  1. Terminology is rather washy there. A workprint it may be, but that wasn't my point, you're arguing semantics for the hell of it.

I wasn't arguing about anything. I was stating that it was a workprint because the quality difference between that and a proper screener is usually very significant!

As for DVD rips, some films are mislabelled as such, eg a very good screener passed off as a DVD rip. In proper usage they should only ever refer to a copy of a retail DVD.

  2. Let me know when there is a DVDRIP, and not Screeners.

Sure, check back in 3+ months when it's actually out on DVD, otherwise any DVD rip IS a screener. :thumbsup1:

What do you mean by screener? Cam?

It's not a screener, it's a workprint. A workprint looks like a pre-production film, mostly complete but lacking some editing, CGI, overdubs, that sort of thing. Workprints are ok for 'normal' movies without any special effects, but not for this sort of thing

  3. i would just play it on windows but for sum reason when i install windows, i dont have any video or audio drivers so theres no sound and the screen resolution is extremely low. i dont really wanna mess with that rite now. plz help >.<

Windows doesn't magically come with every sound/video driver! Find out what make/model your motherboard is and go download the drivers for it. The minute amount of time spent downloading/installing a few drivers will seem like a drop in the ocean compared to the headache of trying to run Win32 games on Linux. Honestly, I have no qualms with Linux, but outside of a core of dedicated games it's just not 'there'.

  4. Thanks gavin. I just tried it out and it's not working for me. It says " Warning. Field 'refname' is empty in the datafile CoinOPS.Ignite. It is recommended to set a correct value in this field".

I click on OK and then it pops up another one saying "Error. This version of the datfile CoinOPS.Ignite is not supported. Please use another datfile, or download a new version of Romcenter.

    (I have RomCenter 2.71)

I also tried it in CLRMAMEPro, but I don't know how to use that program to do anything but create datfiles (since I never figured out how to do that in RomCenter).

    Any suggestions anybody?

I made the DAT with ClrMame (3.30) as in the guide. There was an option to use either 'XML' or 'deprecated' data format, which wasn't in the guide, presumably an older ClrMame version. I'll make another one using 'deprecated' and upload it for you to try instead.

  5. Sup, yeah tis going good, or at least it was until my XBOX decided not to run the Mortal Kombat Pack?!

Just obtained the .iso and have ftp'd over to the box but it wont launch in Unleash-X for some reason. Thoughts?

Back to the CoinOps. I couldn't tell you what version I run at the moment, I can only assume its the first release, obtained via torrent and to be fair, I wasn't really looking for it or knew at all what it was until I tried it out. I'm reasonable new to the XBOX mod world (still had an XBOX kicking about and decided to soft-mod it for a media centre, then realised what else it could do).

Also, I can't seem to find much info on this Menu-X you speak of, however, I have stumbled across a thread from a chap who has built a cab powered by an XBOX and somehow he has managed to use XBMC as a front-end launcher for multiple emulators. This could well be the way forward as essentially the box could boot straight to that and then run multiple MAME emulators (provided XBMC supports MAME as well as Sega, Nintendo and all that jazz) or CoinOps (again, as long as XBMC supports).

There seems to be a wealth of information on this here site though which should give me plenty of reading to be going on with.

Apologies, I have drifted somewhat off-topic here.

Is CoinOps Ignite scheduled for an appearance on XBINS or will I have to search harder? :D

You FTP'd the iso itself over to the Xbox? It needs extracted first, or burnt, to work.

As for CoinOPS Ignite, the standalone is in my sig. Full version can be obtained by PM if requested.

  6. I'm no expert but all(?) of the Nintendo titles use a different sound encryption type to 'normal' games. Thus no sound in Wind Waker etc. Apparently sound emulation for those games could be quite some time off

I only had the chance to try Wind Waker myself (64-bit) a few months ago and I was getting similar FPS to what you mentioned. The lack of sound just kills it for me though. I'm actually considering buying a cheapo second-hand GC again just to dig back into some of these titles.

  7. I was downloading some CPS ROMs the other day and noticed the exact same file names in my MAME ROMs folder. I am fairly new to Arcade Emulation vs. Console Systems so I wasn’t sure if there was a big difference between the two systems.

Pardon my ignorance on the issue, but is there an advantage to running a CPS Emulator over using MAME and are these different versions of the games with the same file names, or do I have things completely backwards here?

Same deal with the NeoGeo stuff. I use FBA for CPS/NG games and let Mame handle the rest! And yes, the roms will in all likelihood be identical to the ones you already have :D

  8. sound advice, although im probably just going to end up getting a joystick (since KOF will be out this summer)

or look for a 3rd party controller that has a superior Dpad

Yeah, haven't properly played SF since Alpha 2 on the Saturn. Compared to that pad the 360 one is poor :)

I just could never get used to a joystick for fighters at all for some reason. Whatever suits you I guess.

  9. Unless someone out there emulated SFIV, Tekken 6 or Atomiswave, i don't see an emulation revival. Heck, even CPSIII emu didn't generate much interest like Neo-Geo use to.

Even that would only be temporary. The whole CPS3 thing just seemed to fly by. Modern emulators are progressing nicely but are still out of the reach of most people as they require too much CPU power. Not to mention that they are still glitchy/no sound for the most part. Plus these emus already have their own dedicated forums anyway, something which never really happened before.

If people are saying emulation has passed it's apex then why continue flogging a dead horse? Why not change the name of the site and broaden the scope? If emulation is 'dying' then surely 1emulation will/is slowly dying with it?

  10. :D Longtime mameox user here.

Thank you so much for this it rocks. No more mameox for me {I am a 64ram owner} and mameox 128 just doesn't cut it for me.

I second the smb support request as well.

I am having a little trouble getting Ignite to recognize any roms on my inserted dvd though.

    any ideas?

    anyone?

Clicking both thumbsticks in the Settings menu allows you to add extra rom paths. All you have to do is add your DVD drive to that list.

  11. An idea could be to have a 2 DVD version with 2000+ games emulated,

or to upgrade the core to mame 0.130 so people could use latest mame romset directly, right?

If you can find an older romset then virtually any game will work, within the bounds of the hardware. You could also try locating 'BAED3A' which I believe contains over 3000 roms, almost all of which should be compatible with Ignite. Maybe some VMM or keymapping tweaks would need applied.

As for updating the core, that is an enormous undertaking, hence why Xbox Mame hasn't seen a core update in years. Not that many worthwhile games have been added since 0.84 anyway, though quite a few have been tidied up/sound added etc. It's much easier to make a shortlist of wanted 'new' roms and just add their drivers instead.

I said before about sticking with one name and still stand by it. Ignite is a good name! The concept of CoinOPS was to have a simple emulator, why not keep the naming of it simple too? :(
