  1. Hey! I repied, didn't you see it? Like I said though, since you are most likely getting this for the Pokemon games I would give a big thumbs down for this card. Check out the one I posted above as this one seems to support everything you need to be able run the Pokemon games on it. Gamboy-advance.net is "the" place to go for all of your flash card needs and I have seen plenty of people link to this site on other forums as well as this one when it come to GBA flash cards. I won't trust anyone else when I finally get my own flash card. Check out the link and show it to your dad. It has all of the information you need and they won't rip you off. If you or your dad still have questions let me know.

  2. I have had issues with several Playstation games that work perfectly as an ISO but become almost totally unplayable after I burn them even when playing FMVs right off the burned copy on the computer. The problem not only occurs when I play the game on the computer but also if I try to use it on a real Playstation. I have tried burning the games in different burn modes at different speeds with different burning programs and different burners and all of them turn out the same way.

I have recently tried burning the games on Lite-On, Sony, and HP burners on Memorex CD-Rs. I have used Nero 6 and 7 (Premium versions) as well as Alcohol 120% (using both the default Playstation settings as well as others) and even CloneCD (SlySoft's latest version) to burn with. I have an old LG burner that I haven't tried yet but I'm running out of discs to burn with and I don't feel like waisting any more of them. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

The main games I have been trying to burn are Final Fantasy IX and Tomb Raider. Final Fantasy and Tomb Raider skip like crazy when playing FMVs and Tomb Raider has tons of issues in emulators after being burned (while at the same time works perfectly using using the image in a virtual drive). I have not tried a burned copy of Tomb Raider on a real Playstation yet but I'm sure it will give me tons of problems like FFIX is giving me.

Please help? I'm trying to burn new copies of FFIX for my brothers since all 4 of their original discs are damaged beyond repair and I have perfect images of them on my computer (tested with CDmage) and they don't like to use emulators.

    [EDIT]

Whey does noone ever answer me when I need help? :P

    [EDIT]

    PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

I used an old CD burner that I had and it is working perfectly now. I guess DVD burners have problems burning in RAW mode sometimes.

  3. Hey now, let's not turn this into an argument.

I decided to got to Gamespot.com to see what they had to say about these games and to get a little more information. First it seems that Gamefreak has nothing to do with this game. Instead Nintendo went with a company called ChunSoft who apparently are infamous for their "Mystery Dungeon" games, which according to the reviews, are not really good.

Red got a 5.4 and Blue got a 5.2 (mediocre for both) average rating by Gamespot. Player ratings very drasticlly depending on the voter. This apparently is due to the fact that these games are nothing more then "dugeon hacks" with some Pokemon stuff added to it. Before I go any further just know that I am stating this based on the Gamespot reviews and not my own opinion. I will however admit that I do find the game to be a bit tedious and repetitive but the story (and the fact that it's a Pokemon game) is what keeps me playing.

Many of you I'm sure have been wondering what the difference is between the Red and Blue versions of the game since they are different systems. The fact is that graphics wise there is no difference whatsoever for the DS version. The bottom screen shows everything that the GBA screen shows and it uses the top screen to show map locations and party stats depending on your location.

You can find the gamespot review pages here:

    Red Rescue Team (GBA)

    Blue Rescue Team (NDS)

I would post more information myself but my thoughts clash greatly with that of Gamespot's review staff so I'll just let you read it for yourself and make your own opinion about it. You can find in-game videos and player reviews as well as Gamespot's main review by clicking on the above links.

    [EDIT]

I finally got the Blue Rescue Team rom that I have working on a DS emulator. As I said above there is no real difference between it and Red Rescue Team exept for the fact that Blue shows some extra stuff on the top screen, like location maps and party info, and it allows you to use the touch screen to make menu selections and scroll through speeches by touching the screen in the appropriate areas. Gameplay graphics and everything else are exactly like Red so it really all depends on what system you prefer to play on.

