  1. Sorry for taking the unpopular route here, but no real good can come of such wanton reprisal in the long run. It may feel like justice for a moment, but you're hurting at least one person (if not their friends) and you're not really helping anyone anymore than you would with a "Hey, you shouldn't do that again 'cause someone could screw up your stuff."

    It's just bad karma dude.

  2. I actually did give Duel Masters a try. A kid's parent brought them back to my store, trying to return them under the "I don't want him having these!" excuse, which obviously didn't fly, so I was left with them. It is a little like magic, but it seems far too oversimplified. The way "mana" works was an interesting change, and the "sheild" concept was OK, but it just wasn't complex enough. I played Blue in magic during Blue's heyday (just after Legends, lots of complicated control and clone type cards) and DM felt like it catered far too much to the big-creatures and direct damage type decks that had been so overpowered and strategy-less in Magic.

Maybe after a few expansions it'll be decent.

Oh, and the art is too anime-inspired. Magic was unique because of the variety of styles. A lot of the old stuff was even traditionally painted art.

  3. I looked at the list that taratata linked to and wondered to myself if any of the "last executions" were of famous executions. Some of them were around wars and suchlike, which got me thinking war criminals, but it's more probably because authority changed hands, etc.

Nevermind, I've been up WAY too long. :thumbsu:

  4. I used to play M:TG in middle school, and I had some Star Wars TCG and PlaneScape: Bloodwars but never really played those two that much. The darn things cost too much money, as everyone has said. In addition, now that Wizards of the Coast has turned to unabashed money-grubbing tactics with Magic, I'm pretty much out for good. None of the others (Pokemon, YuGiOh, etc) struck me as having as much depth, and the awesome art of some of the magic cards just isn't there.

I always thought the tactics of play and deck-construction were a really unique set of challenges, and that the expandability could keep it fresh. When players were limited to Revised and maybe the Dark expansion this was the case. But now they've turned to extreme "keep buying or you'll suck" tactics. From what I understand, Wizards of the Coast doesn't even let you play in "official" tournaments with cards older than the last couple of sets anymore. They say it's for play balance, but when the basic cards are so similar from set to set, I think we know better...

  5. I saw bourne supremacy today and it was seeable. It's not the "bourne goes rambo on the gov" plot that is advertised in the trailer, which was just as well by me, but one of my friends complained about that. It's your typical "mindless summer blockbuster disguised as a complicated mindgame" movie, but was a fun romp.

The one thing everyone complained about was that ALL of the action scenes, and even some of the non-action scenes (looking up a hotel on the internet, for example) are filmed in this extremely jerky, rarely a complete second of footage, american fight-scene style. It's interesting, but it gave some people headaches, and I couldn't help but think I'd have enjoyed it more if I could see a little bit of what the heck was going on.

  6. One of the few films that star Asian actors.

    WORD

also a movie that has no martial arts in it as well :P

Something tells me asiansploitation is more like it. Judging by their advertising, these two were chosen because someone thought it would be funnier if two asian guys got stoned and did stupid things.

And there may not be any martial arts, but I'm pretty sure they get a cheetah high. :D

  7. the only thing I didn't like about Cheech and Chong was Cheech. That guy was a little too....stereotypical :/

I thought that was kind of the point? They were your "typical" stoners, but with blunts the size of a small car. :D

    '':P

    nevermind

Or were you referring to the ethnic stereotype? But yeah, I get that too, but I don't feel bad about it since he wrote his own character.

  8. the only thing I didn't like about Cheech and Chong was Cheech. That guy was a little too....stereotypical :/

I thought that was kind of the point? They were your "typical" stoners, but with blunts the size of a small car. :P

The review on imdb for this movie called The Big Lebowski a stoner movie. Did anyone else see that movie? Was that really a stoner movie? It had John Goodman and Steve Buscemi in it for pete's sake... I liked it, so I need someone to tell me it wasn't just a stoner flick.. :D

And Fear and Loathing was too heavy for me, I think I woulda freaked out if I saw that stoned.

  9. While working retail, I saw parents who would ONLY buy mature rated games to play with their elementary-school-age kids because they thought anything less than an M rating meant it was boring. Obviously, rating systems can backfire without responsible adults. :P

No, I don't think games should be banned by a government, but I do respect the rights of individual companies to not carry certain games (BMX XXX anyone?).

However, I do think parents and public-media outlets that blame real-life violence on video games should be nuetered and banned, respectively. There are a thousand places anyone, child or not, can be exposed to ultra-violence in just about any form, but whenever something happens, everyone's got to find a scapegoat *cough*redherring*cough*.

  10. I checked out some of those POWMAX cases on their site. Never heard of them before, but they look pretty cool. If you got one of their Micro-ATX cases, it looks like the hard drive should go at the top, in the front, in front of the power supply. It'll mount in the little cage the same way your CD or DVD player did in the vertical cage below it. (As K' said)

If there are two sets of screw-holes and only one removable cover on the outside (as in their black and silver micro-atx and it looks like their acrylics too), mount the hard drive in the holes that are NOT behind the removable cover. This leaves that space open for a floppy or card reader or whatever later on.

    If you didn't get a micro-ATX.. well.. oops, read K' 's post. (K's? K''s?) :P

  11. They both look good, very good. I wonder what the case or container of the PSP will look like...it must be sexy too.

That's a good point. Considering the number of scratched non-SP GBAs I saw coming into my store, screen-safety is going to be a big issue if there isn't some kind of slipcover for the PSP.

