  1. Midway:

We’re sad to report that employees of Midway Games of Chicago, IL were given more than turkey this Thanksgiving.

While most were most likely focusing on stuffing their stomachs with Thanksgiving deliciousness, or perhaps camping out for Black Friday deals, others were working hard to offload controlling shares of the company for next to nothing. This news comes immediately after the launch of their latest Mortal Kombat product, bringing to question if the sales of Mortal Kombat vs DC has failed to live up to expectations.

Ultimately, Midway Games was exchanged for mere chump change by media tycoon Sumner Redstone. Just in time for the start of the holiday season, Redstone sold off his controlling shares for a mere $100,000.00 USD to Mark Thomas of Acquisition Holdings Subsidiary, LLC. Considering that Midway Games has a history of well over twenty years behind it as a key player in the world of game development and publishing, the price is initially shocking to say the least. Once one digs a bit further however, it becomes clear that the acquisition package also comes with heaps of debt.

The total debt has been reported to be over $150 million in outstanding loans, on top of a $70 million loan which was granted by National Amusements.

Beyond debt, with a stock value at well under a dollar per share, Midway facing delisting by the NYSE. To make matters worse, previous quarterly and annual statements have revealed that net income has been in the red, even despite a more solid product lineup in 2007 and 2008. It is entirely possible that Thomas is simply hoping to cash in on the value of the number of IPs which Midway has in its portfolio, instead of coming on to help the company get back on its feet. Among the more recognizable intellectual properties are Mortal Kombat, NFL Blitz, NBA Jam, Smash TV, Rampage, San Fransisco Rush, Galaga, Spy Hunter, and Joust.

The swap involved a trade of over 80.3 million shares at $0.0012 per share, far less than the value of each share at prices seen in recent weeks. The transaction is being handled by the New York based Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel law firm, although thus far they have released very few details of the transaction itself beyond statements on Thomas’ expected role in the company. All that we know thus far is that Mark Thomas is intending to be as hands off as possible in management and executive affairs once company control has officially switched hands.

Time will tell if Thomas has any tricks up his sleeve to help reform and revive Midway, however the details on his desire to remain hands-off leaves us with more concern than hope. With EA Chicago already out for the count, Midway Games remains as one of the few remaining Chicago based developers, and publishers of games. With over 800 employees relying on Midway Games to keep food on the table, we are really wishing for the best.

We will of course keep you up to date as we watch the future of Midway unfold, so stay tuned.

Looks like Midway's screwed after all.

Lara Croft may have a new boss within the next several months. Struggling British game publisher Eidos could be looking at takeover bids from both Square Enix and Warner Bros.

Once considered an elite who couldn’t be bested when it came to action-adventure titles, London-based publisher/developer Eidos Interactive may be taking several bids from companies interested in an acquisition. While Electronic Arts and Ubisoft have expressed interest in the past, the two front runners appear to be Square Enix and Warner Bros.

Square Enix, whose success derives primarily from RPGs like the Final Fantasy series, is desperately seeking western talent in order to expand, diversify, and hopefully draw a larger crowd in the American and European markets. SE’s Global President Yoichi Wada recently visited IO Studios in Denmark, the Eidos-owned developer behind the popular Hitman series. After his visit, Wada returned to London to further SE’s negotiations with the house that Lara built.

While Square Enix is not to be taken lightly, its late entry into this acquisition foray may put it at a disadvantage. Many are already predicting that Warner Bros. will be the victor because the global entertainment conglomerate already has a 20 percent stake in the London publisher. Back in April, Warner Bros. gave Eidos’ parent company SCi Entertainment GBP $60 million (USD $87.8 million) to keep it from going under. According to mcvuk.com, Warner Bros. Would have to spend another GBP $20 million for a controlling stake in the firm, and thus authority over Eidos.

In the event that Warner does emerge as the victor, Square Enix could attempt to buy specific components/assets of Eidos, like IO Studios. Also, if Square Enix fails to acquire Eidos, they would certainly be on the hunt for another Western developer. The attempt to appeal to American and European markets is being driven by John Yamamoto, CEO of Square Enix North America.

While Eidos has seen its stock drop around 90 percent over the last year, its latest offering, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Underworld, has been received well by critics and sits on most top 10 sales charts over in Europe.

