  1. There are different variations, it's not a highly played game like poker so I don't think there's any official ruleset to follow. In the version I was taught you don't have to increase the number of cards, you can put down as many as you want. My example may have sounded that way but it's just be the way I explained it. You have to put at least one down, and if you were telling the truth the maximum you could put down would obviously be four, being there only four suits, but you can put any number down at all if you can get away with it. A sly tactic to lose cards fast is to put down three cards when you only claim two, four when you claim three and so on.

  2. Anyone ever played a game called Hero Quest? It's sort of a dugeons and dragons type game, with little figurines of players and monsters, and a dice and cards for attacks.

My parents bought it oddly enough for my sister many years ago. They said that the game was complicated and that they'd have to read the instructions and then tell us how to play.

Skip forward a decade or so, and they never read the instructions, the game never got played, and the intructions were lost. I decided years later that I wanted to know how to play it, so I wrote to the game's manufacturer, and asked if they could send me a copy of the instructions. And they did.

So I read them and learned how to play. I then asked my mum and my sister and her boyfriend at the time if they wanted to play, but after I explained how to play they all said it sounded too complicated, and to this day the game has sat in my sister's old wardrobe, never played.

The original instructions were then found in my dad's wardrobe drawer. So, if anyone has played hero quest, please do tell if it's cool.

  3. That would be awesome thanks. You see I'm planning my secret revenge on a certain someone who killed me without provocation. I had no plans to use the attack sytem until that someone was the first person to attack, and kill me. Now I kill others who are like I once was, striving to become strong enough to avenge myself. Of course in killing the weak to gain levels I have become as bad as my killer. But I will have my revenge.

  4. Of course, Cluedo, how could I forget that? The little dagger in the one I have is so sharp it could have your eye out. Don't play the sucky new version though. They changed the weapons, changed the rooms, and made it so that as well as Dr. Black being killed, one of the players can be killed too thanks to the new cards they introduced. So if you get killed and it turns out you're the murderer, that means you committed a murder suicide. How stupid is that?

  5. I replaced my old dreamcast a while ago coz it was broken, kept resetting itself, and the new one I got off ebay was one of the later revisions where normal selfboots won't work. So I ended up replacing all my old burned cdrs with originals. Much better that way, although newer rips of DC games include a workaround that allows them to boot on even the revised dreamcasts like mine. They work when the cdi is bunt with Discjuggler.

  6. Cheat? Ill have to google it.

The aim of the game in Cheat is to get rid of all your cards. You deal out all the cards of a shuffled deck to the players. Five or so is best. To begin, a player puts down a numer of cards, face down. They all have to be the same, for example, three Kings. The player must state what cards he is putting down, saying out loud 'Three Kings'. The next player then has to follow by putting down cards either the same as, one above, or one below the previous players. So after three Kings, your options are another King, up to four Queens, or up to four Aces.

Here's where the cheating comes in. You have to put cards down no matter what. You cannot skip a go if you don't have the cards to follow. So, if I had to follow a King, but had no Kings, Queens or Aces, I would have to lie and put down cards that were clearly not Kings, Queens or Aces, but state that they were. So after three Kings I might say 'Two Queens' but really I was putting down a Jack and a four.

The other players then have the right to challenge my statement, by calling 'Cheat'. After which, the cards that I just put down must be turned over. If I am revealed as cheating, I have to pick up all the cards on the deck, thus hindering my effort to get rid of all my cards. If however I am proved to be telling the truth, ie. if I really had put down two Queens, the player who called cheat must pick up all the cards in the deck.

The player to get rid of all his cards first wins. The game is about luck, and lying convincingly. So try not to say 'Four Aces' when you don't have them, coz the others will be damn sure you're lying. And of course, to win, your final cards put down must be truthful, as if a player is about to win, it's always worth calling 'Cheat'.

  7. Problem solved. Archives and links in the FBA-XXX Skins thread updated. If people just download the Legends_HD_Upgrade.rar again they'll get the fixed xml:

On boot up for most games, there is a green screen with artifacts that shows up before the NeoGeo bios screen begins. :(:(

That happens on most emulators. Why is that? Does that happen when a real MVS machine loads a game?

  8. It was pointed out that the HD xml for my skin didn't include the values for making it play my music tracks. The archives and previous links have been updated. So if you're using the HD version, just download Legends_HD_Upgrade.rar again to get the fixed xml and hear the background music:

    Sorry for any inconvenience.

  9. edit/iceman there hasnt been a release yet with the neogeo names fixes.

Pooper scooper. When Kenshiro said it'd been fixed before I assumed that the fixes he posted on neosource included that. Or maybe they do but no one's compiled a build that includes those fixes yet. Here's hoping there's a new release soon coz I really do wanna see the neogeo games back in the right category.

I just tried the version that tuffahamame linked to earlier, this one: Link Removed and the NeoGeo games appear in the right category now. The version I had before was from March, this version is from may. I am very pleased.

Staff Edit: Links to binaries compiled with the XDK are not allowed, they're illegal.

  10. I have a few misc questions that have been on my mind for a while, so I'm going to ask them now.

    1. Is FBA supposed to be able to save highscores? I assume no coz it doesn't. What makes it that MameoX and CoinOps can?

    2. What's the difference between the two CPU types you can choose from in FBA? Is one better than the other for certain games?

    3. Is there a more complete set of cheats for FBA? I have some that Fumanchu posted a while back, but they're for only a few games. Or can someone point me to the tool I read about that can make FBA cheats from a MAME cheat.dat file.

    4. Are any new games being added for the next release? Theres a few games I'd love to see on FBA. Like the Raiden Fighters games, Gunbird 2, Strikers 1945 2+3, R-Type 1+2, Golden Axe 2 - Revenge of Death Adder, The Mortal Kombats. I realise some of those may not be possible to get working properly. But they'd be nice to see.

    Questions end.
