  1. And... I"M BACK! lol Sorry I've been gone for so long but I have recently hit the brick wall of revelations. All of this retro gaming through CoinOPS and other emus felt great but something was always missing. It just didn't feel right playing these games, or shall I say "roms", through emulation software rather than the real thing. And NO, you do not get any credit for this direction I have taken Sparda  But my friend and I have recently been bitten by the "retro" bug! We have both been digging out the old consoles, scrubing them clean, buying new ones, and stocking up and TONS of classic games. I recently bought a Saturn (modded) but then realised that I would rather own the actual games than to be playing burned copies. And thus, my Saturn collection begins ;) I will still use CoinOPS for sure but probably (very likely) only for Arcade games. I'm not going to go out and buy a Neo Geo cab and the carts... or am I!?!? lol no, I'm not. Maybe one day though. We can all dream lol. So PHil my setup has been altered again and again. I have more shelves to house all of these games I've been buying and I'm pretty sure I've spoke about the crt tv I'm now using for my old consoles. But I'm sure it's still not good enough for you Sparda lol :) I like you :) Anyways, I still want to squish this bug on the rotating shmups!

  2. Sorry it's taking me so long to take more pics. I've been adding to my setup. I actually have an additional 27" TV now (CRT) to the left of this setup. That TV is going to be for older consoles or possibly just Sega consoles (Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast). I'm trying to finish things up this weekend. May hang something on my bare walls too cause it looks blah to me lol. I got some Left 4 Dead movie posters I have never hung up so I may get those framed and put up :-)

  3. Sure I'll help test this. Really want to utilize my tv in portrait mode with CoinOPS and all the great shmups :) Thanks for the link. I'll look into that should I come across any other titles that aren't rotating. I've also realised that I will not be using the "Auto Rotate" feature with my tv in portrait mode since the controls rotate with it, making it extrememly difficult to play games lol. Now if we could have a seperate option to keep controls from rotating (BP you hearing this? lol)... :P

Phil, what was weird about those Striker games is that the video preview rotated when I enabled that option leading me to believe that the game would rotate also but it didn't. So if it is not suppose to be a vertical game then the preview shouldn't rotate.

So BP, which of these ideas/feature requests/fixes seems more feasible:

    1. Fix the odd pixel tearing when vertical games are rotated or displayed in a side screen mounted mode.

    2. Add an option to not have the controls rotate when "Auto Rotate Vertical Games" is enabled.

    3. Create a vertical GUI for CoinOPS when the screen is mounted on the side so everything is not stretched and distorted, making it difficult to read. **The options menu (press start menu) also needs to rotate when screen mounting is enabled because currently it does not**

    Maybe all 3...?

    :(

  4. I'll try it tonight in 480p. It would be really cool if we could hammer out this little annoying issue. Everything else is working great :P BP I also noticed that other games I tried when just using the "auto rotate" feature did actually rotate. So maybe it was just a few games having problems and I can't remember which ones it was :) lol. I remember seeing the "Psyiko" showing up in the first screens so I'm thinking it was the Striker series.

  5. Here are the pics :)

Here is DoDonPachi running with Perfect Pixel AutoFit (aka x3), no antialiasing, and 0 flicker in portrait mode (by using the screen mounting option and rotating my tv). I did notice something odd happening to the graphics in portrait mode though.

    imag0074k.jpg

Top of the screen where the odd pixel tearing appears most prominent:

    imag0075dx.jpg

Bottom of the screen where it appears less prominent:

    imag0076x.jpg

Now here is a shot of the same game running in landscape mode with my tv rotated back (still Pixel Perfect Auto Fit):

    imag0077ra.jpg

Notice that in landscape, the tearing does not happen and the game looks great with pixel perfect auto fit. Just a lot smaller :(

BP do you think you could fix this odd graphical glitch that appears to only be happening when you mount the screen on the side? My tv is a 32in LCD running CoinOPS in 720p. Or is there a setting/option that I am missing? lol I ask that a lot :P

BONUS PIC!!! lol This is my modified X-Arcade stick and the laptop platform I also modified to hold it. It's on wheels so I can pull it out in front of my tv when I want to or store it away on the side of my room. There are some corner "L" brackets with padding on them helping hold the X-Arcade in place (2 side, 2 back). But they aren't attached so I can remove the X-Arcade easily should I want the cart for something else.

  6. The people that come in here and defend BP to the death typically have fewer than 50 posts. They probably see a single comment directed at BP, take it WAY out of context by disregarding/ignoring what BP has said leading up to that comment, and then formulate this "You're the best BP. Haters gonna hate!!!!" attitude. None of this bickering/bashing should be happening in the first place and from either side. Its easy to see why it does though. Like BP said, "misinformation". But maybe this "misinformation" is also coming from a source where he least expects it: himself.