  4. I finally saw a commercial at Wal-Mart that showed Blue Rescue Team being played. The graphics looked the same as Red Rescue Team but the top screen showed party stats and stuff. I only got a short glimps of it but this is basiclly what I saw. The commercial was short anyway so it didn't show much. Hopefully there is a video somewhere on the internet of it being played.

P.S. That's it, no more clicking on Samurai Edge's sig links! Bad Haldrie!

  5. Ok, I think I see what you are asking. The fact is that there are a lot of different GBA flash cards out there. You can get information for just about all of them (the good ones anyway) from http://www.gamboy-advance.net.

Each flash card works differently and compatibility between different GBA compatible systems such as the micro and NDS is also an issue. Each flash card works by loading the roms that are stored on it from a menu that appears when you start the GBA system you are using (at least that's what I believe happens). You select the rom and begin playing it like you would the real game.

The way you get the roms onto the flash card depends on the card itself. Most will allow you to drag and drop your rom straight to the the card through My Computer. Others require special software that flashes the card with the roms you choose so that they will play on your GBA system. All of them will require special hardware or cables in order to connect them to your computer and will usually come with this extra stuff. Software however will need to be downloaded from the internet.

I have downloaded the software for this card and tested it using Red Rescue Team and the save patch feature is a problem. Basiclly it will probably cause the same issues as the IPS patches for the emulator does. I would recemmend you choose a different flash card as this one does not appear to support any of the Pokemon game's save type.

What you should be looking for if you want to play Pokemon games (I'm guessing that is why you are looking for a flash card) is one that supports 128KB Flash save (and Real Time Clock for Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald).

Check the link above and click on "Compare Flash Cards" to get an overview of what each card is compatible with. The GBA X-ROM flash card seems to be the most promising for what I believe you plan on doing with it. Here is a link to the info page:

    http://gameboy-advance.net/flash_card/gba_X-ROM.htm

As far as DS games, you will have to buy special hardware called Pass-me or something similar (there are several different ones). These devices require an actual DS game to boot with and allow you to run NDS games from a GBA flash card using you NDS system. Most DS games will need to be patched in some way before they are able to run this way and only curtain flash card support booting DS roms even after they are patched. I would suggest you look around a bit first before choosing a flash card for this purpose.

The actual sale sites use secure servers for credit card purchasing so your parents should not worry about someone stealing they're information if they buy this for you. As long as they order from the sites listed for purchasing they should be fine. Don't forget to look for the secure icon (may only show on purchasing pages) at the bottom-right of your browser and make sure there is no spyware on your computer before entering any personal information just to be sure.

Hopfully this answers your questions and I hope everything works out for you. I'm sure one of the 1emu staff might post some extra information that I might not have mentioned that may also be helpful.

I should also note that I do not own a flash card myself so everything I have posted above is based on what I have seen or read. I have done quite a bit of research on this and most of it has been though the site I posted above so check it out for more info and don't rush your choice. I don't know everything about this though as I only did so much research so you might find more info that have not mentioned.

  6. I guess I would have been considered a newb when I got started since I was already use to using google and would spend several months sometimes looking for what I wanted. I have been into emulaion since high school when I overheared someone talking about playing Playstation on their computer. At that time I never even knew such a thing was possible and began searching to see what other kinds of emulators were out there. I now do my best to keep up with the best and lastest emulators for every system I can find (or care about) and have built up quite a large rom and ISO collection for several different systems.

As for 1emu, I first came here because I was just getting into Dreamcast emulation (well actually in general since I have never owned a DC myself). I don't remember why I actually joined (or if I ever posted anything before my VBA save posts in the General Handheld sub-forum) but I remember that I found everyone here to be very friendly. I am probably one of the few people that read the rules when I joined seeing all of these rom requests going around.

I have been recently declared 1emu's "residintial Pokemon expert" (quoting K'dash) because of my topics that now dominate the General Handheld sub-forum. Once of these topics (my first actually) has been around since early March of this year and has only recently become a hot topic. I thank the admin and mod teams for doing such a good job with 1emulation. It's because of you that I (and I'm sure many others here) continue to make 1emulation the number one place to go for everything emu (now if only people would read the rules when they join).

