  1. LOL... I know I'm a n00b. I think I've said so on this and the other thread about 10 times at least. Not sure where the hiding part is coming from. And you're a prick know it all who likes to keep the how-tos to him self so he has an endless supply of asskissers on hand. I know the type, I've worked with them before. The people who were so afraid to teach anyone else anything they knew because they knew they had no personality whatsoever and that if the more popular guys knew what he knew and he lost that little edge he had, well.... he just knew he'd find his ass out on the street looking for another job.

Oh god... I just got a picture of you in my head at work. And you talk as stoopid as you sound when you try to write.

But since you're begging, I guess you have permission to release the build though BP. Just don't put it anywhere around me.

Seriously dude... go tell your mom you love her. She's really a saint cooking for you every night you while you spend days at a time without showering in that musty basement you call home.

  2. LOL.... Wow... You're right BP. I must be a God. I've held up the release of this for months with my Godlike BP abusing powers.

No. I think you're the one holding up the release yourself BP. Blame me all you want, but at the end of the day when you look in the mirror you know that I'm not there with a gun to your head telling you that you can't release Arcades Plus. It's not my problem or my fault that you're holding it hostage because you don't like me.

At this point, I don't care if it ever gets released. In fact, I hope you don't ever release it to anyone now.

Didja get that BP? I didn't ramble too much there for you did I?

  3. Pretty sad BP. I'll type about whatever I want to regardless of what you have to say. And I'll continue asking you whatever questions I want to whenever I want to. It's not as if you've ever answered one of them at any time anyhow. So I choose to excercise my right to futility.

I messaged you two days about helping you this week when I was off and you completely ignored me so I started doing my own thing. I know you were online because you were on and off this forum all day those two days when I came by to see if anything new was up. I was willing to work with you twice, but the truth is you're a self righteous twat and the only reason anyone in here likes you at all is because you do for them what they're too lazy to do for themselves.

Your skills are nothing to brag about, and yeah, it's taking me a while to learn this without any help from d-bags like you, but you offer nothing that any one of these people on this board wouldn't have any problems doing themselves if they shook the sand out of their cooter and taught themselves how to do it.

BTW... I did a search, and there is no "cat" files, so I don't know what the hell you think you're seeing. Probably trying to send me on a wild goose chase like when you supplied only part of the source and I had to piecemeal the rest from other sources. You're a real piece of work. You're like a cop that abuses his power. Have fun on your basement throne. Hopefully your parents don't kick you out now that the economy is going down the tubes.

  4. I vote A

Fairplay to resurectionx, I respect what your trying to do. But I think it would take years of work for you to get near BPs level. I am a qualified software developer and would not dream of jumping in to such a big project. I am not saying you should give up, I think its great to see activity in this scene, but I am just looking forward to BPs new release, and then I think that mame on xbox will be as good as it could get.

Your A vote is the only one worth commenting on, since it was well written and didn't come from one of BP's mindless butt kissers.

BP's level is not that much further from where I am. I've only been doing this for about 2 weeks since I got my debug box up and I've already remapped control on a Williams game called Inferno that I've wanted fixed since the beginning (One of the reasons that me and BP stopped working with each other early on). He's not a magical wizard coder. By his own admission several times, he's nowhere near where XPort and some of the greats were. He happens to know some things that I've been able to figure out for myself, and quite a few more that I have yet to, but I will, figure out. The end result may have he and I using different methods to get there, but he doesn't have a whole lot on me at this point.

It's basically a bunch of parlor tricks what he's doing with the emu. Parlor tricks that were necessary, such as remapping Ikari Warriors, but not a whole lot that I haven't figured out at this point. Bottom line is, you me or BP would never have been able to code this thing from scratch, but now that it's available, anybody who wants to put a little effort into it can take it apart, investigate it, and change it the way they see fit. I don't know much about C++ except for what I learned in Junior College for a semester almost 10 years ago, but you can see patterns in the code even if you're just a little computer savvy.

My only problem now is manipulating the GUI. Ever since I got the source, I haven't been able to get it to sort by category (and that was long before I messed with anything). I've mentioned this to BP about 5 times on this thread, and though he gives me a very lengthy reason that I'm never going to figure it out on my own, he's never told me what files control it or thrown me a bone about where I could start looking. The "source" I was given was incomplete and I've had to pull stuff from MAMEox 1.1 and the previous build of Arcades to even get it to work from the start. He didn't tell me to do that. I had to figure that out too.

