Hey I dunno whats wrong with my Windows Media Player but everytime I try to load a WMP video from online sources (if the player is playing out of a site on IE or something) it never works. It just says closed or something. I don't think its a codec problem because it would dl it but I'm not sure... any suggestions?

Problem solved by not using WMP........there are plenty of better alternatives out there.

Media Player Classic being one.

VideoLan Client works pretty good too. I use that one.

Yes, for the love of intarweb deities, don't use WMP for anything unlerss you have no other choice. VideoLAN, BSPlayer, ZoomPlayer, anything else goes.

He asked for help with WMP and thats what he should get help with. Not telling him to use other players.

If its WMP10 uninstall it. reboot the PC then reinstall WMP10 :naughty:

bah don't listen to these guys, my WMP runs anything perfectly (yes even ogm) and I never have problems with, besides Bullshit Player and MPC suck ass. VLC is good sometimes..

It's not about what WMP can play or can't play, since most media players nowadays will *try* to play anything you throw at them, provided that all your codecs have been installed correctly.

The problem with WMP is that it's tied too strictly to the operating system, has more bloat than necessary features, and lacks some advanced features that many people want. Media Player Alternative is a very good choice (hence the name), but the original WMP can rot for all I care.

Why help someone with a piece of software when it has been surpassed long ago by media players that look better and work better? If the person asking specifically says that he doesn't want to use other players (whatever reason that may be), then it's another matter.

WMP is in the same boat as IE and all of Microsofts garbage. JUNK that doesn't get the job done right and is intertwined with the OS far too much. No application should should be interwoven into an OS........ever.

Thats strange IE and WMP can be uninstalled and has no affect on the OS.

You obviously don't know too much about what you speak of then. When you "uninstall" either, the shortcuts and system references are simply removed. BOTH are still 100% present on your system unless you use a 3rd party method/tool to remove them. The same goes with Windows Messenger, it's not gone when you select to remove it in the Add/Remove Programs thing for Windows Software.

And you must have IE to use the Windows Update site. Tell me that doesn't make what should be a simple application, a necessary system function? A browser should not function this way, or a website.......everything Windows ships with sucks, including Windows itself.

I've never had problems with Windows either, and what Cinder said pretty much goes... except the very last comment.

But whatever.

What may I ask is that? The part where I said everything Windows ships with, including windows itself?

I'm not being argumentative, but if all of your Windows games worked in Linux, would you not ditch Windows? I know I would, thats the ONLY reason I even use Windows.
