  1. ok thats cool then, one more thing is there any other cool programs out for the ds.

Lots! Not too many Wifi ones, and what little there is is only in beta stage cos of the wifi lib. Maybe if you posted somewhere a little more frequently visited (such as "The Lounge" where robbbert is known to troll, lol.) and ask suggestions you'd get a good response. Im just lazy and can't be bothered tracking down links for all the programs.

Anywho, if you go through the news archives of www.drunkencoders.com you'll find all the coolest stuff thats out there really.

  2. which is harder to get to work thanks for all ya help i got win2ds working but finding it really hard to get pointyremote to work, this seems harder to me.

Pointyremote's server won't even start for me, so there's my view on that program, lol. Plus it seems like a dead project, so I wouldn't hang too much on it. :banghead:

  3. im a noob at this just thought someone wud help me, i have actually tried 3 programs and i cant connect with any of them, i have tried win2ds, pointyremote and ds2key, i no i must be missing something, all the people that have got this working there must be 1 out there that can tell me the steps, this is wot i have done.

1.i have set up the connection settings on my ds thats fine

2.opened port 8888 on my router

    3.started the server

4.then i load the program and i click auto connect, it does the searching and that and then i get cannotconnect

5.i tried doin the manual connection and i got as far as entering the password but then it hangs at waiting, the manual does not always work.

Have you tried manual connect? There are a few things I've noticed about Win2DS in particular that has a few bugs. I don't know why, but when the stylus is in the top oleft hand corner for me, the mouse is poistioned right, but the further away I o from that corner, the more out of whack it is.

Try setting everything manually, assign a static IP to your DS and see if you still get the problems.

  4. Well, seeing as how the average mp3 is encoded at 128kbps, I'd say that would be the quality. Of course the speakers don't sound too great, but thats why you have a headphone jack. And as for DPG files, use BatchDPG instead of DPG Tools to encode and they look fine.

If your going to ask for links, you can get them all with a bit of reading from www.drunkencoders.com

  5. ummmmm.....o k then. well it still doesnt tell me what programs to get to transfer the code to the ds.

Ok then, first check if your current wireless card supports the right chipset for WifiMe. All details are there, just follow the tutorial.

If not, then you need a DsPassMe and some kind of flashcart, if your looking for cheapest then Supercard SD or CF is probably the best choice. I'm not going to post or link to reviews of all the GBA flashcarts / adapters you can use, because many many people have already done that. Remember, as I said, google is your friend.

Then, unless you want to keep that large ugly passme in your ds, the best bet you can use is FlashMe - a replacement firmware for your DS that you can use to boot homebrew and commercial games.

Notice I didn't link to it? Thats because I believe that everyone needs practice with google! (Bleugh. I'm at work and don't have the time to find a link. I'm pretty sure you can get passme2flashme.gba at www.ndshb.com though)

  6. what all do i need to be able to do this. what programs that are free and what else do i need. how do i get the data to my ds. i need a step by step thing of what to get and what to use and then what to do.

And I need a cold bourbon, but we don't always get what we want. Seriously though, always remember that even if you have no others google is. All you have to type in is "Nintendo DS Homebrew and you'll get dozens of sites with detailed step-by-step-hold-your-hand kinda tutorials.

But here, all the tutorials on what you need and everything else can be found here.

  7. ok guys thanks for the help i also need a passkey whats the cheapest price where i can get one?

The link I gave you is where you will ifnd them the cheapest. He's a great guy with good communication, my firt one got lost in the mail, he sent a second one straight away, even threw in a Jtag programming cable with it.

  8. Ok, so I installed the Windows version of DevkitPro, then used a CVS program to download the wifi lib. All good so far :)

This is where it gets irritating, I'm 99% sure I have to link the lib somehow and I have no idea how to do it, when I compile programs that don't include the wifi lib they compile easily, but if it includes the wifi lib, then it throws all sorts of fun errors out.

I don't think a log of errors is really needed cos It must be pretty straight forward as to what I need to do, but if you do need them, let me know and I'll post.

    Cheers ppl,

    Ben. :P

  9. Lesson number 1 - don't make 3 topics with not alot of info within 5 mins.

That aside, to make a passme (passkey) you can have a look at Natrium's site here. (You can also order one off here, which I did because I would probably cost myself more in burn ointment than its worth.)

Also, to find out what firmware you have (which lets you know if you need a pass me 1 or 2) visit ndshb.com's reference chart.

Then, go here (ndshb again) and it will tell you how to use the passme(2) with the M3. Don't pay attention to anything that is between the OLD METHOD flags, I suppose thats there for reference

After all this, when you actually want to download DS Homebrew, there are heaps of sites to look at, Google is your friend!

    :):P:punk: <---I like them too :-)

  10. DS to DS isn't supported yet, a router would need to be in between.

Binaries have been sent to the DS, there is a HTTP downloader out there and bafio's UDP download client.

Hmm, a http downloader eh? Ive never heard of that one x_x; do you have a link?

Definitley! Can anyone provide a link to this? My gf doesn't have a USB port on her laptop. (Well, there is one, but there's problems, long story)

This program would solve many of my headaches!

