  1. What format is your hard drive using? An NTFS drive will have a larger section of said files then a FAT/32 format.
  2. Always read the documention for BIOS updates carefully. I can sympathize with you though. Win2k was doing a similar crashing thing so I reformatted the harddrive and reinstalled everything. Now it works better then before! When I first got this machine though windows was always having problems until I updated the bios. hmmm...if it is a bios problem try finding the manufacturer's website and ask around to see if other people have the same problem. However, the whole dilemma you mentioned with the power supply could also be to blame. Perhaps something got fried? Oh, yes, one last thing, some windows updates conflict with each other and can cause the computer to hang like you describe. If you do a clean re-install only patch your OS with critical updates. Well, I'm out of ideas. Good luck.
  3. First off, some advice: Most emulators run at 16 bpp and will change your screen resolution to that when they start. To save your video card some wear and tear you might set your resolution to 16 bpp all the time. For the most part there is little visual difference between 16 bpp and 32 bpp anyway. Secondly, you can always check the status of your DirectX drivers by clicking Start --> Run and type dxdiag.exe in the menu that pops up. This will open the DirectX diagnostics window. I hope GryphonKlaw's idea works. Let us know if it does.
