed). Softmods are a different kettle of fish so to speak. Shit better run off to google and get my facts right BP will be all over this thread if not.

The first post didn't specify chip or softmod, so I was just posting what I know. I had a feeling softmod might be problem.

So If im soft modded I'm skrewed? You know whats weird is, I went ahead and tried to just re-format and re use my stock 8 gig drive and it does the same thing. I'm using xboxhdm 1.9. I know the stock drive is lockable, so what gives??????

Im gonna throw this one in here but here goes, did you include the unlock/lock code (or at least write it down) in your iso ?

Ive never actually used the lock/unlock as ive never had it work for me. I used Kinroaches installer with no eeprom using the hotswap method, being sure to include the correct dash and kernel for your unmodded box when building your iso. Then as soon as i power down the xbox it locks the hdd anyway. From there you can update the dash n kernel once it successfully boots.

yes I wrote it down, I wrote everything down. When I reboot the drive and select option #3 in XBOXHDM 1.9, it shows the password. Is it possible I messed up in the making of the ISO image when I was backing up all the info? At lest I have my Eprom back up in like 3 different places.

This is what I'm afraid of. If that is wrong, will it not let me lock a hard drive in XBOXHDM?

If you builded correctly from scratch the new hdd in XBOXHDM using the backup of the old hdd and then you lock it with the right password, it should work. Are you sure that you lock it using the right password ? The password depends not only by the EEPROM but also by the hdd serial number. This is the reason because Liveinfo doesnt need only the XBox EEPROM backup but also the new hdd connected to pc. I think you should try this sequence:

-with liveinfo in the pc and the new hdd connected to the pc, you calculate the right password

-with the cd generated by XBOXHDM you build from scratch the new hdd

-with the cd generated by XBOXHDM you lock manually the hdd using the password generated by liveinfo
