emsley Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 EDIT: Excuse me Im the forum drunk, this guy needs a dreamcast emulator. Hang in there.
Agozer Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 We don't need to know where you got the game, you don't have to tell us. Warned. I know this may sound a bit cold-hearted, but if you don't know anything about emulation, then Dreamcast emulation is probably the last place for you to start. Furthermore, educate yourself. This isn't a place where give you step-by step instructions regarding every single detail, when it's clear that you haven't done done anything to help yourself. What we can give you are the names of some of the more usable emulators for starters. nullDC and Demul are good choices. Continue from here by reading whatever documentation a given emulator has, and then fiddle around with the emulator itself, just to get a feel for it. If the emulator doesn't have any decent documentation, fiddle with the emulator anyway. It's not like it's going to blow up your computer if you happened to check the "wrong" settings. You can also ask us to clarify any error messages that you might encounter plus other questions you might have, but for the love of god, don't expect us to tell you how to use an emulator and a game from start to finish. If you are going to pirate something, at least make an effort to figure out how to work with the stuff you have.
emsley Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 There ya go mr 47 youll be fine you just got good advice.
The-Ice-Man Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 You could always burn it to a disc and play it in a real dreamcast. Much better that way.
mr47 Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 (edited) OK , i' ve downloaded alcohol 120 and created a virtual drive and mounted the image , What should i do next ? please somebody help me. Should i put the bin file into the data file or do something else ? what is bios ?when i click nulldc_1.0.3_mmu or nulldc_1.0.3_nommu I get this message : Unable to find bios -- exitingG:\nullDC_103\data\dc_boot.bin Edited October 17, 2009 by mr47
Agozer Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Both nullDc and Demul can work with disc images directly, so there is no need for mounting nor virtual drives. nullDc use its imageReader plugin by default, probably Demul too (gdrImage). Just make sure that you have the right plugins selected and configured (if they need any configuration, usually just selecting the image plugin as the active CD-ROM plugin suffices).
emsley Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 ^ even though its perfect advice noobs wont get it. x
Robert Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Oh, and it sounds like you don't have the bios. Do a search on the net for that.
emsley Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 reminds me of neo-geo emulation when i was a totall noob.
Agozer Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 ^ even though its perfect advice noobs wont get it. xWhich makes it even more of an incentive for him to actually look at the emulator menus and settings himself.
mr47 Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 (edited) OK , i downloaded bios and flash and renamed them, now nulldc comes up , but it wants one of .cdi .mds .nrg .gdr formats not the bin/cue, in options there is GDrom menu and in it there is : use default image or select default image ,and in file there is : open bin/elf load bin/elf . What should i do now ? It's step by step fellas , i'm awaiting further instructions Edited October 18, 2009 by mr47
Agozer Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 BIN/CUE image format is not selfboot. Meaning that no Dreamcast emulator, not to mention the actual console, will boot that game without the aid of a bootdisc (which is probably why nullDC developers ditched support for that image format. Why people still rip Dreamcast games as BIN/CUE is beyond me - or rather, why those haven't been abolished from the Internet. Considering that bootdisc usage is a hit-and-miss affair with emulators (Utopia supposedly works, sometimes) and adds one more hurdle to jump over, I'd suggest that you ditch the image you have and look for a selfboot image instead. For the record, all other image formats used these days are self-boot and only the BIN/CUE pairing is non-selfboot because it only supports one data track. Note: The "right" way to load games in nullDC is to use File --> Normal Boot, which let's you choose the disc image you want to use (if you are using the gdrImage plugin). Options --> GDRom --> Use Default Image is for those who want to immediately start a game whenever nullDC is started, and not bother themselves with choosing a disc image to boot, i.e. the default disc image to load every time.
mr47 Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 Thanks for your advice , i made a .cdi image with bin2 boot and loaded it into nulldc , some processing happened , my mouse got hidden and then an error message was sent which siad it encountered a problem and needed to be closed , I think my low RAM is the problem , isn't it ? It' 256 MB