TRU is selling well, but the problem is Edios only has ONE franchise keeping them floating. What happened to Legacy of Kain? What happened too... all... there other stuff... Anyways, I hope Warner gets them (very likely as their the ones who've been keeping Edios alive) so they can get some more IPs rolling out into other media. Another TR movie? Sure, do it, Joile will do it. (check out the latest TR game anyways, it's awesome).

  3. After reading the thread, you did some things very poorly. Nearly forcing ram to fit in slots? Take it slow and steady. It'll fit, don't force it. Or you placed them the wrong way, which I doubt.

Secondly, do what Cinder said. Triple check if your getting the right ampage into your video card. It maybe be the same card on a technicality, but you never know what changes were made to the board itself.

  4. Do you even know what pubic hair looks like? No wait, rephrase. Have you even seen pubic hair grow on ya?

Please, you are terrible at posting counter retorts, so just do us all a favor and stop posting anything at all on this board. I'm surprised you've survived this long, so go on already, leave. Nobody wants your garbage whimsical non-sense anymore and it's gotten stale for me to admit it.

Get off my internet you drunken, delusional halfwit of a public servant.

  5. You're not a fanboy so give it up.

Right. You just own it because it says "Fallout" on the cover, same reason I own it. For the name on the cover, everything else is secondary (with the exception of the Bobble head, that thing is AWESOME). Just happy that it even has a "3" in the title. Have you even played Tactics? Or even the abysmal Brotherhood of Steel game? Do you even bother to even read? It's terrible writing plain and simple. Now shut up and play your goddamn game and let everyone else talk.

  6. Get the god damn game and don't listen to these morons complaining about "Bethesda used a wrong shade of brown thus making this game utterly useless" kinda craptacular arguements.

I swear to god some of y'all would complain about one hair strand on a character model if given the opportunity.

I enjoy the game, but the writing is terrible, I like how the world is visually represented, now if they writing was up to par as the originals, then we got our selves a winner. It's the most common complaint amongest the fanboys who give FO3 a chance. We're OK that the game isn't turn based, OK that we can kill kids, OK that it's FPSRPG. But we can't get over how terrible the writing is.

Post something constructive for a change and not just these "NO U" posts.

  8. 1) The leveling isn't the same as Oblivion in that you can't artificially level up your skills to become some omnipotent superhuman, well as far as I can tell so far. You need to level up to be able to add skill points, ie you can't repair like 20 weapons and improve your 'Repair' skill that way. You are also limited to level 20, whereas in Oblivion you could have got to around 50 or so.
There isn't level scaling, which is why the level 20 limit works. There are several areas in the game where there are high level enemies, but once you get to level 15+, the game is esscentially in easy mode.
    3) The play area is large but a hell of a lot of it is burned out buildings and ruins, and a lot of it is blocked off by large structures and conveniently placed piles of rubble, which is annoying.
The world is actually smaller then Oblivion's, but is filled with more landscape (does this sentence even make sense?)
    4) During the game, more so early on, you can be picked off from a safe distance a lot by Raiders and the like, when you are out exploring. Iit can be hard to tell where the shots are coming from, by which time you have already lost a fair bit of energy. Despite all the rubble and burnt out cars there isn't very much cover out in the open to exploit either. This wouldn't be so bad only your own character's shooting accuracy at distance is abysmal, until you get up a lot of levels. In effect, you have to charge down targets until you get within a decent range to make shots count, again taking damage all the while. This is ok against 1 or 2 opponents, but a whole group is just slaughter.
Feels like Fallout 1 and 2! Which is "SCREWED!"
    5) Travelling to a place must be done on foot initially, then it can be fast travelled to. This wasn't so bad in Oblivion where you could mount your trusty steed and gallop off to the next town, in F3 it can be monotonous and treacherous at times.
    Refer to answer #3.
    7) A lot fewer NPCs that you can interact with compared to Oblivion, which had around 1500 IIRC. I don't know exactly how many F3 has, but it is noticeably less.
Yes, but about 1400 of those were useless, random, "We just walk around and don't really do anything" NPCs.
:( The main story is short, at least going by the multitude of reviews. This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the aforementioned fault of having the game totally end when you complete it. Also I have noticed that large chunks of the story can be skipped by accidentally stumbling upon various places in-game. This is apparently in line with the previous Fallout games, but seems to be niggling a lot of people who were expecting to have to complete Quests A, B and C before being allowed near Quest D.
Pretty much yeah, but Bethesda does it terribly job at this and takes a short cut by making it seem you know what the hell parts B and C were to get to D when you don't know what happened at all instead of explaining what B and C were.
  9. Any fighting game with Superman in it is quite stupid. Who the hell would dare fight Superman and think they could win. Superman should be left out.