I don't see what the big deal is for BP to tell me the files that effect the GUI development. I don't need a teacher if I know where to do the research. Just tell me what files are important and their basic function and I can go wild from there. He's always talking about how much time he's wasting here teaching me when in reality he's spending time on here and the other threads with no other purpose than to argue with me or harass me. In half the time it's taken for him to post any one of his numerous replys telling me how annoying or needy or n00bish or incapable I am, he could have told me what files I need to be concerned about outside the source.

In the example above, he mentions "cat.h" "cat.cpp" and "cat.xml" as three of the files that effect how the GUI works. Those three files don't exist. Not in the source and not in the final build. I would like to know what files he meant when he said that, since I do know the location of the other files he mentioned in that post.

Then I got a bunch of idiots chiming in and BP stopped answering my questions. (No offence to you, since I'm not refering to you).

The one thing that he has taught me since the beginning is that you can edit filenames in a hex editor. I've already figured out how to do that in the source on my own, so when it comes down to it, BP hasn't taught me anything, regardless of anyone's claims.

    Haha gavin19...

    QUOTE(ressurectionx @ Mar 26 2008, 03:09 PM)

It's a shame that somebody as egotistical as BP doesn't want to share what he knows.

That's not my quote man. Don't get me in trouble. I like how you swapped in egotistical for knowledgable there though.

I vote B. At least someone is trying to pick up the slack.

The only thing is, how much is there really left to accomplish with the Xbox? Arcades etc are tweaks of already existing projects, fine-tuning, small improvements. Most emulators are near-perfection as far as I know; maybe there's some that have slipped through the net? I guess it can't do any harm to learn the ropes.

    Good luck anyway sir.

Yeah... I would like to see a perfect MAME emu, improvements to PSX and N64, and also some ports for PC games to the computer when and if source becomes availabe. Other than that, it's pretty much done. Was looking forward to a BBC Micro emulator that somebody said they were going to release about 4 months ago before they just disappeared. I don't think anyone in this thread would want to play that one though since they're too good for old games.

Thanks for the nod. It's a tough crowd in here if you're not BP.

  5. Well too bad. You did. And I would have figured it out anyways, if my determination here is any indication.

I've been into emus on the PC since about 10 years ago. Only now coding because there isn't anyone around who is going to make a MAME emu with everything it has to offer. There is no reason to exclude anything with the filter capabilities period. If I have to learn it by myself, I will then. It's a shame that somebody as knowledgeable as BP doesn't want to share what he knows.

The scene is almost dead and there will be no new people as they move on to their PS3s and XBox 360s.

  6. Who's going to continue it then?

Once BP's gone, that's pretty much it. I don't see you coding anything.

And also to you oldskool, if you notice, I share everything I find with people and I'm always there to help them when I can answer their questions, time and time again.

BP has stated many times when I ask him for help that he could fix it in 2 seconds, but he doesn't share that knowledge with anyone.

  7. well i voteA.not a tough one to call. :thumbsup1:

That's pretty selfish of you fumanchu. The scene will die in a year or two with the last batch of coders because they didn't hand any of their secrets down. If you're happy with unfinished projects like Surreal64 then I can't blame you for voting A. If you'd ever like to see more stuff getting done though, I would think it be in your best interest to see people who are actually getting some coding done learn the tricks. People who actually post about actually fixing problems they have with XBox and not people who whine about problems they have or only come around to say anything when a coder releases a new build.

BP hasn't spent any time helping me here. He knows it. He may have spent time here today, sure, but he hasn't helped me out. I've figured this all out for myself.

It would be nice to have some of the missing pieces filled in though. It's not as if I'm a bumbling retard n00b that can't figure stuff out. I've already exceeded BP's expectations.

  8. class files are unmatched plus need to be assigned to skin.ini skin H and Cpp and to cat H and CPP files

then skin.ini and cat.xml must match the calls

I don't know what class files are, but I'll figure that out. At least I have some names to go by.

