From the pictures I assumed you were already upscaling/transcoding to VGA, so if you are, then yes it will work. I used one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/CGA-EGA-YUV-TO-VGA-arcade-video-converter-US-Seller-/320849107333?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab418d985 I plugged my systems in through component set it to 480i/480p then into the the SLG then VGA out to my plasma. Worked great this way with PS2/Xbox/360/Wii. There was no lag that I noticed. I sold my set up to a friend of mine, so I have to order parts again. This will even take RGB from SNES,Genesis, etc. and upscale to the VGA and SLG will give it a great classic look.

Make sure to add a scan line generator for the classic look. You can build http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/other/vga-scanlines.htm or buy one http://godlikecontrols.com/ (in a month or 2 when they are back in stock).

You don't need to have a specific DVD drive on the xbox as long as its from an xbox. They're not married to the motherboard like on the 360. It won't make a difference if the system is chipped or not either.

First time poster, VERY long time lurker. I've had it sitting in my closet for about a year now. I modded 2 of them, 1 for me and one to sell. I offered it up to an XBMC dev, but that didn't happen as the need wasn't really there. I ask that you pay for shipping, and I am okay with you paying after you receive it. GONE! The system is on its way to iq_132. I have one I can give away. It's a console only and the dvd drive does not work. It's a philips drive that needs a new laser. The duox chip is flashed with X2 4980.6. I could get a new laser for about $10 or I could source a drive, but that would cost around $20. I'm located in the US. Though if you prefer one or the other that is fine with me. This 1.2/1.3 board had a couple of capacitors replaced. The DuoX chip was installed because the previous owner had botched a TSOP flash, so it will not work without the chip in place. I can flash whatever bios you would like prior to shipping it.
