  1. I hope you don't mind me asking but why did you get this PC if you didn't know what games you wanted to play on it?

I actually had 3 games in mind and they're all FPS. Knowing me, I'm always thinking of the long term. I wanted to get an idea of what games I wanted to play beyond those 3.

By the way, those three games are Unreal Tournament 2004, F.E.A.R. and Half-Life 2. I won't pirate Half-Life 2 because a nearby store sells it for $20 :). I was shocked actually.

  2. Off the top of my head, the specs for my new PC are:

    Hard drive: 300GB 7200RPM SATA

    Processor: Athlon 64 3500+ 2.4GHz(disappointed that it isn't dual-core)

    RAM: 1GB :P

Video card: nVidia GeForce 7600GT 256MB

Sound card: Unfortunately it's some Realtek onboard.

Comes with a DVD burner, Nyko Air Flo EX, free FarCry DVD, and a free t-shirt.

Onimusha 3: Demon Siege just got a PC port, and DMC3 isn't far behind.

I already own Onimusha 3 for the PS2 and beat it. Great game.

  3. Welcome to PC gaming. :P

Are you into strategy games? That's the other main PC gaming genre. As a life long PC gamer I will be the first to admit that there isn't a large amount of new stuff outside of FPS, MMO (which I don't play at all), and strategy games to play. Pretty much every PC game is now multiplatform. However, there are a bunch of old games that are great for PC but won't take advantage of your hardcore PC. Also, we seem to have opposite views of RPGs as I don't consider most console (or Japanese to be more specific) RPGs to be true RPGs. I'm from the old D&D and Ultima mindset. You won't find many turn based RPGs on PC (hell, even on console since FFXII is going to be realtime combat) because they just don't sell well. Pretty much all the old PC RPGs are turned based though.

It saddens me but whatever, I love FPS games still so I'm content with that. :P

Thanks for your welcome. I'm not into strategy games actually and I don't mind multiplatform games, just as long as they're actually great games.

I don't really mind FPS but some of those games just...don't get my attendion. The guns in the original Half-Life and Quake were so generic. While a game like Perfect Dark had creative guns(laptop gun anyone?).

If I'm going to play an FPS in multiplayer atleast put in some new creative ways to kill people. I love planting remote mines in typical camp spots and blowing up people. Hopefully I will come across that here in these PC games.

One more thing. Need For Speed: Underground is the best arcade racer on the PC? I've played it for the PS2 and don't really like it that much.

  4. Hello,

For my entire life I've always been a console gamer enjoying earlier Nintendo and Sega consoles. And their games, such as the Marios and Sonics. Now with a PlayStation 2 I have a healthy collection of games including Final Fantasy X, Xenosaga, the Onimushas, God of War, GTA, Suikoden III, IV, and V, and whole lot more.

I truly believe that I am a gamer at heart but as I grow older I seem to be playing less games. I don't believe it has anything to do with age(in my case anyways). I think it's the fact that the game market lacks any games that sparks my interests.

Recently I bought an expensive PC(still waiting for it in the mail) and plan on obtaining popular games such as F.E.A.R.(don't worry, the new PC I bought could handle it), Unreal Tournament 2004, and Need 4 Speed(I need an arcade racer...I just need one). I've realized that the PC game market is full of nothing but first-person shooters and MMORPGs.

It'll be great if there were a third-person action adventure game similar to Onimusha, God of War, or Devil May Cry. It'll be great if there were a single player RPG with a turn-base battle system. I've seen videos of Oblivion and the battling looks very dull. The main appeal for me about any RPG is it's storyline and battle system. Oblivion just looks very uninteresting.

Anyways, it looks like I'll just be playing first-person shooters(as for Need For Speed, I doubt I'll be playing that for a long time after I beat it). Can you guys recommend any fun games outside the FPS and MMORPG genre for the PC?

  5. She's 18 years old. Unfortunately she does seem a bit immature and stupid at times. I mean, how can you assume all guys with blonde hair are homosexuals? That's one of the most stupidiest generalizations I've heard in awhile.

Hopefully you guys understand why I'm forcing her. She went through 2 or 3 years without playing the game and saying "it sucks". I mean, how can you justify something like that?

From her personality and her attitude towards things, you would think a game like Star Ocean 3 would be perfect for her. No taking turns, just mindless button-smashing and simple storyline(in my opinion). She didn't give that game a chance either. She kept talking about other non-pertinent and less-important things while playing.

It's like she has a short-attention span or something and only pays attention to cut scenes for five seconds. Whereas in Final Fantasy X, she pays attention to every little detail.

I don't understand any of this crap.

  6. I hope she understands this means war!

Just kidding. Let it go! you can't force a her to like a game, let alone a game from the genre she hates!

Unless you could trick her into thinking Tidus and his old man are making an appearance in Xenosaga...

    lol

A few years back she has always said she wasn't into console RPGs. Interestingly enough, recently, she states that she does like turnbase RPGs.

I don't take her words too seriously anymore. She annoys the hell out of me. And no, she didn't only do it to Xenosaga. For Star Ocean 3, it was much worse. She only played the game for a few minutes before concluding that "it sucks".