I know what the skin.ini file is and where it's located.

I've found the skin.h and skin.cpp files and will check them out later.

But I can't find cat.h or cat.cpp.... a search for "cat" in the source only gives mcatadv.c and mcatadv.obj, which are the drivers for Magical Cat Adventures. The only xml file I find is romstatus.xml.

so I'm not sure what these "cat" files and the cat.xml file you speak of are.

  9. Because I've figured out this much at this point. I'm not asking you to fix anything for me. I'm asking you to tell me which files are being effected. I believe at this point I've proven that I'm not an idiot and I can figure a lot out on my own. Throw me a bone here. Which file(s) do I have to edit to change options in the GUI. If I know which files, I can figure the rest out on my own.

If it would take 2 seconds for you to fix, it couldn't take you long to just tell me where to go to fix it.

EDIT: I don't see how you've wasted any time here today. I've figured it out all on my own up to this point and you haven't answered any one of my questions except to tell me when I've done something right.

  10. the skin wont work with the build your running sorry lots will be messed up id say.....maybe not id I would bet it probably is. Sort by cat is gone because the files arent synced

Sort by category had not worked since I first tried this source. It was the very first thing that I checked. So it didn't not-work because of anything that I did.

Maybe the source that you gave me was already changed enough that the sort by genre function doesn't work.

I don't understand why it wouldn't work though. The Category is derived from the catver, so no matter what changes I do to the source, I should be able to sort by the results from the catver.

Any ideas on how I can get it working on mine again? I'm assuming that it's something I have to change in the skin.ini.

  11. no other issues at all. Just out of sync with arcades

    Good to know. Thanks BP.

I've pretty much solved my problems so far. I've figured out how to remap most games. And I've figured out how to edit the game title in the GUI on a source level.

Still having a huge problem here though. I can't seem to get the sort by Type/Genre to work in the GUI. For some reason the only options open to me are "Name", "Year", "ROM Status", "Manufacturer", "Parent ROM". Right now I am using your last skin for Arcades, but I plan to change the skin if I make a release of my own someday.

Any idea how I could fix this BP? It's probably a datafile that I'm missing. Maybe my catver is messed up?

  12. it wont work with arcades...but will do with any build you make no worries...

I would appreciate it if you told me why. I understand that it won't work with Arcades, but I want to know what datfiles I am effecting by making changes like this. What are the repercussions other than not being in sync with Arcades?

  13. you are fine there... the way you are doing things are correct it will of course unsync the builds but this is the correct way to do things

Yeah BP. I understand that the ".c" file drivers we have will be different, because there is no way we will be making all of the same changes, but does this effect how the build interracts with any of the dat files? I don't see how it could. If it does, could you tell me how?

  14. the dats

    Care to elaborate?

Seriously BP. Just tell me which dats are effected by remapping controls in the game driver file.

I'll figure it out from there.

2nd question: Which dat or source file controls which version of the rom you're using? I want to switch a bunch of them to work with the US rom instead of the world rom.

    Thanks,

    ~Rx

  15. Hey BP. Looks like we haven't been able to meet on MSN this weekend. I'm going back to work tomorrow night. I was hoping I could get something done before my weekend is over.

If I wanted to remap Inferno, which I do, how would I go about mapping it so the right control pad fires when I point the gun direction?

The way that it's set up now is the Left Joystick controls movement, the Right Joystick controls gun direction and you have to press "A" to fire. It's too hard to do all that, and I'd like to get it so that when you're pressing the gun direction it fires at the same time.

    Is that possible?

I'd like to do this myself as a lesson on how to do this if you could show me how.

    Thanks,

    ~Rx

Here's the input port settings. I think I need to change these somehow, but I'm not sure. Is this what I need to alter to remap?

