newbie with arcade emulation Daves Dtmnt

Recommended Posts

Im tryin to play teenage mutant ninja turtles arcade game but i get this mesage on ms-dos,

======= Dave's TMNT emulator =======

Version 0.55 - compiled Nov 24 1998

<--- Getting config from 'dtmnt.ini'

RomSets you (seem to) have in 'roms\' :

You don't seem to have rom_set 1

You don't have any rom sets at all in directory 'roms\'

(Without the original roms any emulator is useless.)

This usually means getting the romset, making a subdirectory (folder) roms\

And then putting the romset into it.

Trying to load ROM SET 1 from path 'roms\'

(This rom set looks like 963-r21 etc... 4-player)

WARNING - Couldn't load roms\963-r23

How do I fix this???????

Unless your computer is really old, I'd suggest downloading MAME instead of an emulator that only plays a single game (or two) and haven't been updated in ages.

The error you get is most likely because the emulator itself expects the romset to be a really old one. Many arcade games are often redumped and emulators that are not updated at a regular basis do not support the new sets.

for MAME links, check the corresponding threads in the News 6 Updates forum.

Enough with the caps, we get you.

Download MAME32Plus! here: http://mameplus.emu-france.com/

It saves you from a lot of hassle because it has a good GUI so you don't have to start messing with the command line. If you don't know how to use it, read the manual and put some effort into learning at least the very basics of it; it isn't very difficult.

If you still have trouble understanding certain tings after reading the manual, feel free to ask more questions.

As for the romset of the original arcade game, you'll have to find that on your own. We won't/can't help you with that.

The version you are trying to play is the UK version of TMNT.

Therefore you will need to find and download tmnt.zip and tmntu.zip,

and place these into your roms folder, which will be just under

the mame32 executable.

Then, start up mame32, press the F5 key to refresh the roms list,

find your game in the list, and start playing!

No you don't need to create a if you don't want to. MAME automatically looks for romsets in the 'roms' folder, unless you've specified other folders where it should look.

Also, do not extract the files from the romsets anywhere, just put the zipped romsets in the 'roms' folder.
