  1. not yet revealed...i think the confrence is still goin on or sumthing..

Revolution's enigmatic controllers were not revealed, but they will be wireless. Rumors have been awash that the controllers will be unlike any before, possibly losing buttons in favor of touch screens or incorporating some sort of gyroscopic functions.

touchscreens for buttons? whoa.....weird. still would love to see the design though since ps3 design is giving me the heeby-jeebies

there u have it. and my thoughts for this revolution is....WHAT???

i like the purty blue light....looks like an oversized external cd-rom.

Today, Nintendo revealed its contribution to next-generation gaming to USA Today, and the newspaper hit the streets just hours before the company's scheduled pre-E3 press conference. The console will be called Revolution, and is scheduled for release sometime in 2006.

Nintendo is the last of the "Big Three" to reveal its next-gen plans. Microsoft took the lid off its future console, the Xbox 360, last week, and Sony unveiled the PlayStation 3 yesterday at its pre-E3 conference.

The Revolution design didn't follow suit with its curvaceous competitors, the concave Xbox 360 and convex PlayStation 3. In fact, its simple rectangular design can be easily mistaken for a modem at first glance. However, like its competitors, the unit can stand vertically or lay supine. The black console can fit snugly in a grey stand, where it is pitched upward at a slight angle for vertical positioning, or be removed and laid flat (and look eerily similar to Apple's Powerbook batteries).

Revolution's enigmatic controllers were not revealed, but they will be wireless. Rumors have been awash that the controllers will be unlike any before, possibly losing buttons in favor of touch screens or incorporating some sort of gyroscopic functions.

By Nintendo's own admission, according to USA Today, the system is two to three times as powerful as its current-generation console, the GameCube. Sony's PlayStation 3, announced yesterday, is reportedly dozens of times powerful than its predecessor, the PlayStation 2.

However, Nintendo told the newspaper "It's not all about having 'turbo power', It's about what you do with it." What Nintendo plans to do with it is still under wraps--the publisher has not yet announced any games for the system.

Eschewing its previous business ideas, Revolution will be online-friendly, and support a broadband gaming service similar to that of Microsoft's Xbox Live. Its most significant contribution to online gaming will be the ability to download games, and not just simple puzzlers or platformers from the NES days. GameCube titles will be downloadable, though it's not clear whether the games will be saved to a storage devices or memory cards.

For those who would rather just pop in their hard copy of Mario Sunshine, Nintendo offers a simple solution: backward compatibility. Like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Revolution will be able to play all the games from the current generation, as well as DVDs.

Be sure to check back for more information on Revolution. GameSpot News will be updating this story throughout the day.

  3. why choose only top selling games to playback? it doesnt make sense. i mean, i do understand what they mean, but if ur gonna do playback, might as well go all out. its a win/win situation. its like already goin the extra mile, and to allow playback for all games is the extra 100 yards for the touchdown =)

Prolly so they can force you into buying an X-Box, thus bringing in more profits for Microsoft.

maybe. with whatever is left i suppose since they stopped shippin nvidia chips to xbox manufacturers. how much can that bring? not much compared to playing back the entire xbox library.

  4. I'm waiting until the Revolution struts it's stuff. So far I've been thuroughly unimpressed by either Sony or Microsoft.

i too wish i can be that optimistic. i was realy impressed with what 360 brought, so far at least.

anyways, after watching the confrence for ps3, it has given me a feeling that they are gonna "bring it", that sony has given us a reason to not underestimate them. With the way Ninendo has performed in the past couple years with Gamecube, i cant help but feel unexcited. I'm interested to see how it looks like everyone else. but barely announcing that they finally can play DVDs is not much of an accomplishment. they better have something big to offer bc so far, 360 (sorta) and the ps3 has set the bar pretty high. thats my tired opinion =P

If nintendo doesnt pull a actuall revolution this time around, do you think they'll end up like sega or stick to handhelds?

to me, it would make ssense to stick with software. sega hasnt done too bad with software only. i mean, imagine, Legend of Zelda on Ps3 or 360. beautiful. handheld wise, i dont know. DS has gotten raped by PSP in my book. sony has shown that their handheld division can do some good for them. nintendo can try to fire back in the future with another handheld, but i wont be surprised if they fail, since so far PSP is kickin butt.

  7. from watching the whole 2 hour thing ()

i am very impressed with what the ps3 has to offer. the performance is quite stunning and the presentation of the mechanisms of everything was flat out impressive. i for sure will get one of these things sooner or later when the time is right.

Everyone's money is going for sony. 360 was good, but then sony showed what it had to offer, still don't know how many gigs PS3's HD is gonna have if it even has one >.<

imma be honest, i almost understood what all those numbers meant. haha almost. i got lost somewhere in the terrflop haha. i was glued to the spec presentation. comparing how strong their processor and ram and whatnot to Xbox 360 was quite interesting.

  8. well if its comfy, then good. but man, it does look like a bat-a-rang.

another thought on the system since im on a next-gen con high right now. the ps3 looks very...unique.. the reason why i like ps3 more than 360 is bc sony took it to the next level with console design. whereas the 360, the first xbox shouldve looked like the 360, and the actual xbox shouldve went to hell haha.

  9. thats a good question. considering that Sony just got their balls sued for the Duel Shock tech., im not so sure if they can do it for this one. i personally wouldnt care if they did or not. to be honest, i dont really notice it.

it seems like its wireless, so wireless is the new norm. too bad there isnt any word for rechargable stations for it. im still weird on the controllers though...*sigh*

  10. GTA for a launch title??? man, sony is really on the ball this year. they are not backing down whatsoever....this is great bc GTA is one of the best well known titles in the PS world. Like Zelda with Nintendo in a way.

as a launch title, this can really put ps3 on the spotlight for awhile. especially if the game surpasses San Andreas in every way, and it has so far with the previous 3...
