  1. cheers for everything zhoul.... can you bold the ones that arnt copies of arcades and arnt in my list and good games...i need to refine the lists...also non rpg

I'll go over the list this afternoon. I know there are at least a couple duplicates from your list, like (Cybernator / Assault Suits Valken). That one slipped past me because I don't refer to it by it's Cybernator name.

When you say non-rpg, are you also saying not to include strategy rpg's like Tactics Ogre? You do have some strategy games listed which is why I ask. It's just difficult to know where to draw the line. Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV, for example, is a strategy game that isn't much like Final Fantasy at all, but on the SNES it sort of falls into the same category as FEDA and Fire Emblem, which are considered strategy rpg's. As you see there's some thinking that needs done on where to draw the line.

  2. zhoul I reliased pixel perfect on colse stuff is very easy....so simple as its only one resoultion and I look at madmabs stuff I wouldnt add that as its nothing like coinops....

right now ive locked down a build for testing.... so im working my way though it in the next week...

to submit a game I need a screenshot and the actual coinops name or the name if its isnt in the CoinOPS list....huge lists wont be looked at as I dont have the time

I only use CoinOPS for arcade games, so the lists I was putting together were just to help you out since your current lists are missing some notable games. Maybe someone else can benefit from them. Who knows, maybe some unknown gem like "Ignition Factor," "Umihara Kawase," and "Famicom Detective Club Part II" might surprise a few people.

  3. Ok Brit...

The lists I'm going to share with you are for NES, SNES, Genesis+Addons, and PC Engine. There may be a small number of games you already have listed, but they've been renamed so that they and their sequels share a matching naming convention. I've noticed that you've omitted RPG, Adventure, and most Strategy games from your list, but I've included those for you anyway. This takes time so I'll update each list as time permits.

  4. I really want to get onto the testing phase for now....you are right ive got alot to do...everything is possible its just my time and help is limited

ill think about what you say but its more down to an order of doing stuff..theres so much more that can be done...

maybe you can get madmab to hand over his source for pixel perfect and ill add it if you want....his emulators aparently have this in and he would have thought about more than me...ill put it in if he lets you...just get the cpp off him and ill add it in

madmab's pixel code sounds interesting Brit, but I doubt he'd give me his sources since I've never even spoken to the guy before. Perhaps if someone like Cospefogo or rx (a person he trusts) made the request we'd have better luck with that.

XML locking and button remapping would still be huge improvements even without access to his code, imo. I think a lot of people would be happy with that.

  5. I dont care what emulator you guys use...I use coinops....I have global keymapping code sitting here just needs to be inserted....anyone want the project? its probably only 2-3 hours of work....

trig made it and I just havent inserted it yet

Since I've never ported anything to the Xbox, that's not gonna happen unless I invest significantly more than 2-3 hours of work.

I'll tell you what, though. I can offer to contribute another way and use my time investment more efficiently. If you add in the keymapping code and XML locking, I'll put in an equivalent amount of grunt work. PM me the console game lists you've been putting together and I'll check them against mine and send you a list of those that are of hi-quality and currently unlisted. My knowledge is actually pretty strong in the area of shmups and uncommon classics and I can also send you my updated list beforehand if you don't trust me. Pouring over those lists and copying down names will definitely be time consuming. It was also time consuming putting them together in the first place. ;)

  6. im hinting I wont be changing autofire thats all...and im letting him know there are solutions to do this the way he wants it.....

im telling him its not in my vision.... at present and dont think it will be.... right now I have other dreams and goals....but one never knows...if a few others really wanted this i might thik about it...but at present any other key will get in the way

You already know what feature I've been bugging you about, but yeah, increased flexibility *overall* wouldn't be such a bad thing, would it? Being able to move buttons around would really open things up for those using HRAP, X-Arcade, or other controllers that lack joystick input. Like I said, your defaults are work *great* in most cases, but could use just a little more flexibility.

