CTRL+SHIFT+ESC brings up the password prompt for alot of security software

If CTRL+SHIFT+DEL isnt blocked, you can close it sometimes :D but your usually not that lucky

Booting into safe mode and deleting the security software off the HDD

Put damn small linux on a USB key and boot into that and do basically the same as above

Cheaper? Linux is free.

BTW you can also boot linux off a CD-R/DVD+-R if you wanted too which is cheaper than a CD Key but you might not have a CD Burner/DVD burner in the PC which means no writing to it  (If you used an RW) and you have to use the PCs HDD

The version of mandrivia for USB keys cost something like 50 euros.

Linux doesn't necessarily have to be free. It's free as in open source but you have to pay for some of them.

Of course, someone needs to get paid for making those printed manuals and other stuff that comes with those "commercial" linux versions.
