  1. I'm finding Oblivion has the same bug that kept me from beating Morrowind - I get a few hours in and just can't continue. I have to make a new character every time, just to see what it's like playing something totally different. Most recently it's a Nord combat type with blade, bow and heavy armor. I've sworn off chest armor just to keep him barbaric. He's working pretty good so far.

    I'm hoping I can shake this disease long enough to play through the main quest eventually.

  2. How about Syphon Filter? Initial D Version 3 (only available in arcade until now)? Monster Hunter Portable?

    A first/third person shooter/sneaker? I'm half way through Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for PC, and between myself and my roomates I've got all the Metal Gear games, at least one of the Syphon Filters, and both No One Lives Forevers in the house. I've heard Dark Mirror is a lot of fun, but it's hardly unique enough to make me jump for a PSP.

    Ditto for the racing game. Between GT4 and Burnout 3 (both $20 on PS2) I've got both ends of the spectrum covered with their best contenders for the same price as one PSP title. Again, maybe a fun game, but hell if I'm tempted to spend $200 just to play another racer.

    Monster Hunter Portable. That one I'm actually kind of interested in. A friend had the PS2 version and it was kind of fun. Not as boring as an MMORPG, but with many of the good elements from that genre. If it was made portable and remained psuedo-massively multiplayer, it might tempt me a little bit. And it bears a name I'm starting to trust again - Capcom. :blink:

    Not trying to be contrary or anything, just my opinion on this stuff.

  3. Yeah. Tekken is like the granddaddy of all 3D fighting.

    You CAN'T possibly hate it.

    Nope Virtua Fighter is the grandaddy of 3D fighters, as it was the first one made :blink:.

    Thank you for saving me the trouble of pointing that out. :lol:

    They should just call the PSP the CapcomP, since it seems like they're the only company interested in convincing people to buy the silly system. They could just replace all of the terrible Sony ads with spots for these capcom titles and they'd be doing much better.

    Or NamcoP. You forget about Ridge Racer, Me and My Katamari, Taiko Drum, Tekken.....

    Those are all decent, but I already have them beat on my PS2. GT4, Katamari Damacy, Guitar Hero, Tekken 5.. They aren't fresh(ly recycled) enough to make me want the PSP any more.

  4. That's about what I expected. Neither of them really has the library to woo me at the moment, which I would imagine is a popular sentiment, but I'm much more intruiged by the possibilities on the DS. A 3" movie screen doesn't impress me much, nor does an enormous mp3 player. But games like Trauma Center and Ace Wright, and even the simple and smooth stylus control for Advance Wars, pique my interest.

  6. I don't get it really. In other news...

    Maybe this is old news, but I think I found a trick to the lockpicking system:

    Close your eyes.

    I'm serious, there's an audio cue that is MUCH more accurate than the visuals. When you hit the tumbler, there is a "plink," but when you get it into the right position there's a subtlely different "ka-plink" sound. You still have to time the click right, but it's a lot easier when you know what to listen for. As an added bonus, it feels really zen when you can close your eyes and pick a Hard ranked lock at a 15 security without breaking a pick.

  7. I assume this has to do with Oblivion? :P

    I'm not sure if "inside your PC" is in CA(lifornia) but if so, you might check out Directron.com. Their prices aren't bad to begin with, and no CA tax ftw. Every time I need parts I shop around, and usually end up coming back to them. Oh, and their RAM section lists speed and PC# side by side for ease of use.

  8. For the love of Vivec, please don't use the middle line!!!

    I thought it'd be better than just deleting the old, no longer applicable, text. Guess not. Bonus points for the Morrowind tie-in. :banghead:

    bUseWaterShader=1

    Change to

    bUseWaterShader=0

    No more crash when entering the sewers. ;)

    Turn bDoImageSpaceEffects=0 back to 1 and see if everything goes back to normal. It's not shader dependant and your card should be capable of it.

    You may also be able to enable some of the PASS options for a cleaner look. I know I can't on my 8500, everything goes black.

    I wish you better luck than I've had, exiting the sewers is a big NO for me, no matter what settings I change in the INI. Looks like I'm presented with the true reality of upgrading, too bad my bank account disagrees.

    Yeah, I looked on the hideously unorganized post at elderscrolls.com and found to turn the water shader off. That got me through the sewer segment, but outside is still hit-and-miss. I find I can run around as long as I stare at the ground while I'm moving. Not much fun, but I was able to get to a town area and talk to some people and stuff. Oh well, it was a fun demo while I await my new system. ;)

  9. It's crude, but if anyone else using this trick crashes trying to enter the sewer, hitting tilde (~) and entering the cheatcode "movetoqt" will fix you. It'll put you at your quest target, which my system was able to load. The crash error may occur elsewhere, but at least this'll let you wander more.

    And thanks a ton Cinder!

    Update:

    Ok, that doesn't work all that well. I still crash when I leave the building. HOWEVER, setting bDoImageSpaceEffects=0 allows me to enter the sewer. It also allows me to exit the building that "movetoqt" sends me to, however the outside world is really ugly, and crashes after moving around a bit. I shall continue to poke at settings, and thanks again for finding this trick!

    Update 2: Setting bDoImageSpaceEffects=0 seems to make indoor areas work fine. Outdoor areas not so much. Most terrain appears as large blocks of solid color, water is a transparent purple volume, and oblivion crashes to desktop before anything can be accomplished without fail. It seems to happen when you cross a certain invisible line in the terrain, but more research will be required.