Besides, isn't it about time CoinOPS finally put hk 128 to pasture? ;)

  7. no hidef...no autoroation...so much is missing...... but he will get history.dat ;)

Keep in mind that some people look to CoinOPS as an all-in-one solution. You're always advertising it this way. Why else have you added support for all these other console systems? Haven't you also mentioned adding dashboard support? Telling him to use an outdated emulator that you've criticized in the past just seems odd, imo.

  8. oh well its coded for the normal user not special occassion types of user so I wont be putting this in...the click buttons are the perfect place to put this feature....I tried a few other types of autofire including like hk just copying it from mame32 sources but I didnt like it done like this so I rethought about how I wanted autofire in and for me its exactly how I want it to work

Brit, what do you have against flexibility? Seriously. I totally understand releasing CoinOPS with your preferred defaults (they're fine I think), but not everyone uses an Xbox controller to play arcade games. I myself own a HRAP and a Magic Box. The HRAP and Saturn controllers are far superior to the stock Xbox controllers, imo. So is Neo's setup.

I imagine also that he prefers to use CoinOPS over the dated hk release which is a compliment to the hard work you've put in it. It's just that you label everyone else normal users, when the truth of the matter is that there are plenty of users who own high quality controllers that they'd like to use with CoinOPS.

  9. use hk 128 version it has the kind of autofire you will like..you can set it up via the ingame osd ;)

use hk 128 version it has the kind of autofire you will like..you can set it up via the ingame osd ... sorted for you

With one caveat: He must be willing to give up features in CoinOPS that aren't present in hk 128. IIRC, hk's last release is quite dated. What if he wants auto fire in Boogie Wings? Is that game even compatible with hk 128? Pixel perfect mode isn't there either, which means he'd be stuck playing games with unnecessary blur.

  10. and for the autofire thing?

edit: nevermind didnt read the whole post

    edit 2: lol "bubble booble"

If BritneysPAIRS gets around to adding the feature that lets us lock .XML settings for each game, you *should* be able to set auto fire for the games that need it without having to mess with it again. Would this be an acceptable workaround for you?

  11. Anyways CoinOPS reignite X will be out soon....in about 4 days of bug bashing...although I cant find any at present

With this being the final release before you move onto a new brand and direction, can you confirm whether XML locking is going to make it into release X? I haven't seen any mention of it so I thought I'd ask.

  12. yes it means you could force it to any mode for any game....no matter what the setting is...like the automatic sound off and all time classics/hot games they can be customised though the xml...also game launchers are run though the xmls

    :D

That would be seriously awesome, man. Many levels of awesome in fact.

  13. I havent thought about it at present....its pretty easy to add..ill talk with some and may get time to add it...all it would do is work like the romstatus.xml and use method in settings if nothing in xml if not it could be set to run a mode...if you like pixel perfect and dont like any overscan choose pixel perfect auto fit and adjust the borders of where it fits yourself :D

Would it be possible for the user to specify in the XML which filtering mode he'd like to use and basically run certain games in classic stretched-to-screen mode? This would be useful for SDTV users who want to make sure ALL of their games fit properly on the screen. Use Pixel Perfect 2x and Point Filtering for games that don't have too much over scan and stretched-to-screen mode and bilinear filtering for games that do.

  14. its ok....im just saying its not really helping this thread ..... its really just saying dont worry about showcase 2.... which is fine to think but is kind of irralivant to the topic at hand which is about doing it

I was responding to megabungle because I thought I could help. What's wrong with trying to be helpful? At any rate, what I posted first was a request for feedback about the XML stuff you mentioned in the other thread. That's what interests me. It's a great idea and I wanted to learn more -- and still do.

  15. Zhoul, my problems with looking for my own roms are manifold. Hard to find the correct version that actually works. And the only way I've found to collect xmvx is in huge rapidshare rars, which I then have to sort through and it wastes bandwidth and (temporarily) hard drive space. And on top of all that, I'm just not a big enough arcade fan to even know the names of games I don't have that are cool. Soul Edge/Calibur, I guess.. Lucky & Wild was an awesome game, but it'd never work on a controller anyways.

