  1. flickering - tearing - I'm not sure how to describe it. I've had trouble with other emulators in the past, but they all had a "triple buffering" or "vsync" option that cured it (I'm playing them through my Radeon 9800's tv-out)

I've searched the net and found other's wishing for this feature. One of the drivers has "vsync" but I still get tearing. Limiting the fps to 60 still gives me tearing.

Any ideas? Another PSX emulator that doesn't exhibit this trait? It's especially bad in 2d scrolling games. I can't be the only one this bothers, can I?

    Thanks!

  2. by communist , i was refering to the segrigated utopias, the rich stay rich, the poor get poorer, and middle class slowly declines... especially were i live

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. Many people confuse fascism and communism--or use the terms interchangeably. I thought that might have been the case...

  3. Eitherway, I'm always on the look out for something new.  WHat do you use Prican25 as your newsservice?

Maybe someone with the ability to start polls should start one regarding which news servers people use. I'm very interested too. I use easynews and the retention is great as well. $10(US) for 10 gigs. You can earn more too.

  4. ffynnon, if you're looking for a chip for your box, the best deal you'll find is an Aladdin Advance, which you can get as cheap as $10 (check robotpig.com - they ship 'em to you straight from Asia, cheap as they get).  Depending on your Xbox version, these are either very slightly more difficult to install than the more expensive solderable chips, or just as easy.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of all that research! I appreciate it! =)

  5. Three things

First - thanks so much for making these discs! I can't wait to play them!

Second - I don't actually have an Xbox yet and I want to be ready to use BAED when I do. Is it required to "mod" the Xbox to play these discs? The.nfo doesn't say... I lent one to my friend (who HAS an Xbox) and it just came up "disc unrecognized". I'm assuming it needs to be modded?

Third - which news servers are people using where they're missing 9-14 files at a time? I use easynews and I've never had these problems...

  6. I'll admit I skimmed most of this thread. I've seen it all before...

Something I hadn't seen though, was this article at the NY Times:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/22/magazine/22IDEA.html

Describes why people on the left and right can't fathom why the other thinks the way they do. Interesting hypothosis regarding brain activity.

Liberals tend to have more activity in a particular part of the brain--the part responsible for empathy and fear.

A wise friend of mine with an admirable amount of life experience broke it down for me like this. "There are really only two types of people in this world. People who want to make the world a better place, and the f*ck you crowd."

The longer I live on this earth, I think he's right.

  7. But they do have the fjords!

That's one of the few good things that are in Norway.

wait, what other good things are there?

They're consistently ranked as the best country to live in--worldwide. Cradle to grave health care and free university for starters. Very long life expectancies. Very high standard of living. Lots of unspoiled wilderness if you're into that.

Norway is pretty laid back. I've only been there very briefly, but it's where my family is originally from. It's actually quite nice! :P

(sorry, just felt the need to come to the defence of my grandfather's homeland!)

  8. Well, it looks like the make-your-own BAED is no longer necessary.  Why?  There is CDX menu support in the new Craxtion 4.0. Just download the appropriate emulators from #xbins, throw your ROMs into the specified folders for each emulator, and run the easy Craxtion Wizard to make a multigame ISO out of them.  This makes things MUCH easier from the user's standpoint than if I just packed up a bunch of files and gave them instructions to change configuration options manually.

    Get it at http://www.craxtion.com/

I figure since I've already collected all those emulators, though, that I might as well RAR 'em up and post them all to the newsgroup to save people the effort of getting them individually from #xbins.  Look for that post later today.

NRC, I've been thinking of seeding this out on BT for some time.  I may or may not do so in the near future. I'll post here if I do.  In the meantime, anyone else that has it is free to seed it if they want, of course.

Thanks for RARing them all up! I have a few questions for you...

I don't actually own an Xbox yet, but I wanted to make this disc beforehand.

I noticed in the various.ini files they point to D: and E: drive. Is the D: the Xbox DVD-ROM and E: the hard drive? As long as I create directories (as indicated in the.ini's) and fill them with ROMs, the emulators will see them? Or do I have the drive letters switched?

Is there somewhere that provides a good tutorial? The craxtion forums still don't have tutorials posted. =( Do I add each emulator folder as a 'folder'? and then create the ISO? Is it that simple or am I way off base...

thanks for any (further) help you can provide!

  9. Just picked up a gamecube for $39.99 Canadian, brand new. You can trade in "any" 5 PS2, Xbox or Gamecube games, and pick up a Gamecube system for $39.99. The only catch is that you can't trade in sports titles older than 2003, and no "zero credit" games (like Oni--or a few others they won't trade for).

I didn't have 5 games I wanted to part with so I just bought 4 games at $7-$10 a piece, and then immediatley traded them back in with 1 of my own.

Total cost to me: under $80 Canadian. Sweet sweet deal. Now I just need to track down a cheap Zelda...

    spread the word!
