  1. You guys just don't get it

The Key is in the Processing

1080p processing can be done at the source, such as on a Upscaling DVD Player, Blu-ray Disc Player, or HD-DVD player - or it can be done by the HDTV itself.

Depending on the actual video processors used, there may or may not be a difference in having the TV do the final processing (referred to as deinterlacing) step of converting 1080i to 1080p.

For instance, if the TV is utilizing a Faroudja Genesis, DVDO, Silicon Optix HQV, or homegrown processors, such as the ones used in higher-end Sony, Pioneer, Hitachi, and Panasonic sets for example, may be equal to the processors used in many source components - so the results displayed on screen should be equivalent, or very close. Any differences would be more noticable on larger screen sizes.

    1080p, Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD

Also, keep in mind that with both Blu-ray and HD-DVD, the actual information on the disc itself is in the 1080p/24 format. Players, such as LG BH100 Blu-ray/HD-DVD combo player, have the ability to output 1080p/24 direct from the disc to its output.

Blue Ray is superior and I am all for one format for now. I am not saying that others should not try to experiment and make this better but for now Blue Ray wins...and yes Sony and Time Warner had a lot to do with this.

  2. For all you that ever wanted to experiment with Linux and were afraid to or did not have a separate machine to try it on here is you answer. I have tried this and it works quite well.

There's no doubt that Linux—particularly Ubuntu—is a killer operating system full of excellent apps, but for about a million reasons, you're stuck running Windows as your main operating system. We understand, these things happen. But what about all those killer Linux apps you've left behind when you decided to live the Windows life? Sure you could dual-boot or run Linux in the confines of a virtual machine window, but wouldn't it be great if you could run those apps side-by-side with your Windows apps—like Linux users can do with WINE or OS X can do with Parallels or VMWare? You can, and today I'll show you how to seamlessly run your favorite Linux applications directly in Windows with a free software called andLinux.

  3. "We're announcing that developers will not need to take a license, or pay a royalty, or other fee to access any of that information," revealed CEO Steve Ballmer yesterday (according to Microsoft's transcript). "As an immediate first step to apply the principles today we're publishing to the Web over 30,000 pages of documentation for Windows client and server protocols that were previously available only under a 4D trade secret license. In addition, protocol documents for additional products like Office 2007 will be published in the upcoming months."

The company's newly published Interoperability Principle spells out the terms to which Ballmer referred: "Microsoft will publish its documentation for these Open Protocols and Open APIs on its website so that all developers will have the benefit of this technical information in a manner that takes advantage of the nature of open discussion on the web. Microsoft will not require developers to obtain a license, or to pay a royalty or other fee, to have access to all this information."

But free access, the Principle makes clear, does not mean free use. While Microsoft will no longer charge fees or royalties for parties seeking information on how to make their software interoperable, it may yet charge royalties for the way others use that information.

As with most I do find this hard to believe that Microsoft would give away this information for free.

So wo here thinks like me that this just a way for Microsoft to shift its business strategy again? In the wake of their Yahoo bomb of trying to take and buy them out I think they are just trying to look good.

  4. A U.S. embassy spokeswoman said families of diplomats and support staff were being evacuated after rioters stormed the mission in Belgrade and set it on fire on Thursday. The ambassador and core staff would remain.

"We believe that yesterday's attacks on our embassy were conducted by hooligans and thugs," a White House spokesman said in Washington.

A young man was found dead in the U.S. embassy. The British, German, Croatian and Turkish missions were also attacked.

I read about this yesterday and still cannot find out if the one person found dead inside was a rioter or a U.S. military personal.

    Anyone know?

And the statement by the White House is a joke Hooligans and Thugs. What a choice of words.

  5. TOKYO (Reuters) - A Japanese man was arrested for trespassing this week after turning up at a high school dressed in a girl's uniform and a long wig, local police said.

Thirty-nine-year-old Tetsunori Nanpei told police he had bought the uniform over the Internet and put it on to take a stroll near the school in Saitama, north of Tokyo, on Wednesday, the daily Asahi Shimbun said.

When students standing outside the gates started to scream at the sight of him, he dashed inside the school grounds, hoping to blend in with the crowds of teenagers, the paper said.

They also screamed, forcing the man to flee, losing his wig in the process. A school clerk pursued him and stopped him at a nearby riverbank, the paper said.

Police confirmed the arrest of the man in school uniform and wig but declined to give further details.

What the hell was this pervert thinking? Blend in ya right.

  6. "Our goal is to drive a creative and social revolution in games with the same transformative power that we've seen in digital music and video sharing," said Schappert.

Among the homespun games that Xbox users can already share is Little Gamers -- a 2-D, side-scrolling action game created by a 24-year-old Belgian software programmer. There's also a puzzle game called Trilinea that was built by a trio of Brazilian developers. And Rocket Ball, developed by a U.S. gamer, features a street version of dodge ball.

Microsoft is hoping that the effort will lead to an explosion in the number of titles available for the Xbox 360. The company said it expects that more than 1,000 games will be available for the console by the end of this year.

    It's about time.

  7. If no agreement is reached, "the government will equip itself to introduce legislation swiftly if suitable arrangements between ISPs and relevant sectors are not forthcoming or prove insufficient," the report said.

That kind of legislation would essentially require ISPs to examine what content a subscriber is downloading, opening a range of privacy concerns.

Representatives of the U.K.'s Internet Service Providers' Association could not be reached for comment, but the ISP industry generally opposes measures that would require monitoring of content on their networks.

That view is supported in existing in European Union and U.K. directives, which says ISPs are not liable for material passing on their networks.

Yes this would be a big blow and a concern for privacy. I suggest all you Brits to scream from the top of your lungs at this one.

  8. Although the hackers operated from about a dozen towns all over Quebec, their botnet network was international in scope, infecting 39,000 computers in Poland, 28,000 in Brazil, and 26,000 in Mexico-- the top three countries affected by the group. In all, they hacked into more than 100,000 computers in 100 countries.

Always knew them Canadians were evil :(

Find it hard to believe they did not list the USA as a target. I know someone got hacked here by that...literally.

  9. Heart warming story for all you pet lovers out there.

Dennis thought he had seen the last of the dog days later when his squad headed back to its command post some 65 miles away. He couldn't take the dog with him and watched as it tried to follow the Humvees away from the border.

Two days later, while Dennis and a comrade were working on a Humvee, he looked up and saw the dog staring at him.

"Somehow that crazy damned dog tracked us," he wrote Jan. 9.

But the reunion was short lived. Military policy prohibits having pets in war zones, and Dennis was given four days to get the dog off the base or kill him.

The decision was easy: Nubs was going to San Diego. The logistics, though, were anything but easy.

Just like the government when a problem arises that can't be fixed kill it. The Marines have not changed since I have been with them 27 years ago...to me this is a bad thing.

  10. I have been playing this series since the first one on the 3DO system. Back then it was good and most of the newer ones to me are good as well. I really liked the trailer to this one and anticipate it's coming. I will buy it and most likely will like it. I am what you call a horror genre gaming junkie.

    Thanks for the trailers Wiz.

  11. 1080i vs 1080p

And keep in mind that all blue ray and hd dvds are in 1080p format.

I myself have a 42inch 1080p plasma and have seen the 1080i also cannot really tell the difference until I watch a blue ray movie then I can see the clarity.

If you are going to go hd then I suggest you go for the highest resolution you can afford. There is nothing wrong with 720p but once you have a 1080p you will never go back.