If you can free up some space, you might consider grabbing the full CoinOPS set just so you'll have all the roms you need from the get go. That solves one of your problems right there. Then you can whittle down the list if you're willing to put the time in to Google the filenames. Some rom names are pretty obvious when skimming through the list.

Here are a couple good sites to help with putting together a custom list:

    http://www.bmigaming.com/top100arcade.htm

    http://www.arcade-museum.com/TOP100.html

  16. Zhoul no offense but your comments are against the top votes you obviously dont really know that people want Showcase 2 ... I saw the figures for downloads and they kill the stuff you mention....its no offense but you are talking about doing stuff themselves when even rx list was terrible wrong in places and obviously cant setup some stuff in mame....no ones worked out CPS3 stuff for instance :D anyways no offense but please if you want something diff as clearly you do....start a thread start a team, as you know I dont want any part of it :) but best of luck

I know you guys are vocal and passionate but I see what happens generally when stuff is done your way...both in my personal life and also in alot of the figures so ill agree to disagree and keep going my way im happy with the results and it looks by numbers alot are....peace to all of you that want stuff to change and make it happen...with or without me...also you will have the awsome madmab things sometimes I guess best of luck with them im sure they will be all you want and much more

any more of stuff like this zhoul ill tend to skip over it sorry.... no problems setting up your threads I just need to progress with my direction some more :)

You misread my post. Here's what I said:

"With MAME it's probably best just to hand pick your own collection rather than depend on someone else's. The CoinOPS set is a good starting point though, since a lot of the popular stuff is already included."

How in the world did you interpret that as an attack on CoinOPS? I was talking about MAME itself, and then complimented CoinOPS as a good starting point for someone like him who wants to put together his own custom set. Isn't he allowed to delete and add whatever roms he chooses on his own Xbox?

  17. oh well ive tested on many people and they find even exiting games confusing... it cant be filtered as easy or sorted as easy....ive tested it on many people...maybe 50 or so and its just what ive seen...I saw the same thing on FBAxxx that they never found any of the games in the tabs....im only talking about new people....also I found people had massive issues with xport emus and other ones when moving from hd to sd tvs all the time they basically ended up having to adjust there games everytime they moved....they got stuff scrambled and overall they said they didnt like the experience...its just my findings and I listen to the young ones and the non experienced people....just for what I do....and I enjoy it much better as im sure many do

im sure people dont but they can do there own thing really....I wont let clutter and stuff get in the way of playing games and having fun....as it will disapoint the people I do this for and this stuff has been tested on them and they remain pretty much constant to what they want

Exiting games ----> Right joystick button + exit. Not difficult at all.

Sorting games ----> Subfolders. It's simple and works fantastic.

HD to SD switching ----> Buy a second Xbox. Problem solved.

In addition, every game can be centered perfectly, which is no small feat as most other emus can't do the same. When playing Rygar on the NES, you can adjust the turbo setting so his whip gets full extension on every swing. You can even use the start button to attack if you wanted to. The level of customization allows the user to play the games exactly as they want.

I just don't see how it's unfriendly to newbies since most of what they need to learn is accomplished with a simple press of the right joystick button. Since Xport ported most of the emulators on the Xbox, once you learn one you've learned them all. There would be a MUCH bigger problem if every emulator were ported by someone different.

  18. Orig. showcase had ~800 roms. Wouldn't mind seeing 12-1500, but 2000 seems extreme for arcade only.

I'm not bothered by other emulator cores, but I use CoinOps like it was an emulator for coin operated games. I never stuck quarters in my NES...

Skins, meh. Sure why, not. But I'm happy with what you've done so far.

With MAME it's probably best just to hand pick your own collection rather than depend on someone else's. The CoinOPS set is a good starting point though, since a lot of the popular stuff is already included.

  19. .....xport stuff confused the young kids so this is just to play arcade games...

What's so difficult about Xport's gui? Just set it to start up from the rom list and the young kids shouldn't have a problem. Sure, his gui lets the user do whatever the heck they want, but that's because we asked him to put that stuff in there. He always listened and didn't ignore people who just wanted to improve his emulator.

