  1. 10-15% increase with a 200% cost increase.......I don't get it one bit.

It costs me nothing, I already have 2 matched drives and anything I would be storing on them would be easily recoverable avi/mp3. I wouldn't go out and buy another drive just for the sake of RAID0 though.

  2. I don't get using RAID in a home environment, especially RAID 0. If any disk in the array fails in RAID 0, you lose ALL your data. Not worth the meager performance increase it provides.

Then there's using it to provide redundancy, who in a home environment can actually claim to have enough sensitive data that requires wasting money on two drives for identical data? Almost nobody.

RAID is such a waste for home use.

I know the risks involved but I wouldn't store anything on the drives that I couldn't easy get back. I noticed 10-15% performance increase with RAID0, so the benefits outweigh the negatives for me.

  3. I have a 500GB and two 160GB drives. I think I'm going to RAID0 the two 160GB drives for the extra speed boost like I had before. I miss that. I have an external 500GB Seagate for dumping my HD stuff onto to watch on my 360 too, it's really handy.

I see a lot of people with 1 big drive instead of 2/3 smaller ones. They're missing out on double the speed when it comes to archive extraction, file conversion etc etc. I get around 50-60MB/s when unrarring from one drive to another, while only typically 25-30MB/s using the same drive. Not to mention converting an avi or whatever to DVD literally takes half the time when the task is shared between two drives.

  4. this is weird, it's been happening to me all day. My torrents will randomly stop and I get an error message saying something to the effect of "files in use by another program"

this only happened on downloading torrents not seeding torrents.

    Windows 7

    utorrent 1.8.1

I looked around in the task manager for what could be accessing the files but didn't see anything.

I also restarted my PC, restarted Utorrent, removed and re downloaded the torrent.

    any other suggestions?

I had this a few times before in the past but IIRC it was down to some new AV I was trying and it kept locking the files out for scanning every now and again. It also happened to me repeatedly when I used to use Google desktop, it's indexing of the new files interrupted uTorrent.

Try using Unlocker on the files in question to see what is hooking into them to make them stop. You do need to use it immediately as soon as the torrent stops though or you will likely miss what's causing it. I'm not sure if it'll work on Win7 though. I know it doesn't work on 64bit for sure. Handy little app.

  5. Although I had been gaming on my Spectrum 128k and Master System for years before I got a hold of my SNES, it was SF2 that I spend a silly amount of time playing. Ironically we had just moved house a few months prior to me getting the SNES, so a lot of close friends fell out of touch and I ended up playing mostly solo. I think that's when I started to appreciate single player games a lot more and still do to this day. Really if I think about it I've been playing SF in one form or another ever since - Super, Super Turbo (SNES), Alpha 1/2 (Saturn), Alpha 3, SF3 (DC) and now SF4!

  6. I forgot that I was having a few display driver issues too. Randomly it forgets that my display is powered by my 9600GT and defaults to 'Standard VGA'. This resets the resolution back to 1024x768 and I have to go into Device Manager and 'Scan for New Hardware' to get it to recognise the card again.

Also some games flicker like mad, like Doom3, making them unplayable. If I use the Win7 drivers for my gfx card then it fixes it, but for some reason it buggers up the desktop, putting it into some sort of letterbox mode. Also this only seems to happen with my preferred resolution of 1920x1200, but no others.

I can't seem to find a firewall that will work reliably either come to think of it. I tried my old favourites like Outpost and ESET, and some newer ones like Norton 2009 and Comodo. Outpost and Norton slow everything down, especially starting up, also causing random BSODs. ESET and Comodo install ok but have issues, like not behaving the way they should. I'm having to just use ESET antivirus in combination with Windows Firewall :S

  7. There is so much software bundled into Nero now that I get lost just looking in the Nero 8 folder: NeroBackItUp, Nero Burning ROM, Nero CoverDesigner, Nero Express, Nero Home, Nero MediaHome, Nero PhotoSnap, Nero PhotoSnap Viewer, Nero Recode, Nero ShowTime, Nero SoundTrax, Nero StartSmart, Nero Vision, and Nero WaveEditor.

Which piece of Nero software do you use to get to your "Image Recorder?"

When you install Nero you get to choose which of these apps you want and which you don't. Personally I just use Express/Recode and that's all I need. If you want to convert any image to cdi then it's best to use DiscJuggler.

I would upgrade mine, but for some reason, the OEM refuses to completely remove itself from my system, effectively screwing up the subsequent installation of the newer Nero software.

I used this tool in the past to purge Nero installations before upgrading. IMO either 6 or 7.10 are the most reliable versions anyway, even if they do lack the newer features.

  8. I have been bouncing back and forward between Vista and 7 for the past few weeks now. 7 is definitely faster, but buggier. 64-bit seems to run better than 32-bit on my machine.

Not being able to install SPTD is something that's putting a few people off. Personally I found the only apps that wouldn't install/work were the TMPGEnc series. Some minor stuff that I could do without for now, like Unlocker, isn't working either.

  9. Full will be out in one month (with some packs for screens and titles hopefully and a few help full tools). It gives people time to help me polish it for everyone.

    Good luck guys

You can get in touch with me on MSN whenever you are ready to release it BP. I'm only too happy to help out with distribution :(

  10. Someone PM me the new beta. I'm ready to distribute all and any newer versions of CoinOPS, full or otherwise. I don't use it as much as I used to but I will help in getting it out there to other people. It deserves every accolade it gets!

Torrents, Newsgroups etc, just let me know how you want it :(

  11. SF4, Skate 2, Shellshock 2, Fear 2 and Battle Fantasia. Should keep me amused at the weekend!

has the pal version of battle fantasia been released on the net?

It has indeed, though I haven't backed it up yet :(

    Battle_Fantasia_PAL_XBOX360-STRANGE

EDIT : Shellshock 2 is woeful, as Inky mentioned. Give it a wide berth :D

  12. This isn't/wasn't my problem originally but I'd be keen to solve it and make use of any results.

For example.. say I used an application to download movie trailers. These trailers were always in mkv format and unplayable in my Xbox. I'd then have to manually convert these into mp4 or whatever and then stream them over to my 360. Usually I'd leave these files downloading while I was at work and then I'd come home to a load of video files which I'd then need to convert.

What if there was a way to monitor a folder for newly added files, eg. the 'Downloads' folder, and then run a command line to convert these files automatically to mp4/avi etc? Like if 'batman.mkv' finished downloading, it would then be deposited in 'Downloads'. Some method would then detect that this was a new addition to the folder and subsequently run 'convertme.exe batman.mkv D:\batman.mp4 /defaults /auto' or similar.

I've always had a vague interest in automating these sort of tasks, as invariably my downloads finish in the early hours of the morning or in the middle of the afternoon while I'm AFK.