  7. Hey BP, remember that issue I had with DoDonPachi saying it was "out of memory" when I tried running the game and you said it should be set up to work from the beginning? CoinOps 2 FULL version has the same issue, at least for me. I know what I have to do to fix it (edit the virtual memory file) but why is this not working from the get go? Is my xbox different than others/yours? Does anyone else have this issue or am I missing something, some option, something simple that others know about.

  8. I picture the "Butthurt Dweller" when I try to picture what you look like Sparda due to how smug you sound.

All kidding aside, you come across as an ass sometimes :) Here's to hoping that I'm wrong. I'll humor you and respond as if you care and are being constructive :(

I'm not at home so no I can not post pics of this in action. I was using the "Pixel Perfect x3" while vertical and it looked great to me (again, this is where you are probably saying "Pssh, what a noob. I know what's best. My own opinion."). There were some black bars still above and below but that is expected. I've got all my emulators set up to be pixel perfect (Fancy Xbox) in 720p. I currently do not feel the need to add scanlines and am happy with the outcome.

  9. I just mounted my 32" LCD to my wall with a flush mounth that can rotate from landscape to portrait mode without any knobs or adjustments. Simply grab and rotate the tv. I wanted to play all of the vertical games in CoinOPS 2 with my tv in portrait mode but am running into a few issues (though not roadblocks... more info to follow). When I go into advanced settings and enable the "Auto-Rotate Vertical Games" option, I come back into the roms/games browser and notice that the vertical games preview videos are now rotated. I start up one of these games, and the game is not rotated at all. I've tried this with multiple games. The only "fix" I discovered was through the "Screen mounting" option. This however, stretches out the GUI and now horrizontal games are distorted. I want to be able to scroll through the games in the normal landscape mode, select a vertical game, load it up, see that the game is now displayed vertically, and then rotate my screen to play the vertical game. Is this possible or is there something I am doing wrong with the settings/games I am choosing?

Remember, the games video previews rotated, yet playing the game reveals that it has not rotated.

Also, I don't want a permanently side mounted screen. Having to turn this option on/off is a hassel. Especially because the options don't rotate...

I will update later with pics for you Phil :)

Playing a vertical shooter vertically rather than squished horizontally is like night and day...

Edit: Pics uploaded and a few posts down...

  10. I think it would be appropriate to give people a choice as to which emulator they want to use for 64 games. Or if people want to use both, then one shouldn't interfere with the other. But I think it should be of some importance to fix this considering you are using the surreal core and it is preventing (or will prevent due to issues) users from getting to use the actual surreal emulator if they have both on their box. Think if someone made something that screwed with CoinOps when it ran and the creator of this "thing" said it wasn't that important to him to fix. That's practically telling people they have to make a choice between the two. Something originally created and something being borrowed. Why can't everything and everyone work peacefully together??? We shouldn't be trying (intentional or not) to break eachother's work. Or break eachother's hard drives either :)

  11. What are these issues/rumors I've heard users talk about concerning the cores in CoinOps screwing with the actual emulators that use the same "core"? Like the Surreal one. If I use Surreal in CoinOps, will it mess with my actual Surreal emulator at all (saves, etc.)? Same question for all the cores/emulators. If it does cause issues, do you plan on fixing them so that your CoinOps can reside along side other emulators on the same hdd minus any interferance or complications between the two?

  12. This guy. Again. Game. Set. Match. Win. Victory. 1up'd. If you don't agree with him/us then I hate you.

    PS. :D

Edit: Obviously I don't hate anyone. Twas a joke. It's sad that I felt the need to edit this disclaimer in...

  13. Phil, I sincerely hope you aren't "Whatever"ing me... I don't see how we can ignore what is happening and what is being said. As far the hdd people taking over this thread, go make another one lol please and thank you :D but BP is on some kind of power trip and is forgetting about why he does what he does in the first place. I would love for this shtuff to be done with. I hate drama more than anyone (especially on a forum about a decade old console) but things need to be addressed. It really is simple BP and I've told you this from the beginning, on here and through PMs: Quit feeding the flames and focus on the goal! Think it, create it, and share it. But don't make us a toy and then tell us how to play with it (T'sWSS). You out of all people should agree with that.

  14. Avoid the drama? Of course. None of us want it. But maybe you haven't read the other thread where BP states:

....if I wanted to lock you guys out it would be easy as....remember I can write to bios....check saves...check crc...encrypt xbes.....remove files....change files....format drives......

