ISP Complaint?

Recommended Posts

I received this complaint from my ISP, can anyone tell me what exactly this is and what to do to prevent it, the only software I use to access other user's PC's is DC++, I have been using this for months now, and now a complaint???

I'm sure it cant be this since a user would understand that to share I have to access thier computer through DC++.

heres the complaint:

I have received a complaint regarding the "port scanning" of another

internet user's computer. On investigation, I have found that this

originated from your account.

Port scanning occurs when a computer looks for ways to gain access to

another computer on the internet. I realise that you may not know that

your computer is doing this. It's possible that your computer has been

infected by a virus that spreads to vulnerable computers by port

scanning. You may have been a victim of someone using port scanning techniques

to deliberately gain access to unprotected computers.

I suggest you install anti-virus software, or upgrade existing

anti-virus software, then run it to clean your entire system. You may also wish

to consider installing a firewall to prevent unauthorised access to

your computer.

Sorry, but we're obliged to point out that further similar problems may

have to lead to the termination of your account, as such activity

contravenes our Acceptable Use Policy.  Please note that, should your

account be closed as a result of contravention of our Acceptable Use

Policy, you will still have to pay any sums owing under the terms of your

contract with us.

Since this email I have installed Norton Antivirus 2004 and ZoneAlarm Firewall, I'll just have to wait and see if thats enough to stop it.

Can anyone shed any light on this, cheers