    INPUT_PORTS_START( inferno )

    PORT_START /* IN0 (muxed with IN3) */

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKLEFT_UP )

    PORT_BIT( 0x02, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKLEFT_LEFT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x04, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKLEFT_RIGHT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x08, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKLEFT_DOWN )

    PORT_BIT( 0x10, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_UP )

    PORT_BIT( 0x20, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_LEFT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x40, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_RIGHT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x80, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_DOWN )

    PORT_START /* IN1 */

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_BUTTON1 )

    PORT_BIT( 0x02, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER2 | IPT_BUTTON1 )

    PORT_BIT( 0x3C, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_UNUSED )

    PORT_BIT( 0x40, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_START1 )

    PORT_BIT( 0x80, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_START2 )

    PORT_START /* IN2 */

    PORT_BITX(0x01, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, 0, "Auto Up", KEYCODE_F1, IP_JOY_NONE )

    PORT_BITX(0x02, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, 0, "Advance", KEYCODE_F2, IP_JOY_NONE )

    PORT_BITX(0x04, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, 0, "High Score Reset", KEYCODE_7, IP_JOY_NONE )

    PORT_BIT( 0x08, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_COIN1 )

    PORT_BIT( 0x10, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_COIN2 )

    PORT_BIT( 0x20, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_SERVICE1 )

    PORT_BIT( 0x40, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_TILT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x80, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_UNUSED )

    PORT_START /* IN3 (muxed with IN0) */

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER2 | IPT_JOYSTICKLEFT_UP )

    PORT_BIT( 0x02, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER2 | IPT_JOYSTICKLEFT_LEFT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x04, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER2 | IPT_JOYSTICKLEFT_RIGHT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x08, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER2 | IPT_JOYSTICKLEFT_DOWN )

    PORT_BIT( 0x10, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER2 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_UP )

    PORT_BIT( 0x20, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER2 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_LEFT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x40, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER2 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_RIGHT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x80, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER2 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_DOWN )

    INPUT_PORTS_END

EDITED TO ADD: Okay BP... nevermind. I know that's how you do it because I was able to successfully switch the fire and jump buttons on Wardner (Just as a test, I like how you had it mapped already) and I was able to make it so the right joystick controls the fireing as well as the direction in Inferno.

This is exciting as hell. Finally some real progress. :(

    Here's what I did:

Originally, part of the code looked like this:

    PORT_START /* IN1 */

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_BUTTON1 )

    PORT_BIT( 0x02, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER2 | IPT_BUTTON1 )

    PORT_BIT( 0x3C, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_UNUSED )

    PORT_BIT( 0x40, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_START1 )

    PORT_BIT( 0x80, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_START2 )

I changed it to look like this:

    PORT_START /* IN1 */

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_UP )

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_LEFT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_RIGHT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_DOWN )

    PORT_BIT( 0x02, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER2 | IPT_BUTTON1 )

    PORT_BIT( 0x3C, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_UNUSED )

    PORT_BIT( 0x40, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_START1 )

    PORT_BIT( 0x80, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPT_START2 )

This changed it so that the line:

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_BUTTON1 )

(which mapped fireing to the "A" button)

It was replaced with the following 4 lines:

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_UP )

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_LEFT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_RIGHT )

    PORT_BIT( 0x01, IP_ACTIVE_HIGH, IPF_PLAYER1 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_DOWN )

Now when I change direction in game it also fires that way if I hold the joystick down.

What I take from this also is that "IPT_BUTTON1" is the A-Button in mapping.

If I wanted to change JOYSTICKRIGHT_UP so that it was the up button on the D-Pad, what would I change it to?

  16. Hey BP. Looks like we haven't been able to meet on MSN this weekend. I'm going back to work tomorrow night. I was hoping I could get something done before my weekend is over.

If I wanted to remap Inferno, which I do, how would I go about mapping it so the right control pad fires when I point the gun direction?

    PORT_BIT( 0x80, IP_ACTIVE_LOW, IPF_PLAYER2 | IPT_JOYSTICKRIGHT_DOWN )

  17. tell me if i'm mistaken but i thought this was a new build and because of it's size we were going to just delete the old one and install this one then BP would do patches for this one.

BP, i sent you a pm on the matter of releasing this any way you want it done, if i can be of any help just hit me up. i have a 100mbit server so speed is of no concern plus i could give you ftp access to get it to me.

    You're half right.

Yes, It would be a whole new download.

No, your old version of Arcades is not useless to you when the new build comes out. It's true that you could throw out all the roms and start from scratch. But you could also use torrentzip on your existing romset folder (most of the roms will still be the same, but even ones which may be slightly different will likely still have useable parts to them) and then put them in the folder you use the bittorrent client to download to. You will then be able to start the torrent with I would guess between 80 & 90 percent of the torrent already downloaded.

