  1. It's always good to remember those who started all this.

Emulation isn't just about emulating retrogames, it's imho also about the community, the ones that play all the games and share their passion with others.

It would be a lonely world for some of us without all those emulator developers out there and some, new to retro/classic games, wouldn't have the chance to play all those classics.

I really appreciate the work they do, be it a whole emulator or just a plugin.

  2. I have a SuperCard SD which I can run the program itself from fine, but I can't connect to anything. Even if I could connect to my router, how would that help? Don't I need to connect to the computer, not the router?

No, you need to connect it with the router, but before you connect it run the .exe file,

make sure that the DS' ip is different than your PC ip.

The DS2Key will automatically connect to the app on the pc.

You know what would be really nice? If it would just show up in the download play play menu. That'd be a nice feature if at all possible.

It is possible, and it should work actually, but you need to set up your computer to

send it (you need WiFI card with a special chip) and your DS needs to be Flashed.

  3. Hey fellas, Ive been wanting to snag a copy of the ds2key for my mac but the links are all outdated. Could sombody repost it?

I'll upload them to the ds2key site when i get them from bagster.

  4. I need some help here. My Access Point is a PCI card: Gigabyte GN-WP01GS. It is working without any problems in Nintendo WFC games like Mario Kart DS and such. When I'm turning DS2Key on then it's searching for the Access Points and it's seeing my PCI card. Then I'm trying to connect, but in the lower left corner it's "Searching" the whole time. I've checked my firewall, ports etc. but there's nothing blocking. What am I doing wrong?

Do you have the pc ds2key software up running properly?

If yes, check if you have the same port for the software and the ds side

and keep in mind that the ip for pc and ds need to be different.

If your pc has something like 192.168.1.1 then just use something like

    192.168.1.101 for the ds.

  5. Now, I would just use this on my Win2K PC, but all my StepMania songs are on my Win98SE. The problem is that when using Windows 98 SE with DS2Key, the touch screen mouse movement works perfectly fine. But the buttons do NOTHING AT ALL. Now on Win2K, it's perfectly fine. But I don't want to move my 1.5 GB of SM stuff. :/

I have that problem too, but it's a problem coming from win98 itself.

At first I thought it was due to the old direct x version, but a new version doesn't change anything.

The buttons do work, though. But if you hold down a button only a keypress event will be received.

We can't do anything for now. But there may be still one way to do it, but don't expect it to work for the

    next time.

  6. Actually, I'm not convinced portability is really a big deal.  xds2key is pure C and quite portable as a result.  About the only tricky bit is finding the X11 libraries.  'course, that's easily solved with a really dumb script (or you could get fancy and use autoconf).

What a Perl version would bring, however, is greater ease of modification.  Combined with all the CPAN modules out there for interfacing with things like XMMS, etc, I could see some interesting applications getting dreamed up.

I didn't try to convince you to use perl (I don't see any good reason to

not have a C based server around).

What I meant was exactly that, Perl is 'portable' (well platform

independent) and easy to customize at the same time.

Perl is not that hard to learn, even for beginners, so almost everybody

could add feature they need/like to the sevrer easily (if they really want

    to).

Ha ha, yeah, that's probably overkill, particularly for an app I don't plan to work on any time soon (it works well enough for me, thus that itch is scratched). :(  'course, that's not to say someone couldn't take over the project and talk to sypherce about hosting. *shrug*

One page or so to describe the use of xds2key could be helpful to

some of the users, if I get some free time I could add it (some

    information and instructions).

  7. Currently it's just a simplistic interactive app.  Turning it into a daemon would be pretty trivial... just need to add a fork around the main app logic and disconnect stdout, stderr, etc.

Incidentally, my first instinct was Perl as well, but I couldn't think of a nice, portable way to get at the XTEST protocol without having to require external modules.  I've never actually heard of this xtest program you refer to, nor could I find it on the Fedora box I'm in front of or the Debian machine I have at home... must be in some optional package somewhere. :)

You're right it's XTEST not xtest and I meant the X11 extension XTEST

(the one that handles the XTEST protocol).

But you're right you need a the XTEST CPAN module for that (couldn't think of any other portable way, too).

But perl still could be a good way to make it platform independent (even

for Windows there is a GuiTest module that is used in a similar way).

I will work on a perl script, may be some users use it as template and customize it to their own needs.

Nah, I'm a luddite. :D  Why not just discuss here?  I check back frequently enough...

    No problem.

sypherce mentioned he already talked to you.

You can have a own section on the ds2key website if you want (I don't

think sypherce has anything against that).

  8. So I bought Mario Kart DS just for the multiplayer online. I did all my settings corretctly, put in the WEP key and all that jazz, but its not connecting. When I searched for the connections, it found my wireless connection and it had full bars, but when I tried to test the connection, it had no bars and said I couldn't connect. What could be the problem here?

My WEP key is only 5 characters long, could that be a problem? Any other solutions besides buying the WFC?

I don't know why it doesn't work either because I could go online just fine with my PSP.

Use the hexcode of the WEP key (most routers show the hex value for the

    key in the control panel).

  9. I planned to make one in perl (a script controlling xtest).

I didn't have the time to test your server, but I will do

    if I get the time.

Is your server an 'interactive' app or a deamon?

I thought about releasing my server in two version (deamon

    and user version).