Initially I thought of her as the air-head casual gamer whos only into action-pack stuff. And that a game which involves thinking(you would have to actually use your head and strategize in a turnbase environment) would turn her off. That's why I let her play Star Ocean 3. Personally I think of the game as a mindless hack & slash(your opinion might differ her) but for some odd reason she wasn't interested in playing further.

It's just weird with her. She used to be a hardcore gamer and played any game with me back in the days. Her taste in interactive entertainment is just bizarre in my opinion.

She likes Final Fantasy because of the story, but simultaneously dislikes the whole turnbase RPG genre? And hates a story-heavy Xenosaga without even playing enough of it?

    I give up on her.

  7. Full Blog

A few years back(when Xenosaga came out) my cousin saw me play the game and told me to give her a quick summary. Explaining any RPG with a good and/or indepth plot in a couple of sentences just doesn't work. I was relatively new to RPGs at the time so I didn't really know this. I made an attempt to explain Xenosaga so far in just a couple of sentences to my cousin. After hearing my summary, reading the text on the back of the box, and watching me play for five minutes she concluded that the game "sucks".

She's one of the most closed-minded individuals I've ever met in my life. Prior to the whole Xenosaga incident the only RPG experience she ever had was with Final Fantasy X, a game she purchased because it was popular. She has stated numerous times that she doesn't even like turnbase RPGs. Surprisingly, she has gotten quite far in FFX. Recently she told me that she kept playing because the relationship between Tidus and his father interests her(personally I don't see anything exciting going on there in that side of the plot). I've concluded that her interests for the Tidus/Father relationship outweighed her annoyance for the Yuna/Tidus relationship(a side of the story that she has complained about on numerous occasions. She has also stated that she believes this is the worst part of the game).

Now a couple of years after my historic Xenosaga summary I finally confronted and persuaded her to finally play the game. Prior to this, she has always declared that "xenosaga is a bad game" even though she has never played the game. Actually, I sort of forced her into playing. I asked her if she wanted to play and she didn't respond. So anyway the game boots up in the PS2 and then she creates a new file.

The most annoying thing about her is that during almost or all of the cutscenes in Xenosaga she would talk about something completely non-pertinent to Xenosaga. Sometimes or almost all of the time she would make comments about very insignificant things(ie: "Why is Shion wearing glasses if they have the technology to build bots?!?", "Virgil has blonde hair, he must be gay!", "KOS-MOS & Shion should be lesbians, it'll make the story more interesting", etc.). During the very first cutscene where the Zohar is discovered in Lake Turkana she says, "Why don't they get real black people to do the voice acting?!". And she would go on and on talking over the dialogue and not paying attention to whatever is being said.

Upon initiation of the first boss(or mini-boss) battle against an A.G.W.S. in the Encephalon she uttered out, "Gundam!" as a reference to the legendary anime series. After that she would discuss her memories of the Gundam anime for the next five or six minutes(without pressing a button on the controller I might add). This is one of the most annoying things, that she continuously makes references to other comic books, movies and cartoons throughout her Xenosaga play. This is natural for any of us but when she does it she deviates her focus or attention away from the game. During one black & white cutscene where Nephilim is standing in front of the Zohar and mutely speaking with Shion, when the camera goes to Nephilum my cousin says, "Children of the Corn". I'm not entirely sure what that is(it's probably a movie or something).

I believe that if she had never heard my summary or read the text on the box or have been unaware of the existence of this game, that her first playthrough would be a bit more seriously. But because those factors were present she convinces herself that this isn't her type of game and pays little attention to the dialogues and cutscenes. She saved her file but hasn't met Captain Matthews' crew yet so whatever criticism she has on the game is unjust in my view. The story hasn't really began yet.

  8. Recently I stopped watching wrestling because the writing sucks ass. Which leads to lack of entertainment and illogical angles.

One great example is having Stone Cold lose to the Coach fairly at Taboo Tuesday. That's why Austin walked out on them again

Well, Eddie Guerro was entertaining and he'll be missed.

  9. Hello,

I'm an aspiring game developer and lately I've been disappointed with how today's games, especially developed by North Americans, lack creativity and innovation. As we approach the next generation of consoles I see more and more people go back in time to enjoy what video games had to offer. I've seen people go as far back to the SNES era playing Super Mario World and The Legend of Zelda: A link to the past.

Sooner or later the game industry will be twins with hollywood. Nothing we could do about this.

Well, anyways, one of the older games I've been playing as of late, on my PC, is Perfect Dark for the N64. I want to start an online gaming club where we could schedule multiplayer death matches and play against each other. Of course this would be once a week, preferrably on the weekends as almost everyone is pre-occupied with school and work.

Upon initiation I'll give you some "tools" to get started. But since this is 1emulation you guys should already know which emulator to use and such

  10. Hello,

The names Alluminitti and I'm a computer science major at my local community college. Hopefully, one day I'll become a game programmer and designer.

So far I only have three emulators in my possession and those are : Project64, VisualBoy Advance and ZSNES. I often play Pokemon Ruby and Perfect Dark.