  12. If you're really into it, the Udon comic book probably has the most comprehensive storyline. Whether it's cannon or not I don't know, but it's covered pretty much all the bases so far, and the art is sweet. It's pretty early in it's run too (I think like issue 10, with 0-6 in a trade paperback) so it's not too late to pick it up.

However, all told, pretty much every storyline ever based around this game series has consisted of:

    1) Our Hero (Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li or Guile) hears something about Our Villian (Bison, Akuma, or a generic maniacal Supervillian).

    2) Our Hero travels and runs into a character chosen more or less at random from the series. They fight; Hero wins.

    3) Insert a short scene about something mentioned in someone's ending sequence from one of the games OR have Our Hero team up with one of the four heroes not already traveling with them OR have Sakura admire Ryu.

    4) Repeat parts 2 and 3 until you have filled enough space.

    5) Have Hero and at least one other hero he has teamed up with fight Our Villian. They lose until they combine their abilities OR Ryu finds his true power, then they win. Thanks for playing!

They're all nifty for fans, particularly the original SF2 anime and the Udon comic, but none are exactly Shakespeare. Except for the live action movie. Now there's an instant classic. :P

  13. Full media capability?  You're joking...so it plays DVDs and crap?

    HANDHELDS DON'T PLAY DVDS!

    CONSOLES SHOULDN'T PLAY DVDS!

It makes them smaller...when they don't do so much extra crap.  It makes them less expensive...when the don't do so much extra crap.

Consoles these days need the DVD player anyway for their media, and the cost of the software/decoding hardware for movies is practically nil anymore. There's no reason for consoles not to have DVD playback, and it wins over a lot of those people who are "teetering on the line" about buying into video gaming.

As for handhelds, the PSP does not have "DVD" playback, per se. It uses Sony's new UMD media, which are much smaller (they look about the size of mini-discs, maybe gamecube disks) and so not a factor in the size of the machine. These new disks will be able to hold (supposedly) dvd-quality movies and many will be released in this format.

You might argue that this capability will make the system more expensive, and it might initially. But, as the capability pays for itself in UMD format movie sales, this portion of the markup on the system will probably go away rather quickly.

  14. I like it about even with the old 1-2-3 style

    1-2-3 style?

Meaning 1st char until he dies, then 2nd char until he dies, then 3rd char until the round is over. The way it was in the previous KOF games. IE, no switching.

Yeah, K explained that already. ;)

Sorry, I was too slow to realize what "best of 4 rounds" was reffering to... <_<

  15. D'oh! I just saw this thread and wanted to add that if you live in a state that NewEgg charges tax in, Directron.com can come out cheaper overall. Well, for next time.

Let us know how it comes out, or if you need any help!

Edit: Oh yeah, and what'd you get?!

  16. I tot DS stand for Developer System??

It does, I forgot where I heard it from.

That was some Nintendo pep rally thing. They called it that to try and entice developers with what is supposed to be an easy-to-develop-for system (Playstation is known to be a pain to develop for).

It looks nifty, but how well it fares against the feature-ridden PSP remains to be seen. I think it could do well if they manage to bring it out of the "gimmick" realm. So far, most of the demos have been simple, predictable stuff, like maps on the alternate screen, etc, which aren't going to be worth another 200 bones to me. I hope the developers can come up with some cool stuff.

  17. With the other kofs, compared to this, all you had to do was choose characters that have the highest damage/easiest use potentional and beat the other team sensless.

well you could do the same on kof 2003 , right?

That would get boring on the long run, but this is just my opinion.

This is still a (if not the most) valid "strategy" in 2K3. Boring, yes, but it's always been boring.

The new switching system is far better than strikers (cool for cameos, not for gameplay), but I don't really see it as a necessary improvement over the old one-at-a-time style. The "leader-move" thing kind of bothers me, as most people just pick the guy with the highest damage/priority super first, but the mid-match switching is cool.

I like it about even with the old 1-2-3 style, and I hope any console ports they release will have the option to choose, though it's unlikely.

  18. Pfft, Kill Bill Vol.1 has Sonny Chiba in it. Badass already with just him in it.

Eh, one cool actor in what amounts to a bit-part does not a good film make. It does, however, make a good cheap attempt at "street cred." Forgive me, I'm probably the only young-adult in America who thinks Tarantino is a hack. <_<

  19. I used to work in a video game store and heard about this once in a while.  I even had a friend who used to get this, but he quickly got over it.  I was able to re-invoke it in him recently with a Ut2K4 mod I was playing with that caused the player's view to pitch and roll more often than normal.

Speaking of which..  You said you had problems with Deus Ex, Jedi Outcast and Halo (Single Player).  I'm probably just crazy, but I seem to recall those games having a little more of a slower and more deliberate sort of "weaving" rythm to the view rotations.  UT2K4 and Duke tend to match "head" movements to mouse movement with less lag.  Again, I'm probably just nuts here, but try turning your mouse sensitivity up real high?  Or if you feel like experimenting, try turning it down in UT2K4 and turn on "weapon bobbing" or whatever it's called and see what happens.

I don't experience it myself, but I've always been really curious about this phenomenon, so if anyone has any links or anything, post 'em. ;)

hahah thanks daeval..ill try d0oing that on ut2k4..

i think you said this but.. yea the weapons do tend to bob more in jedi outcast and in deus ex.. i think thats why i tend to feel queesy.. <_<

Good luck, let me know how it goes!