Really makes you want to trust someone and put the fate of your XBox in their hands, doesn't it? And all you wanted was to enjoy the work of a dedicated and hardcore gamer. So avoid the drama? Usually I would say "Yes, by all means". Ignorance is bliss unless ignorance ends up screwing you in the ass.

  15. BP, even if there was this huge conspiracy against you (Fact: There isn't) you are falling into this fake conspiracy's trap! If the conspiracy (Fact #2: There still isn't one) was created to misinform people and turn people away from your work and CoinOPS, then you are only helping it! Placing these locks in CoinOPS, real or not (Fact #3: misinformation? Who the fuck knows?), and telling people YOU CAN/WILL FORMAT DRIVES is going to scare people away from CoinOPS forever. It's already in the minds of everyone now. Your followers, the people you are doing this for, are thinking "Wtf?". Again, if you are not creating this for us then why give it out and ask for people to mass distribute it? If you are not doing it for us and are putting in code to reformat people's drives without them knowing, then how are you any better than the tools/d-bags that create computer viruses? Guess what.. you are better! So quit telling people to "put up or shut up" and you do that! Stand up and show us why we are all here in the first place.

  16. Okay, I actually only registered to make some points that clearly need to be made.

    Clearly.

To all those whining "why wouldn't you just download the whole package anyway?" (or variants thereof) - THERE ARE SEVERAL REASONS.

First of all, I ALREADY HAVE ALL THE GAMES I NEED, THANKS.

I ALREADY DOWNLOADED THE ARCADE ROMS - ALONG WITH ANY CONSOLE GAMES I WANT; QUITE HAPPY WITH THEM, AS IT HAPPENS.

    Oh, am I shouting?

PERHAPS THAT'S BECAUSE IT NEEDS TO BE SHOUTED SO IT GETS THROUGH SOME RATHER THICK SKULLS, you think?

Now, maybe you all have ass-kicking internets speeds, and it takes you all of a couple of hours to download 20G, but for me, that would take MONTHS.

Um... for a bunch of ROMS that I (maybe) already have, and an emu that's all of 150MB.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking.

"Dude, you don't HAVE to torrent the whole thing! Just torrent the emu. Sheesh."

Yeah. Maybe I would do that.

    Maybe.

IF THE CREATOR WASN'T REPEATEDLY REFERRING TO "LOCKS" THAT WOULD POSSIBLY EVEN WIPE MY HDD, THAT IS.

As in, yeah, I COULD download just the emu... but then, if I don't have the "full" package - and bear in mind that maybe my set of roms isn't quite the same (chances are it isn't) - then I'm risking lord-knows-what happening (according to the creator himself).

    So... sheesh that, sheesher!

Secondly, maybe I don't have the space? On my HDD? Did you consider that one? No, you didn't. Or you did, and well, screw the likes of me, huh?

Funny how the guys who came in here asking, "what about us poor saps with just stock HDDs - what is it safe for us to remove?" did NOT GET A REPLY. Yeah, screw them, eh? Are they "good people", BP? Would you term them as "good"? You know? The people who just downloaded your stuff and enjoyed it and thought you rocked (operative word there: THOUGHT) and didn't even KNOW there was all this "misinformation" you refer to - are they the "good people" who you are doing all this for? Or are you using "good people" to simply refer to "my mates who all have kick-ass internets speeds and 500GB HDDs fitted already"? If so, any chance you could just be honest about all this, at the very least?

Finally, let me get this all straight. Maybe we could all, I dunno, use this post as a reference point, or something.

Look, lemme get it all down, anyway - even if it is just so I can make a very, very long point.

    BP creates an emu.

    Everyone loves it...

However, some idiots go hacking it - lord knows why, to be honest. Let a cock be a cock, I always say. (Usually at totally the wrong time and place, as it happens - but in this case, I suspect, the context is perfect.)

BP gets annoyed with the support questions relating to the hacked versions - fair enough.

BP decides to install some locks, the implication being that - and I'm waiting to be corrected on this, along with everything I said above - they will screw over those with a slow internets connection and/or a small HDD.

He even suggests - albeit in jest - that they could likely be set to format the HDD. FFS. (Even in jest, by the way, this is unbelievably dim.)

A "hacked" version appears, where someone appears to have gotten around the first "lock".

BP then admits that, in fact, the locks were a bit of a laugh anyway - he set them at "incredibly easy" to get around, and in fact, it was more of a social experiment against the "misinformers".

    Yes?

In other words: you spread misinformation about YOUR OWN EMU - confusing your own userbase to the point where a lot of them can/will no longer use it (I know I won't be updating anytime soon - if ever again)... in order to get back at those who were spreading misinformation about it?

Tell me, are you familiar with the term IRONOTARD?

Tell you what, I'll answer that one for you myself: no. No, you're not. Why? Because I JUST MADE IT UP TO DESCRIBE YOU.