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh dear, I'm rambling again (and bragging, what's wrong with me?). TMI, Hal, TMI.

  7. Yeah, the most I can get are a few logo screens and some 2D icons and that's about it. Although I haven't downloaded these new games because well...I can't read japanese and like Agozer said NDS emulation has a log way to go so unless you have a flash card for the DS there really isn't much point in downloading commercial roms.

If you do want to get a flash card to try them on a real NDS then goto gameboy-advance.net. They have everything you could ever want as far as flash cards and stuff for the GBA and NDS systems.

  8. well it's better than making a new thread

Exactly, what's the point of having five or six threads about the same thing just because the others died out for a while? Besides, all you guys are doing is going off topic. So what if I'm reserecting it, at least I'm looking at what threads are availible insead of spamming it with 2 or 3 threads that are the exact same thing as what has already been posted in the past.

Anyway (trying to get this thread back on topic), how are the controls in this version of Mario Kart. I've heard that they are a bit harder then on the N64 version and judging by the first posts here I'm guessing that might be true. Is it because the game has changed from the N64 version or just because you don't have the luxury of the joystick?

  9. Actually, I'm using 1.8.0 beta 3. Although it should work with 1.7.2 anyway seeing as how the Pokemon games were the main reason for that version release in the first place. All other previous versions won't play the new Pokemon games. They just show a black screen when you load them.

I seem to be having a problem getting my Rescue Team ROM to save properly to battery. I'm using Visual Boy Advance 1.7.2 and I have the vba-over.ini file in the same folder as the Visual Boy program, but whenever I try saving to battery on Rescue Team, it doesn't work. I inserted the information provided in a pervious post into the .ini file and I even tried the flash save file trick, but it's not working for me. Everytime I try to save it just says it "failed". Any ideas or help?

The "save file trick" (that I think your talking about) will only work if you have a save that was made by using an IPS patch (as I stated on that post I have not tried this trick myself so there are not yet any guarentees). It allows you to make a working save out of it. I'm going to assume that you are not using any IPS patches at this point. Just so you know I have replied to your PM, I'm just posting information here for furture viewers.

As I have already said in the PM I sent, the last person I helped had an issure where his vba-over.ini file was named "vba-over.ini.ini". This most likely happened because Windows will hide file extentions to known file types by default. To ensure that your file is being saved correctly type "vba-over.ini" (with the quotes) in the save dialog box in notepad. This will prevent notepad from adding .txt to the end of the file (the .txt of corse will most likely be hidden by default once the file is saved). A good way to check that your vba-over.ini file is an .ini file is to look at the icon. INI files have a different icon then TXT files.

In order to allow Windows to show the file extentions for every file do the following:

    - Open an explorer window (My Computer or My Documents will do fine)

    - Click on "Tools" and select "Folder Options..."

    - Choose the "View" tap at the top

    - In the "Advanced Settings" area, find the section that says "Hidden files and folders"

    - Scroll down and uncheck the box that says "Hide extentions for know file types"

That's it. You should now see the .*** extention for every file on your computer. Double check and make sure that your vba-over.ini has the correct file name. If not you can always post you questions here or PM me as usual and I will do my best to find the problem. Just make sure that you have followed all of the steps post in this topic and double check that they were done correctly. I understand how complicated this is for someone who doesn't exactly know what they are doing and I am trying to make the instructions as simple and easy to follow as I can. Once you do get everything working you can see just how easy this really is.

Also, if you have anything you would like to add that you think might help out others feel free to post it like Jarujin did above (I know I countered that post with my own comment but I just think it's too much trouble to have to keep moving everything around when I know there is an easier way).

Now, just so everyone knows, this does work so don't get discouraged. Everything I have posted here I have done myself (except where otherwise mentioned). I will take as much time as I can to help anyone that asks (it's strange seeing as how this is how I use this character in FFXI but on the other hand it's just who I am).

