Gryph Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I would like a decent gamepad for emulation (I'm going to try to get back into it) and console-ports (like GTA:SA and Psychonauts). Suggestions plz.
Shibathedog Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 it might be discontinued now, but i still think the Logitech Wingman Rumblepad is the best gamepad made for the PC EVER I remember PC Gamer drooling over it for quite some time. For SNES and other 4 button uses, there was this cheapass microsoft one i remember you could pick up for like 10 bucks new at stores that had 4 buttons, two shoulder buttons and a D pad that wasnt bad either.
Agozer Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Logitech Rumblepad 2. I have one, so it must be great.

It really shines in Psychonauts and other console ports, plus it's good for emulators too.
BlackKnight Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 (edited) People are going for the rumblepad but Ill step in and endorse something else.. if it makes a difference... XBOX 360 controller for Windows It is amazing. Feels solid and stylish.. very responsive.. Only problem is those driver issues that you always hear about but honestly they dont matter. XBCD drivers solve everything and are easy to find (if not I can just PM you them). Also you can pick up the one for Windows or the normal USB wired one for the 360 and itll work aswell. I cant say enough good things about it... I love it. Ive never used a Rumblepad so I cant say if its better or worse, but Id have a hard time believing you can top this controller by a huge margin. EDIT: Of course if youve used the 360 controller before then youll already know whether you like it or not... :/ Edited December 12, 2006 by DragonKeeper
Gryph Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 Yes, I have considered the 360 controller. I was hoping for something closer to the $20 range instead of $40. I really love the feel of the 360 controller because it fits my hands so perfectly and I prefer the locations of the two analog sticks but I never liked its d-pad so much. I'll probably have to feel the Rumblepad 2 before I purchase it, of course, but the 360 controller is high in the running.
Gryph Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 Alright, due to lack of Rumblepad 2s with none in stock for a long time to come, I got a 360 controller.
Agozer Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Alright, due to lack of Rumblepad 2s with none in stock for a long time to come, I got a 360 controller.Excellent choice. I'm not much of a fan of the BOX, but that controller is awesome.
BlackKnight Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Yeh nice move. Btw, for when youre using stuff that doesnt map controller inputs well, is there a general program that can toggle swapping a hatswitch with an analogue stick?
Gryph Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 I think Joy2Key should work. I'm going to try it later. I'll tell you how it goes. EDIT: I don't think I know what I'm saying. Is there a way to let me use the D pad in Kawaks and stuff? Will the XBCD 360 setup have that stuff?
BlackKnight Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 (edited) Yeh you can. Some apps only let you map the stick axes and not the hatswitch (dpad). In the XBCD options you can remap things like the dpad with the stick X and Y axes so that it works. Its annoying though... MAME lets you map things directly to the hatswitch but Kawaks doesnt. Same with console emus- Gens wont let you map the hatswitch but Gens32 and Fusion will. So yeh what I was asking before is if theres some little tray app that lets you toggle the hatswitch and the stick axes. I have one like that for my old Nostromo n45 controller. You just right click it and select 'swap dpad and analogue stick'. But it only works for that controller... I was wondering if there was something more universal out there. Shibathedog Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 oh i forgot to mention i often use my PS2 controller, you can get PS2>USB adapters for like 10 bucks now, it works great BTW speaking of xbox peripherals on PC, my copy of windows right now isnt exactly umm..microsoft approved (i got sick of their stupied automated process that doesnt work and hangs up on you....their fault) so i cant get on windows update (or maybe just shouldnt) so does anyone know where i can get a driver to use the Xbox Live Vision cam and a webcam on my PC?