In conjunction with other comic-based VS games, Onslaught can be beaten _twice_ by the likes of Chun-Li single-handedly (if not with another partner) where in fact in the comics, it took a myriad of Marvel heroes (some of them dying in the process) in order to destroy Onslaught.

Naturally, those uber-godlike feats of heroes/villains have to be toned down in terms of balancing out, to the point that someone can rip off Superman's spine even without the advantage of using kryptonite.

Please, everyone knows Magic > Superman. Zatanna can take him to school with her magicks if they were Omega level.

  10. On my second run right now. If you enjoyed Oblivion, you'll enjoy Fallout 3 and it's brand of (Bethesda) humor. But if you enjoyed Fallout 1 & 2, prepare to be disappointed because it doesn't keep the same dark sense of humor and writing as the previous games and we're stuck with a mostly lifeless, under achieved world that had a lot of potential but fell short. The only town with any sort of character of it's own is Megaton, the first town in the game.

As such, there are no shades of gray in the game. There's pure good, sugar coated anti-hero and dick. No actual evil path in the game. No child killer reputation. Sure you get bad karma, but it doesn't really mean crap because you can still be an avenger and kill every evil bastard, then go back to killing innocents.

    The game also suffers from several things that Oblivion suffered from, such as a majority of skills and perks being utterly and completely useless, emotionless animations and models and once again, we have a gimped version of Radiant AI. Laziness in coding pathways shows too, as some quest NPCs seemlessly die randomly because of waypoint errors. Also, import NPCs still exist. So if you want to go on a killing spree, they'll come back to life and hunt you down. Thankfully it can be turned off with;

    bForceReloadOnEssentialCharacterDeath=0

    bEssentialTakeNoDamage=0

But killing children is still impossible.

Bethesda released it in good spirit, but cannot shake the nagging nerve that the game is really an MMORPG but without the MMO applied. You do quests and level and beat the game. There is no New Game+ or a way to continue any left over quests either after you beat the game. You have to do it all before doing the main quest. It's very possible to completely skip most of the side quests and just grind it out to level 15 and beat the game in 8 hours.

VATS is terribly fun though, so points to that. It's a fighting aid (basically from medium to short range "I-Win mode") and not a gameplay mechanic to make it seem like it's turn based.

yes its like oblivion but the world of fallout is really the only reason Im buying this game. the world is so...flocked up and you dont know who you can trust. the atmosphere for this gamke is just too good. I would say goto your local gamestop and pick it up used. if you dont like it you can take it back within 7 days. or you can goto blockbuster ^^

    but do play this game!

Nope, it isn't. The world, as visually impressive as it is, is mostly filled with boring, unmemorable and emotionless characters.

I am OK with the fact it's an FPSRPG, I'm OK with the fact you can't kill kids (there are morals about that), I'm OK with the fact the AI is gimped and that it game is really just Oblivion with guns, I'm NOT OK with them adding their brand of witless, uninspiring and for intent and purpose, "Bethesda" humor. It's terrible writing.

The game, as a whole, is enjoyable, but if your coming in and hoping that it's a successor to Fallout 1 and 2, you'll end up being several disappointed. You'd think with it's freeform sandbox gameplay it would hold true to the original Fallouts, but terrible writing hold it all back. Just plain laziness on Bethesda's part to make a complete game with all the bells and whistles of the originals. I do give props to the Inon Zur, most of the music is good. We just need the god damn SDK to come out so people like me can completely flock up the world.

  11. can they friggin make a patch after this game out where they allow all M rating stuff?

THAT would be the only reason why i would buy it....

SO once i heard the gore reduction, im afraid i lost all faith in it.

If it came out on PC, probably. Otherwise no, all DLContent must be akin to game's original rating.
Can someone please explain to me why Midway still insists on using the same crappy gamplay engine? I mean it still looks as stiff, clunky, horribly animated as ever. Have they not learned from there past mistakes?

I HAD high hopes for this game. The more I see vids of it in action the more I hate it.

They aren't using the same engine. They licensed U3's engine and made significant adjustments to make it into a fighting game engine.