(Seriously, I just checked Google: it doesn't exist. I MADE IT UP. JUST NOW. IRONOTARD STARTED HERE, FOLKS.)

Okay, you know what? I'm willing to admit: maybe I got something wrong up there.

    Maybe.

But I tell you, I've kept up with this thread - updated religiously until EPIC R9 (still think the Emu is awesome, by the way) - and that's the picture I got of what happened so far.

And if it is all true, BP, then not only are you being extremely retarnic (yep, just made that one up for you, too), but you've also brought yourself down to BELOW the level of the cocks you're trying to get back at.

Should I illustrate what I mean? Yes. Yes, I should.

In case you're wondering how best to reply to all this, here are some suggestions for you:

    - Imply I am in some way a noob (incidentally, the 90s called: they want their insults back!)

    - Suggest I am in some way linked to these "extras" guys, and therefore, everything I said was either misinformation or biased.

    - Remember to pick and choose the one or two things in my wall of text that I might have made a mistake on, concentrate on replying at length to just them (while calling me a noob - don't forget that, because it's so cool calling people noobs), and ignore completely anything that was correct and makes you out to be a liar/tool.

    - Point out that everything I've said is either covered in a readme, or you've told others a million times that blah blah blah blah, and I'm being unbelievable dense in not being able to figure all that out.

    - ABOVE ALL ELSE: do NOT actually attempt to speak to me as an intellectual equal, or address my points at all on a sensible level -because I dared to point out even just one of your many failings.

    TL;DR VERSION

Okay... perhaps all that up there will have come across as agressive and angry. Well... that's because it is. I tend to write aggressive, and right now - hell - I'm angry. But... here's the thing. I still dearly love COINOPS. And I still regard you as a troubled genius for continuing to improve it for random strangers on the internets. (I... don't really get why you do, if I'm honest: I know I wouldn't, for one thing.)

The problem is, nowadays, you're coming across as rather more trouble than genius. And because you installed these locks I can't even get to COINOPS 2 to see any of the genius anyway.

And hell, even if I never see any of these updates, I'm quite happy with EPIC R9: okay, I'd like to try out COINOPS 2... but I'll live if I never get the chance. I'll get by. I'd prefer you did remove the locks, of course; hell, I'd prefer you never even hinted at them, as now I'll never really remove the doubt in my mind about you, and what you said about formatting our drives. It's there now. Before all this, you could do no wrong as far as I was concerned. Now? I'll always be thinking: he once said he'd format my drive.

And no, it doesn't matter if "you'd never do that", or that it was a "joke". It's said now. You said it. you can't unsay it.

    I won't forget.

But that's all beside my main point. The point of this post.

The point being: ffs, stop being such a cock.

Okay, so there are cocks out there who want to have a go at you about what you do. I get that. We all get that. We all have to deal with cocks too, you know? HEY, WELCOME TO LIFE ON PLANET EARTH.

But you know what? Here's the thing:

YOU'LL NEVER STOP OTHER PEOPLE BEING COCKS.

    Know what else?

YOU CAN STOP YOURSELF BEING ONE.

And yes, I realise I dragged out the TL;DR version a bit, thanks.

Agreed. This needs to be read. Lots of valid points BP. Take it to heart and don't be offended. This guy clearly cares or he wouldn't have posted that.

    PS. I lol'd @

Point out that everything I've said is either covered in a readme, or you've told others a million times that blah blah blah blah

So true BP :D and you know it. Personal experience lol

  17. Why not put the option under the normally-hidden Advanced Options? If someone toggles showing non-arcade stuff off...they know where the option is...since -they- toggled it.

This. Considering most options reside in the "Advanced Options" menu anyways and you have to enable/disable that, why not put an option to hide console/handheld/arcade roms in the "Advanced Options"? People that are going out of their way to find this option will know how to find it again just like we all do with all of the advanced options. I think the option to hide roms from the browser should be more specific though. Like you can go through the games and tag the ones you want visible or the ones you want hidden and then have the option to enable hiding of games or not. Maybe this seems more viable than unlocking CoinOPS :)

  18. BP I think you should lighten up a little. How many people DL/use CoinOPS compared to the number of people that you say are "misinforming" people? I bet these "misinformants" make up less than .01% of your user base. So why are you punishing the other 99.99% of us? You are letting this all get to your head. Remember why you are doing this: for the fans, the gamers. You wouldn't release this for people to upload and distribute if you didn't do it for us. So why does it feel like you are constantly trying to push the people that care away? I say stand tall, remove the restrictions/locks, and give the people what they want: choice. You will gain more ground, more followers this way than the path you are currently headed.