  11. I'll take you up on this;

For starters, there's no great outnumbering of homebrew from either side, it's pretty close to 1:1 or just leaning slightly to one side or the other. If you want to make an argument about the quantity of homebrew, it would be nice to have some sort of evidence; I'm betting you just haven't found the right sites.

I would appreciate it if you could point me toward some :P

I'm not sure on this anymore, but not too long ago the only wifi the PSP was enjoying was only through the official psp SDK, which is a huge nono for homebrew development.  The wifi lib for DS isn't perfect yet, for sure, but it's very easy to use and works for nearly everyone at this point.

And yet, xbox homebrew is one of the largest, and the only way to complile code for it is with the official XDK.

Yes and no, a lot of this is just older applications, recent ndslib versions greatly improve this. And if you're talking about my code, it's not using the touchpad in an optimal way (I've come up with a better way to do it now, but I haven't yet implemented it)

All I can say is: Yay.

Mind numbing range of gba cards, and yet nearly everyone agrees on a very few range of options for homebrew; all the options are mainly for pirates. <_<

And none of us should be appreciating neoflash anyway, the damage he's already done to the community is far greater than any sort of competition could undo, especially a competition that (as you stated) seems to serve to do more damange to the community.

I don't know what he's done in the past, but that comp irritated me. And how is it that people can make fake DS carts and sell them on ebay, but there are no DS carts for homebrew scene to use?

And, this didn't *used* to be a problem, but it is more so (but if you are trying to justify a freaking 1GB CF card for homebrew, that's ridiculous). The cheapest option right now is probably passme2 + a really cheap flashcard. A number of us like the GBAMP(v2), which is very cheap (~$20), widely used, and until passme2 became the norm, all you needed was a gbamp + passme....

Besides all this, there will shortly be cheap "true" DS flashcards which will make homebrew cheaper, easier, and more universal again.

I won't bullshit, I use it for other things than homebrew (and we all know what that is). It is good that nintendo doesn't object to homebrew as much as sony seems to though.

Overall though, don't get the wrong idea - we're happy to have you around & contributing :P

    -Stephen

    Thanks!

  12. I got bored the other day and was scouring the net for DS homebrew and one thing really irked me: For every piece of DS homebrew, there was at least 5 for PSP. Then I started wondering why this was...and I came up with these. If anyone wants to argue a point or add more, feel free.

    - Incomplete/Unstable Wifi lib (I know stephen has worked hard on it, but hey, its lacking in certain places. Wifi and the touch screen being the biggest advantage to the DS, which brings me to the next point....)

    - Poor accuracy for the touch screen code (Yes, I know its improved, but when you try to hit backspace and a D keeps appearing? Irritating.)

    - Mind numbing range of GBA carts -each with their own specific way of running things and hardware advantages. (e.g. compare the SUpercard CF or SD to the Magic Key 2/3)

(edit: As a side note, the neo flash coding comp specifically states that you should take advantage of the MK2/3 hardware if you intend to win. Thats nice and all, but what is the point of alienating over 50% of DS users by making a program that only works with certain flashcarts?)

    - The overhead to get the actual homebrew running. (I know, now because PSP uses the GTA game there's not much difference, but in the beginning there was. I live in Australia and had a Supercard CF delivered from Jandamann, it cost me $88. That is $12 less than what I paid for the console. After buying a 1GB CF card for $55, that's $43 more than I paid for the DS!)

  13. Just having a look over at www.ndshb.com and noticed that they're starting a wifi gaming comp with the first place prize being an Xbox 360!

Although I think wifi has more of a place as being used in an app, such as a web browser, IM or any of the other 99 useful net progs that could be ported, it should be interesting.

5 people have said they'll compete so far, with a few more giving luke warm 'maybes'.

    I just wanna see a web browser!  :P  :D

Oh yeah, is anyone from here planning to enter? Wouldn't ask you to give away any ideas, but a yes or no would be cool.

Yes, I realise its a gaming comp...which would be cool, especially an emulator with 2 player link via wifi! But I dont know if that really comes under a game...does it?

  15. No better with no firewall....I have a NAT with firewall, but I've allowed port 8888 UDP connections to go through it. I'll play around with some settings and let you know what I find.

**Edit - Still no good, I'm looking at a 2 - 3 second delay between pushing B and having the zoomed view move. Can anyone think of anything that would be giving me this? I also noticed that the mouse doesn't go where I'm touching on the screen... I use the small view to get in the general area of what I want to do, then switch to Zoomed view to be a bit more precise, but the mouse seems wayyy off when its in zoomed view!

**Re-Edit - After a bit of playing around, I have also found out that if I'm more than 5m away from the pc, there is n ocommunication between the routeer and DS. I'll try Pointy Remote and see if I have the same results with that.

    ....Yeah. Pointy Remote sucks.

  16. Ok, so no port forwarding, or anything like that? I have port 8888 UDP forwarded on my wireless router, and DS2Key is working perfectly, but 0.4 and 0.5 are just hanging at the waiting screen. Arrgh, frustration!

**Edit - Yeah, I got it working, not sure what I did different. Oh well, I won't change anythinganymore....runs a lil bit slow doesn't it? Are there any settings I can change to alter the compression or anything else?

**Re-Edit - Is there any way to save server settings on my DS? I'm using a Supercard CF with the 1.62 Firmware and a 1GB CF card.