If you purge the stuff that romcenter says isn't the same before downloading, you will have the complete set much earlier this way with no garbage in it much quicker than starting from scratch.

Of course, if you didn't want to go through all of that work, you always have the option of taking the long way to grab the whole torrent from scratch too.

  18. if i remember didnt lordpro release the last biuld on megaupload,i dont use torrents myself,so im hoping this gets relesed on an upload site

I know the patch was put on megaupload. If the original was too, I'm not aware of it. The problem is that with an upload site, you'll have to download the whole thing over again, however many gigs. If you use the datfile for the new release in Romcenter and then drag and drop a file called torrentzip over your roms folder, it will match every good part you have to the torrent and you'll probably have 80 percent of the torrent complete from the start. Then you can move the non-matching parts to another folder to separate them. It's the best way in terms of bandwith and speed to get everyone in sync with the new build.

Plus a file that big in Megaupload would be about 50 or so links I would think. If somebody else would like to release it there, that's cool, but that would be a ton more work for me and everyone would have to grab the entire thing from scratch.

  19. I could release a build BP. You'd just have to tell me how you want it packaged and someone would have to let me know the best way to get the information out there for those who want it. I don't have a super fast connection (about 25k upload max), but with torrentzipping, people who have Arcades already won't have to download stuff they've already acquired. They would just have to run the torrentzipped datfile of the build (Which I would supply as an separate and easily downloadable file within the torrent) on their roms in romcenter before joining the torrent. It's easy stuff and if they take the time to do that one step it could save them a week of downloading, and it will make other seeders pretty quick.

    Let me know,

  20. i allready know why you have this issue.... just go back to full arcades and remove the debug stuff. I would say I wouldnt get you to help e with the source as you are far off working that out i would say

also MSN is the best way to do this

and I need to know if you are going to reupload this. As arcades plus could be released really soon (will need a full disc again as so many changes its impossible to patch really). A patch can follow in a week or 2 for extra games... I have locked down arcades roms for me so the patches will be small and GUI stuff only.

    Hello BP,

So you're saying that when I do further work on this, I should not bother with the debugging part of it and focus only on tasks outside of the source?

If that's the case, I will just put the last public build of Arcades on my XBox after removing everything first.

Yes, I can upload this on several sites when it is all complete and seed it at least until we get a few seeders. I don't have access to a server or anything, so that is the only way I could host something so large when it is complete. (My apologies to the mods ahead of time if even mentioning this is against the rules. I figure if I'm not naming sites than I'm not breaking rules. Would love to know if I'm wrong though)

I won't ask you about what you want me to do to help on here then because I need more information about what I would need to do to make a patch from you and you would rather do that on MSN. I don't have access to MSN while I'm at work, so this is my only option at the moment. I will be online at home on Sunday night sometime Central Standard Time so we can speak on MSN then. There is a small possiblilty that I won't be working overtime tomorrow night so I may even be on sometime Saturday night as well if you're on.

Looking forward to working with you,

    ~Rx

  21. Well... I still can't figure out why I can't sort by genre, but I haven't really looked deep into it yet since yesterday. I won't have time until Sunday. I have a few ideas why though....

I forgot about the TDATA and UDATA folders and how they are necessary to add for Arcades to work right. I also wasn't thinking when I was messing around with your last public build of Arcades and also MAMEox 1.1 from XBMC and how that would effect the TDATA and UDATA folders. So part of my problem now, I'm sure, is that I've really garbled those folders up with 3 different versions of arcades/mameox running. In fact, when I load up the debug version of arcades at this moment, it has the MAMEox 1.1 GUI lol...... I really messed that up. At least I know why it's messed up now though. If I'm going to compare old builds in the future to the debug, I will have to do it on my other XBox (unless you know of a work around for this).

When I have time on Sunday, I'm going to remove everything for Arcades from my XBox and then resend the build to the XBox and add all of the files from your latest build of Arcades. It won't have any of the new fixes you've done in the last month or two, but maybe I can at least use all of that to figure out why I'm having the problems that I'm having.
