KyokugenKiss Posted September 18, 2004 Share Posted September 18, 2004 there was this fat white guy named Taka who was cosplaying, my best friend (who is japanese) showed me a link a long time ago and he was soo stupid looking that it pissed me off and left a scar, not to mention i generally hate animie freaks/cosplayers who are generally caucasian and go as far as to givethemselves japanese nicknames....theres somthing just not right about the whole thing.... Btw, the I personally believe the spirit of cosplay is the effort and affection towards the "cosplayed" character, before we can handle the resemblence. I mean, resemblence is an important factor, but lets face it: if that was the only criteria for cosplaying, we're not going to have many cosplayers. Now, if a person barely knows about the character and did a shoddy, simple dress-up, that is something to be criticized, no matter how they look alike or not. But, if a person is caucasian and still does remarkable research on the character from the most smallest ornaments to the mos detailed costume, I think the cosplayer, whether resembling the character or not, deserves credit as a good cosplayer and finally a dedicated fan. Besides - most of you guys on here are not the type who can criticise cosplayers - sure you may not dress up like video game characters, but you still have regular debates on "who's the best video-game boxer/wrestler/interior decorator?" Not that I'm criticising, because I know what it's like to be really into games. But so are the cosplayers, and that was this girl's only crime. Bottom line, even if you do make fun of cosplayers (and I do understand that there's a deal of humour to be had there) don't make fun of someone for DYING!
