  1. There was a chemistry teacher in my high school who was in the papers once. While the teacher and his wife were sleeping, their house was broken into by a man with a pistol. That man wound up unconcious after havign a baseball bat broken over his head and shoulders. That was when everyone at school found out the chemistry teacher was a former green beret.
  2. It actually was a really nice torrent site. It's never unexpected to see a torrent site go down, but this is one that I'll miss more than most.
  3. I've decided to go vegetarian this week, for no particular reason. Kind of an experiment I guess, to see how hard it is time and money-wise, and to see if I feel any different at the end of the week.

  5. Hello and welcome! Venture Bros. came out on DVD today, which makes me happy. I'm ill, which makes me not so happy. I'm hoping there's no such thing as a lethal dose of vitamin C. I'm in mostly art classes so final projects are kicking my butt in preparation for final exams, which will continue the butt-kicking right up till summer vacation. The upside? Summer vacation! That's life in a nutshell for today.
  6. Gryph's right, content is what makes a website interesting. Putting the website before the content is like putting the paper before the words (and/or pictures) in a book. That said, I'd suggest you start with a personal site. Write reviews or talk about titles or aspects of games that interest you. I know people complain about personal sites, but it's really the only reasonable way to get a site started without a lot of content. Eventually you'll hit on a topic or something that you have fun with, then you can re-center the site around that and give it more focus. And another thing, don't try to compete directly with the Big Guys like IGN, Gamespot, and the Planet Network. Game demos seem like a nice thing for a gaming site to have, but people can already get them from any of a number of sites that have huge, expensive, relatively quick, searchable file databases and paid employees to babysit them. You're going to need something original, even if it's just your opinion, to make anyone care.

  8. Dialogue on a lot of the more recent marvel books has been pretty bad. Like they're trying too hard to sound "hip" and "natural." I haven't read much of the Ultimate stuff, sounds like I'll have to check some of it out. The first few issues of The Ultimates wasn't too bad, but haven't they hit the rest on that series like 4 times already?
  9. I still have a small eldar army, unassembled and unpainted in my closet. I really liked painting the little things. I liked the game too, but it requires just WAY too many of the really expensive models to be reasonable. If the minimum army size was about a quarter of what it is, it might be playable.

  11. IMDB does list both "Wolverine" and "Magneto" for 2007, which is kind of cool. But that doesn't mean there won't be more X-men movies eventually. They've been talking about "closure" in the public interviews and stuff, but there sure as hell isn't any closure in this film, just a bunch more really obvious and intentional loose ends. If it does well enough, and they can get the cast together, I'd put money on more.   13. Yeah. So have I. I had plans to see it tonight, but fell ill, short fatigue breathing for the lose. But I already know most of what already what happens in the film <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, a friend saw it and filled me in - he said "you have to go see it, you'll be pissed" and I made him explain. That's when I checked the plot summary just to see which of the hojilion things they might be planning to do next. For all who haven't seen it yet, there's apparently a bit that runs after the credits, so stick around.
  14. I haven't seen it yet, but having read the summary it's kind of interesting that they're cramming several seperate comic book storylines into one movie. I've heard it's pretty good, so I'm interested to see how they did it. Apparently it's also all set up for a sequel, which I'm happy to hear. I'll admit, I'm a nerd and I want comics to come back, damnit.
  15. I've been considering buying it, but most of the reviews said it was pretty bland, too short, and that there wasn't enough variety in the weapons and enemies. If it's fun though, that's what counts, and none of the reviews really covered that. Kind of like the original SiN that way, actually. If people here say it's good, maybe I'll drop my $20 on it.
  16. Titan Quest demo. Uhh.. It's Diablo. But like, with Greek people. It wasn't bad.
  17. Hitman: Blood Money demo. The demo feels very much like a tutorial level, so I can only hope that the linear gameplay doesn't persist for the rest of the game. Other than that, it controls about the same as Hitman 2 (maybe a little better), but they completely and utterly lost the feel of the original Hitman and its first sequel. Hitman was never about throwing as much R-rated content in your face as possible, and it's clear that this was a major goal for the people on Blood Money (and, to be fair, on Contracts). Street thugs and their bikini-clad whores are too small for Agent 47. Murdering groveling small-time businessmen over personal vendettas, while they beg on their knees for mercy, is not exactly his style. And what the hell happened to the "Silent Assassin" whose goal it was to kill only the mark? The very trailer shows at least one room littered with bloody bodies that it attributes to the hitman, and the demo has you "clearing rooms" on more than one occasion. All I'm saying is, if they wanted another Grand Theft Auto wannabe they should have just made one. Damn you Eidos, leave my penitent angel of death alone.
  18. Looks like it might be silly, but I just hope it's better than Daredevil. It'll be nice to see the original chain-weilding hell's angel on the big screen. As a strange aside, I'm glad to see nick cage finally playing a comic book role. I like him as an actor, and I'd always heard he was a huge comic fan. You gotta give credit to anyone who dares to name himself after Power Man.

  22. Most of the companies that have "advanced" have done so via 3D animation, which is cheap and efficient compared to high-res, high-frame-count 2D art. Most of the recent, succesful 2D games, like Capcom's Castlevania series, have largely been handheld titles, which don't call for hi-res graphics. Combine the cost of animation with the relatively small demand for 2D fighters and I can imagine it's hard to justify an entire 40+ character King of Fighters cast worth of art, plus stages. Off the top of my head, Sammy is the only company I can recall that ever bothered with Hi-Res 2D sprites, and they have basically 1 game's worth of it to speak of, and with a very niche audience. I definately want SNK (and Capcom, for that matter) to try their hand at hi-res 2D graphics. I also agree that eventually they're going to have to, because you're right, their audience will probably get smaller if they don't. But I think it's going to be a very careful balancing act for them. They're going to have to find just the right moment when the demographic is large and they have the funds to risk dumping on such an ambitious project. It would not surprise me if SNK was trying to cultivate such a moment with their recent titles and home ports, but we'll just have to wait and see.
  23. I didn't mean to imply that they should be Live Arcade games, I just used the Live Arcade games as an example that I don't think MS has any bias against 2D games. But they do insist on 720p... even all the Live Arcade games are 720p. So it seems to me that the blame for the games not coming to the 360 lies completely on SNK and their laziness. Both them and Capcom love to recycle all their old artwork and make "new" games. Now here we have SNK basically saying, "Meh... we don't feel like making our games 720p, so we'll just release them only for the Wii". Works out for the Wii, but screws all their fans that own 360s. At least Capcom isn't quite as lazy. At least they are going to be releasing SFII as a Live Arcade game with 720p. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wouldn't jump to conclusions so quickly. First off, the graphical quality standards (which include the difference between 2d and 3d) for the 360 are almost definately different for Live Arcade games vs. retail store games. It's probably harder to pass a 2D game as a retail release, even if it's 720p. Secondly, even if 720p is the only thing holding them back, I'd hardly call it "laziness" on SNK's part. Nevermind that it's MS that demands 720p, converting or completely redoing graphics, especially 2D sprites, for 720p requires a lot of labor that isn't free. SNK, or any company, has to decide which titles on what platforms to allocate their limited resources to. If it would take just 2 developers to port assets to 720p, SNK has to decide whether or not it's worth taking those 2 developers off of a game that's nearing completion for release on another system, or budgetting another 2 employees. What you're calling "laziness" was probably pretty well thought out. They know more about their profit potential and their system-specific demographics than we do.
