  1. Do you have the full epic?

    I suppose to.

I've downloaded a 19.4gb file "inferno" edition by torrent. I have no idea if it's an "official" version or not.

Later I get the Epic R2..

If there is an official place to get Coinops I still don't know.

  2. pikkey this is xbmc help not CoinOPS help :) no offense thats why it isnt in the CoinOPS readme.....anyway if you stick around this year ill also be doing XBMC which will simplfi everything for you id say

forgive me, you're right, I was off topic, but it still allowed me to reach a goal of mine.

After long searching for infos, I got carried away by the enthusiasm :)

where did you all come from and why so many new users???? ive noticed the other sites have died to nearly nothing now...im curious of where all you people have come from...what sites and why here...and also if you are using the others stuff now (if so why I guess)

    uhmm.. because of the above.

I've discovered Coinops name somewhere , (because I am passionate about and retrocomputing and retroconsole) inside an italian newsgroup , and I guessed it was a great thing.

I've searched and downloaded the main archive but once I was facing on it my difficulties have emerged, having no previous know-how on Xbox and no files explanatory.

4-strokes of google brought me to this forum and ..

Well, time to back between the shadow-readers :D

  3. XreliC: Get rid of those path changes you made and use the path.ini that came with the download. If you're using XBMC this is all you need to do:

    1. Turn on your XBOX and wait until you XBMC boots. You'll see Videos, Music, Progams, Settings, Weather, etc... on the left hand side. If you do not see "Programs" you'll have to add it to your home screen by going to Settings -> Skin Settings -> Home windows -> and enabling "Show programs in main menu" then drop back to the home screen by pressing B two times.

    2. Select "Programs"

    3. Select "Add source"

    4. Select "Browse" and type in the path to your CoinOPS directory. In XreliC's case "E:\Programs\Coin OPS Epic\" but without the quotes.

    5. Enter a name for this media Source. That can be whatever you'd like. e.g. "CoinOPS"

    6. Select "OK"

    7. You'll drop back to the "Programs" folder and you'll see the source name that you just added. For this example we used "CoinOPS"

    8. Select the folder and you'll here the XBOX hard drive chugging and XMBC will pause for a few seconds while it scans the directory for "default.xbe"

    9. Once it's done scanning you'll see the red CoinOPS icon titled "CoinOPS EPIC R2".

    10. Press A on CoinOPS EPIC R2 and it will launch.

You don't need to create any shortcuts to do this. If you have them, delete them.

    Edit: Updated some spelling :D

    tnx tnx tnx!!!!

    Just Thanks.

I hope your post will be included in the future official ReadMe files.

  4. I'm a newbie myself, but it really doesn't get any easier than CoinOPS.

Yes, you must have a modified Xbox. Buy one second hand, and make sure you get one with atleast 100 GB storage, or you'll regret it later. In sweden where I live you'll have to pay around £50 for that.

Download XBMC, burn it to a DVD and run it in your Xbox.

    Unzip CoinOPS Epic.

Delete TDATA and UDATA inder E: on your Xbox.

    Run default.xbe

The steps above I've already done.

after many tests, I already have a running Coinops on my xbox, that I've modchipped , equipped with 120gb hd and a good dashboard.

What I'm not sure about, is if what I did (installing coinops) is correct. I had to reformat the HD few times because trying this and that I made a mess and had to start from zero again.

What I would like to know are the steps to:

**How to make Coinops (default.xbe file) running withous using a file manager to launch it **

Once I get this info (that I didn't found ANYWHERE in the official README file, in this forum and over) I'll be a happy men.

  5. hmmm exactly tell me what you want to do

    Boot CoinOPS though XBMC

CoinOPS only so boot into CoinOPS?

    ill tell you the steps

I would LOVE to know both of them , but you can choose the shorter one.

Your answer will help some other newbie for sure.

    Thanks for your time.

I understand that this is the kind of requests that get boring, so thanks again.

  6. Reboot XBOX got to launch application using the CoinOPS default.xbe what does that mean.....need to boot xbmc then setup up the program / games folder to scan and find default.xbes on E:/Games then launch CoinOPS

    Absolute beginner speaking:

believe me, a reply like that is really precious, because there is no way to understand how Coinops works.

I had to guess that default.xbe is the main file that have to be launch to make appear Coinops main screen, because nothing about that is wrote on any readme file.

After DAYS of hunting for related docs inside this forum or Google, still I don't have idea if what I'm doing (about installing) is correct or not because who wrote about Coinops seems to be people who well know what they do and how to install it, they (rightly) focus on bugs or changes and the searching for basic docs is despersive and frustrating.

anyway, if I have correctly inferred these are the main steps you need to do..:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    -- You must have a modified Xbox (??) :D

-- Install XBMC dashboard on it (or a similar one)

-- Unpack Coinops on your computer.

-- Copy (using ftp) the Coinops main folder inside the largest partition of Xbox (in my Xbox v1.1 the largest is E: )

-- DEFAULT.XBE is the main file that have to be launch to start Coinops

-- If you want Coinops as your main dashboard you have to create a shortcut of default.xbe file ....

(the *how* is this is still a mistery here. Now I'm going to try what you just wrote above..)

...otherwise you can make it run using a file manager, moving inside E:\\Coinops folder and running default.xbe by hand (??) <_<

-- Disable the info tracking to dramatically reduce the game loading time **pressing BACK and START together** and entering in the advanced menu.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    what's wrong/missing?

I well understand the above looks like extremly boring for who of you are use to focus on deeper sides of Coinops,

but unless the philosophy is "less than we are, better is", I hope some simple "coinops for dummies" lines will be added on the README file in next Coinops release.

I would be happy to help in this, but as you can see I still do not know how to do it, and my English is shameful.

Anyway I hope my post will be helpful for someone else, total newbie as me.

For everything else, I have only GREAT COMPLIMENTS to be done. Coinops is a wonderful creation to recycle the old xbox, TNX!! :(

  7. hmmm you dont have to launch coinops though a file manager :D.....

I supposed too, but the "how to" seems to be a secret everyone want to keep till buried :))

is it so tricky to include the coinops default.xbe in a xbox menu?

    I'm using X-wizard 3.1 as dashboard, but I also tested Slayers 2.7...

  8. Pikkey: First off what version of CoinOPS do you have? How big is the package you downloaded? The latest is CoinOPS EPIC at about 18 GB. To "install it" you simply extract the archive and copy over the contents to your Xbox. In your case the F: drive is fine. Using the file explorer to launch the default.xbe is how you run CoinOPS. What happens after you launch the default.xbe? Are you presented with a screen that is showing a video of a game and a list of ~2000 roms? Have you tried launching any of them?

    You right.

I've downloaded Coinops Inferno HD, about 18gb of package.

When I run default.xbe , it make appear the menu with all the arcade games installed, with the demo video running.

Games work, even if it takes too long to start (2 or 3 mins) but right now I'm focused to make a correct installation.

    tnx for the reply!

  9. Just landed here to beg for an answer.

I've discovered Coinops (what a great job!) a month ago, and I realized it was the perfect reason to resume a working XBOX I've found between the trash.

Where I've lost my last nights is about how-where to install it, even because it seem there are no docs about, anywhere on the web.

Everybody talk about a problem or a hint, nobody about install procedure. Or at least, google didn't give them to me.

I only succeed to run coinop installing the entire coinops in a folder on F partition, and using a file explorer to launch the "default" file that make it run the "carousel" but something tell me that's not the correct way to make it work.

So, please is there any guide around about "HOW TO MAKE IT RUN" ?

    Any suggestion are welcome.

    Thanks in advance

    Francesco