Maybe we can share some ideas, do you an msn messenger

    account or any other messenger?

Send me a pm if you have time.

  10. It's in the readme (afaik), you need to switch you ds off and on (quick),

and then go to "Save", and select the DS2Key.sav...

Thanks for the polite response. I should have already mentioned, but I tried this with a 64kb.sav file and it's still not loading my settings on startup. The files are named DS2Key.sc.nds and DS2Key.sc.sav

Make sure that both files are in the same folder, if their named as you

mentioned there shouldn't be a problem (it's case sensitive btw.).

You to turn off and on the ds quickly after setting up and saving the

WiFi data, the save should be still in the sram of the sc now. Go to the tab named "SAVER" select the DS2Key.sc.sav, Press A and then again for

saving the sram into the file. Now as long the.sav file is in the same

directory and is named right the sc loads the data into the sram automatically.

I'm not sure if that still works for the latest release, I just remembered

that it writes the save into the FAT system (which works only for CF media

right know due to the used version of the CF driver).

the 0.3 does for sure, so may be you should use that version.

  11. How do I save my connection settings with DS2Key? I'm using a SuperCard SD. It's a great program, but manually typing in all that info every time is kind of tedious.

It's in the readme (afaik), you need to switch you ds off and on (quick),

and then go to "Save", and select the DS2Key.sav (if any, if you don't have

one you need an 64kb file with nothing in it (I'm not sure if it is 64kb

but I'll make sure when I'm home), the file must have the same name

as the DS2Key binary except for the extension (DS2Key.nds -> DS2Key.sav,

DS2Key.ds.gba -> DS2Key.ds.sav, but I'm pretty sure you use something

like DS2Key.sc.nds -> DS2Key.sc.sav). Just put this file in the same

    directory where the binary is.

  12. Never works? You mean the DS can't connect?

I haven't tested it with the recent version, I'll try later

    this day.

I tried it with the first server version (the one without GUI), and

    itr works.

The problem of the recent version could be the auto server detecting feature of DS2Key.

Multiple DS use with the server is already on the upcoming feature list.

  13. dosnt the ds2key make it so that u can like borrow ppls access points from like across the street?

Don't be confused with something like that. DS2Key has a built in Wardriving program.

With that you can find ap's, but you can only find them, that's what you can do with every wifi card for a pc.

The many purpose of ds2key is still using the ds as gamepad for pc.

  14. I don't think so, each PC has to have a unique IP, and DS2Key sets a server PC (so only one...).

Yep that's true, the network card just ignores data for any IP except for the IP the PC is set to.

That's different for a UDP broadcast though, it sends data to a range of IP's (that's the way ds2key finds the server).

  15. HELP! I cant figure out how to use the DS2KEY. Can someone help me out?

                                              -Eric

PS: this is my first post

No problem, just post some infos on what and how you did try to connect.

What IP adresses you use, wether you use special features (like wep, wep

doesn't work at the moment). Have you started the sever app on your pc?

Did you change the port? If you did did you change it on both sides (ds and pc)?

  16. hm... ds2key 0.4 has much more delay than 0.3.

i'm still using version 0.3 which enables a nearly perfect control when using an emulator. perhaps the problem lays by my pc & router or someone the same problem?

however a great and usefull application  :banghead:

Me nor Sypherce could detect any delay in the use of 0.4. I played Stepmania with it for several hours, and the button detection was as perfect as it's always been. Perhaps it is your computer or router?

Same with me, I couldn't detect any delay.

Maybe you did use different configs for 0.3 and 0.4?

Maybe a different port or something.

  17. can't find one :banghead:  o well i guess it isnt possible. cheers for your help. i know i give up easily lol.

You could look for a cheap pcmcia wifi card that is on that list.

If you can find out what chip it uses (broadcom is afaik only the company and I don't think they have a softap driver for it).

If you find out what chip it use then post it here maybe someone knows about a soft ap driver by an other company.

  18. i've got a M3-perfect SD and i put both the.nds and.ds.gba versions through the M3 game manager software, even though the.nds version didnt work at all the.ds.gba version worked fine. even though i havent got it to connect yet (i think my router has blocked the required port, i just gotta change it)

If you router blocks the port it only blocks it if the conection is from the internet not from a local machine/device.

Maybe a firewall is active on your pc, if you have win xp make sure the win xp firewall is disabled (or the port is open.)

  19. Hi guys, i think i understand how to get this program to work through my wireless router. but is there a way i can get my laptop to act as an access point so i can connect my DS straight to it? thanks.

That depends on what chip you have, if there is a driver somewhere that supports soft ap mode and that is for the same chip your laptop has, then you could just that driver. I assume it is an onboard chip, right?

If not is it on this list: http://ralink.rapla.net/ ?

If it is try this: http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/Ralink_niwifi.

  20. if the test now supports wep why don't ds2win and ds2key support wep yet?

will i be able to get my ds to conect my laptop's wifi card as a way to the internet instead of the router? incase wep never gets updated on these things.

DS2Key (sypherce) will get WEP support as soon as the new lib is out.

WEP is decryption of the Connection, wether you can connect to your Laptop

or not depends on the Wifi card, if the Wifi card supports Soft AP mode you can.

If it doesn't have a native support. If you're lucky and your card is on this list: http://ralink.rapla.net/

    then try this: http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/Ralink_niwifi.