  20. Brit,

Quick question about locking XML settings. Would this allow us to lock one game to use stretched-to-screen settings with bilinear filtering, while allowing others to use pixel perfect x2 and point filtering? In other words, we'd be able to lock in settings for some games with XML, while the rest would default to the settings from the menu. Is this correct?

  21. zhoul ive tried xport stuff and think its bad...I change between hd and sd all the time and I have to resize every game...and I have 4000...also I dont want to resize 4000games.... I might allow xml locking....eg you can tell it to be x2 x3 or pixel perfect fit (where you can set the box size to autofit it to yourself....so it is allways on screen...or overscan....so it will go outside your screensize adjusments but be warned it will crop....Pixel Perfect Auto Fit it will never crop the video ever)

Anyways there are so many modes one can run....monitor on side...10x11 pixel....widescreen correction for sd monitor for cps1 and cps2 (never done before that ive seen).....and soe of these things like monitor on side 10x11 etc require a reboot they arnt just screensizing....

Cheers for stuff rx....I havent looked at them yet but in time ill get around to at least looking at the vids

    good luck

    Brit,

With older versions of CoinOPS, we used to set the screen size one time for all the games and use bilinear filtering to smooth the stretched image. With XML locking -- could I set one game to use that classic stretched mode, while using point filtering and 2x pixel perfect for another? All without having to modify the settings every time I switch games?

If so, I'd say this would be a fair compromise because this gives us the option to run the occasional fussy games in classic mode, while allowing a slew of other games to benefit from pixel perfect mode with point filtering.

  22. Hey Zhoul,

Yes yes, I am absolutely in concordance with you...

But I think BP will not work on that. He already stated that sooo many time before.

Unfortunately we will have to find other ways to achieve our personal goals.

Me, for example, even with this super-duper new pixel perfect CoinOPS, I still keep

6 different installs in my Xbox.

    1. CoinOPS Lucky 7

Covers all games *different* from 320 and 304 pixels in width, and runs

with 10x11 pixel aspect ratio OFF. We have here also the 384 games

with the fix-width trick turned on.

    2. CoinOPS 10x11

Covers all games in *exact* 320 and 304 pixels in width, running under 10x11

pixel aspect ratio. Why that? Simple, 10x11 on 320 games simply clears/fix the

left and right overscan almost perfectly. And why I did add the 304 to

the group? Simple, 304 + 320 are all the NeoGeo games. I wanted to

keep all of them together. It was not good to have Samurai Shodown 1

and 3 in one CoinOPS and Samurai 2, 4 and 5 in another.

Why not having the games from the first group merged here also?

Because the first group games are all narrow than 320 and 304 in width,

and there is no need to make them yet smaller in width by the 10x11

pixel aspect ratio. And one more thing... 10x11 requires emu reboot,

so it's annoying to keep rebooting anytime you need or don't need the 10x11.

    3. CoinOPS Vertical Shmups

A separated CoinOPS with all the shmups that are really vertical, I

mean, the ones that we really need to set to autorotate to be able

to get pixel perfect. Raiden does not fit here because it works

fine on the CoinOPS #1, with acceptable overscan on its top border.

So, as you may notice, I needed to manually separate the topdown

shooters that do not need to be rotated to get pixel perfect

    from this group.

    4. CoinOPS Capcom only

I wanted to separate all the Capcom from the other games to better

check for problems or abnormalities on all 384 trick. And some games

are even playable with 384 fix OFF.

And two more? Yes... I still keep one CoinOPS for Contra and other for Super Contra.

The screen can't be centered for those, it need to bottom positioned.

And they are tooo tall. CoinOPS PixPerfect does not "cover" them.

And I am thinking in implement a 5th one, just for PunchOut and Super PunchOUT.

They are nice games. Will use the same method used for Contra and Super Contra.

Always on the eternal *workaround* when dealing with Arcade Games...

    =D

    Cospefogo.

That's what I mean, Cos. The new system Brit came up with is a fine idea, but you're still running 6 different CoinOPS as a workaround for the lack of per-game settings, right? With per-game settings that number would shrink to 1.

Btw, I love the fact that you found a workaround and shared it with everyone.
