  1. The easiest thing is to concentrate on one char only. So, you have to find one that really suit your style and train all out for it. For me, I have been maining Abel since SFIV so it is easy to adapt in SSFIV. I just learn one extra char in T.Hawk (he doesn't have much to learn) so it is easy. Comparing this to trying to mater T6BR's Lei's 160++ moves, SSFIV is really easy to learn IMO

Well once you master one you basically have mastered them all, to an extent.

You learn the shoryukens, the quarter-circle back club, the charge characters and the 360s and its all downpacked.

Then you learn to link an attack to one of the above and your set. The majority above that is basically learning to zone and reading your opponent and following through with your attacks.

I do have to say though that I think they have gotten a little overboard with the combo system. Linking 3 jabs into a medium and then a special going back into the medium and more is a little much.

I main ken, rufus and gen. I picked up cody with ssf4. I play with everyone though cause like I said once your good with one, the others come in time

Tekken is a whole nother ball game though. My personal method of madness is to go through training mode and do ever move until I know about it. Then I practice it all until I can pull it out in a match

  2. I find it too fiddly and the combos odd, dont get me wrong i love a fighter as much as the next guy, but the days when learning countless moves and timing is something I dont much enjoy anymore.

I was a side fighter liker for a long time i mastered games like fighting vipers most of the street fighters, tekken 1 & 2.

Just dont get hooked on fighting games like I used to.

I can feel you on that. Between still trying to learn new things in mvc2 and just the face paced gameplay of trying to learn st (finally) and playing tk6, its a chore now a days to devote hours to just learn things.

It would be nice to see Rival Schools 3 or even a new KI that is a simple game but very complex as you learn things

  3. The main reason Im building a custom is the button layout on most/all joys.

    buttonconfig2.jpg

The two offset buttons are still something im working on. 6 buttons is enough but a game like Soul Caliber would benefit me if I were to place a thumb button.

With a layout similar to this, My hand can lay naturally. Cost of materials was around ~ $110, but that includes the wood I used and its expensive. This custom stick will be great... Ill have no excuses once its built. I'll need to practice a ton to get used to it im sure.

Good luck with the build, I've seen enough of them to know that anything is possible with the right amount of motivation.

If you have any questions be sure to ask somebody off of shoryuken.com in the tech talk section

  4. The simple transition between bat top and ball top isnt going as smoothly as I though it would

Hit up Lizardlick.com and get yourself a Bat top and adapter. total cost will be around 10 bucks. Also if you are used to Happ and are now on a square gate that can be murder as well. an Octagonal gate will feel more like the 360 gate on a happ.

My TE is modded with an octogan gate, bat top and 2 hole plugs on the lower arched buttons. so I have an amarican straight 6 button layout.

Thanks have been planning that but never got around to ordering new parts. I been forcing myself to learn this way but usually I end up frustrated and the controller in the closet.

I play well enough on pad when I'm focused that people usually think I'm on a stick but I would love to take it to that next level

  5. I hope you have at least some experience with a stick (Sanwa or Happ?) before you make a statement like that. A couple of the best players in the world do so on pad, so its not as shitty as you think

ACTUALLY ... The 360 controller is crap. Thats what I'm talking about. I've always been a pad player but this joystick is a pet project. Do I have experience playing on a stick? No. But that does not matter. I could have bought a 3rd party pad but whatever.

The joy is a Sanwa JLF with an octagon gate and some seimetsu buttons. I bought "silent" microswitches for the joy and replaced them. I know being proficient on a joy is gonna be tedious. Most of my experience is on a pad so it's a new ballgame.

I just wanted the best joy possible. I really dont want to play on such a bad controller.

Not sure what your total costs were for your project but you should have just gotten a sf4 tournament stick. Basically the best you can get on the market unless your going custom. I'm used to american happ sticks and recently bought a sf4 tourney stick which is all japanese parts and its killing me. The simple transition between bat top and ball top isnt going as smoothly as I though it would but I have a friend who motivates me to keeping on using it.

First thing I would do in your place is figure out how you are comfortable holding the stick.

Above is a good video for starters

Once from there its all practice, good luck.

  6. Just played against a pro... one of my friends from Florida. This guy is the real deal. I was hoping for practice but ... I still have yet to build the stick. I will not get serious until I build it, to hell with using the regular controller. I refuse to build up skill with a shitty controller just to switch to the stick later. But I playing against my friend makes me realize how far off I am.

Shoma... if I see him and you both on at the same time, I'll attempt to get an endless battle going. You deserve to play against someone who is actually good. Just... I hope you take loosing gracefully. When I kept kicking you in the face with Sagat you got pissy. My friend is the real deal. Expect a beatdown if and when this day comes.

As for that movie... meh. Great cameras! Their choreography was poor among other things, but the cameras were good.

Verestic... multiplatforming? From 0 to 2 systems in such a short time... heh. Well Im game.

So is a stick going to make you an ultimate player??

I hope you have at least some experience with a stick (Sanwa or Happ?) before you make a statement like that. A couple of the best players in the world do so on pad, so its not as shitty as you think

  7. Lol I like seeing these guys with 5000+ bp that aren't very good losing to me at 0.

But i'm not digging that there's no player match and you can't choose which game to join. :\

Just go to endless battle and once in there go to custom match. From there just accept and pick from your list of rooms

  8. Yeah Cinder is right. I could have gone the Ir route and ran a wire to my dash but thats alot of work for just that.

I actually have that site and a couple others bookmarked but when it comes to resistors, voltage regulators and a couple others I'm clueless.

I just learned to solder and am looking for an iron for myself so once I get the hang of that no more electrical tape for me, lol.

I'm guessing I have to solder something on the board to regulate the voltage but I have no idea how to make that work. Can you give me a quick run down on what needs to happen or a link cause messing with power makes my head spin.

Next week I have to pay someone to add an invertor somewhere in my car to run the xbox. I would love to do it myself but clueless once again

  9. OK everybody I've searched like crazy and I hate making help topics but I cant find anything anywhere.

I'm following this guide from Xbox-Scene

I have a 1.6 psu so the voltage is different and its not working at all.

Has anybody attempted a new hack that works with the newer xbox systems??

I just noticed this Guide and may do this if I cant find another solution.

Oh the reason I need an on/off switch is because I have the xbox fitted with a 320 gig hd and its going to be an expansion to the mobile system I have in my car now. Its going to be in my trunk so I need an easy way to shut it off on if anything happens while in motion.

Any ideas besides getting an older xbox ?