    [EDIT]

If you are still having issues after everything that is posted here you can try using this vba-over.ini file that I use. I have modified it so it only includes the Pokemon games for now but I plan on updating it with more games later. Just extract the file into the same directory as VBA.

    [EDIT]

BTW, I'm still here. Anyone needing help with anything here feel free to ask. I hope everyone has found this topic and the attached file useful.

    vba_over.zip

  10. dungeon.filb.de

copy and paste that into your browser for a website where you post your codes and stuff for people to save you and they do, you can also save people, kinda competitive because people can be doing the same mission at the same time.

Nice find Jarujin. This will definitely help a lot of people out.

  11. I think GC forgot to mention that their in Japanese.

Drakko: This is the real Diamond, the GBC rom of it is some monster catching game thats more similar too Monster Rancher.

Actually the fact that they're in Japanese is in this topic's title (and in the screenshots that GC posted). I've had the rom of the GBC version of Diamond for quite some time now but I've never actually played it. It'll be good to finally have a fresh storyline in the Pokemon series instead of a bunch of remakes.

  12. Hey can you get spyware or any kind of virus from browsing the web on you ds/wii/psp?

    Just curious

I don't believe this is possible since these systems don't store browser data like PCs do. Spyware works by saving files or secretly installing files onto your computer. It can even modify registry entrys in Windows. These video game systems don't have anywhere for spyware or viruses to "download" themselves to so you should be safe from these kinds of things. I also don't think that anyone would be twisted enough to make a virus for any internet capable video game system. That would just be messed up.

  13. You're this forums resident Pokemon expert?

Also announcing these games now... youre a bit late. Just try the Magic Box for any info you need.

Id play them except.. well... screw the DS.

K'dash is the one I'm quoting there. The only reason I found them was because I was looking for a site that had an ISO for the playstion ntsc-u version of Tomb Raider 2. I happened to stubble upon a site that had these two game shown on it's home page.

I think K'dash said that because I'm the one that figured out how to get the GBA Pokemon games and have taken the time to post all the info and keep it as up to date as possible. I was just lucky that I went to Nintendo.com the day of Mystery Dugeon's release and when I saw it I started looking for the rom. The first person I saw that had posted a link for it had already patched and that's when I realized that the news had not quite gotten out about my fix (one rom site already had thier own fix and were jerks when I posted my link and told to say I had a better one). I then decided to focus as much time as I could to keeping my topic as up to date as I could. Now it has nearly 4000 views and counting and I'm actually getting people joing the forum just to ask me for help like Jarujin did.

Anyway, I'm rambled long enough. Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out and see what I can find.

Also, does anyone know which one of the many DS emulator's out there can play commercial games best? I want to get a flash card but I just don't have the money right now and I want to check out Blue Rescue Team since I already have the rom. I figured I'd ask since I'm on the subject of Pokemon anyway.

    [EDIT]

Wow, this is a cool site. K'dash is right it says that they were realeased on the 28th but I can't find any more information on them. I guess it's because they are so new. I'll wait a few days and then try again and see if I can find information then.

    [EDIT]

    http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-x3e-71...-j-70-1i4u.html

Silly me. I googled Pearl and this was the first link. It gives a brief overview of the two games and It seems I was right about the online feature (battling and trading). It also let's you trade from all of the other GBA Pokemon games and has an online voice chat feature. Check out the link to see for yourself. The are also several in-game screenshots.

  14. Since I've made a reputation here as being this forums "Pokemon expert" I thought I'd go ahead and be the first (at least I hope I'm the first) to announce two new Pokemon games that have been released for the Nintendo Dual-Screen system in Japan. Pokemon Pearl and Pokemon Diamond. I don't know when they were released yet and I haven't checked any news about them as I found out about them by seeing roms on a couple of sites that I visited looking for another game. The cover picure says that is is DS WiFi compatible which I'm guessing means that there is an online play fearure like Mario Kart DS and a few other games. I will do some more digging around when I can find more time and post what I find here.

  15. Well, unfortunately the problem still exists with version 1.9 and I do not think it has anything to do with the emulators themselves but with windows accessing the drives. The only change I did notice was a different debug code then the one I posted above:

    1: 00000000-0002025f

This is now what is being displayed but other then that there is no change. The only way I'm able to play these games is by using a CD image.

    [EDIT]

I would also like to add that I am really impressed with pSX's progress. I think pSX will soon surpass ePSXe in a very short amount of time at this rate. When I get some money I will gladly donate whatever I can to help these guys.

    [EDIT]

    PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

I decided to try an old CD burner that I had to read the discs with and it now works perfectly. The problem was the RAW reading ability of the DVD drives. It couldn't send the data it was suppose to so it spat out a bunch of errors. Anyway, it works now.

  16. It would seem that virtual drive tools like Dameon Tools and Alcohol 120% install additional software that is disrupting the emulator's ability to read from real CD drives! I came to this conclution after reading topics on a rom/ISO sharing site about how Tomb Raider was not working properly after it was burned (some mentioned problems running it on a real PSX but I don't have access to one right now so I was unable to test this).

When I first found out that pSX had a new verion (1.8) and read that they fixed it to be able to read audio tracks I decided to test it out using my original copy of the greatest hits verion of Tomb Raider. It indeed was now playing the audio tracks that had not played in the previous version of the emulator. At this time however I had not installed any virtual drive software onto the computer. I then decided to get Dameon Tools so I could use the ISOs that I was downloading to play them in the emulators that I had. They worked as well as you can expect a PSX game to work in an emulator but of course this was using the virtual drives to run the images in the emulators. After reading the posts (as mentioned above) I decided to see if I could come up with a solution to the problem. I had just so happend to have downloaded the very ISO that these people were complaining about (it was the original non-greatest hits version that had been hoping for). As they said in their posts, the image woked flawlessley as expected but when burned and run from a CD all sorts of problems suddenly became obvious.

The first thing I noticed was that there were all kinds of weird messages showing up in the debug window on pSX that did not show when running from the image. Then there was the fact that the FMVs were very skippy (for the most part is was the drives as I have tried it on a different computer and the FMVs play perfectly for some reason). I decided to skip these and see the other problem, the audio tracks. As they said the main menu's audio track was not playing at all. Then the third issue, freezing when starting the game. I decided to wait for the demo to start and sure enough the menu ring rolled itself up and the screen went black without loading anything.

When I tried to see if the game would play in ePSXe it wouldn't load anything. It just sat at a black screen no matter which CD plugin I used.

Of course after some time I figured that maybe the disc was simply not burned correctly so I decided to once again test my Greatest Hits version of Tomb Raider and sure enough it did the same thing as the burned game! I have now also tried Destruction Derby 2 and Frogger and similar issues are happening with these games as well.

For DD2 the audio tracks will not play and when the game goes to the menu the debug on pSX 1.8 goes crazy, contently display all kinds of error code non-stop. As for Frogger it only displayed the same strange code that the other games did when they started up:

    1: 00000000-000170ec

It displays this message over and over again, filling the debug window. This message is also displayed when starting the other two games from a real CD drive but will not show up when running from an image or virtual drive.

If anyone knows what exactly is being insalled by these virtual drive programs to cause this please let me know and if possible can someone find a way to correct the problem. My guess is that it has to do with that message that makes you restart your computer before it actually installs the program saying something about it not being compatible with kernal debugging software. Whatever that is it is not removed when uninstalling the programs as the problem still persists.

Also to anyone reading this that has not read the board rules yet. DO NOT ask me for the link to the site I mentioned. I did not post it for a reason. Read the board rules and you will understand why.

  17. Hal = the resident Pokemon expert.

Thanks K'dash...I think. I'm just glad I figured out how to do everything that I've posted and have been able to do further research into other tricks such as fixing corrupted save files made by these nasty IPS patches (I still need to see if that really works though).
