@Elazul... Have you looked at most of the Genesis Library? Or the NES? or SNES? or Gameboy? Most of the games on these systems were CRAP, save for the jems. I mean, look at Battletoads on the Genesis, or Pit Fighter, or Ahh! Real Monsters. They were all made with money in mind.

Most games today, as well, are made with money in mind, but at least the price of MAKING the game can keep some HORRIBLE companies from trying to make a game without a game at it's core.

Anon.

THose games you spoke of at the time were considered pretty original and fresh. And all those games were very successful.

Why do you think video game company's go into business. Without thinking about money, they go out of business.

Ah yes. I remeber that...but I was more anxious to watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Saturday mornings used to mean something. I mean...PeeWee's Playhouse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Smurfs. All the good stuff.

And I remember actually renting games...I haven't rented a game since I rented Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. Now everyone just buys games (or pirates them ;)) Do any of you rent games?

Blockbuster is like 5 dollars a game so that's absolutely not worth it. For five bucks you can get a cheap hooker give you cleavand steamer.

Anyway, games back then were special because they were relatively new. Also, we were still the first console playing generation then. Now you got all these Pokemon, pseudo-Anime crap watching 9-13 year olds who think a footgame drastically improves each year. I mean, the best footgame is still the original Tecmo Football game for the NES. I'm not perpetuating the sterotype that all kids that age are morons, I mean some of you here are that age. But you are the more advanced and cultured gamers. ;)

Sure every now and then an awesome game comes out now, but back then everything was like "WHOA!! I have to get that! That's so cool and innovative!"

Now I'm like, "Oh they added more pixel shaders, meh. Cube mapping, bump mapping, alright seems cool."

But that's just me.

I tottally agree wit you GryphonKlaw, b4, you just go to touyrus, as for example, pick a game by the cover and enjoy, today you just watch the reviews, the graphics, the sounds, so many things..., i still remember as it was yesterday the launch of mario 3, so many people waiting for that game, i was punished cause i took 20 bucks from my brother to complete the 50$ that it costed or the ninja gaiden games, do u remeber GryphonKlaw how people talked about that game? it was at that time as if you were watching a movie, of course, play that today is like a joke, but still, so many memories, so many great time at my friend house.....

Games are still games...

All games are made with money in mind. There are no renegade-socialist-I-want-to-make-a-free-game-for-the-people companies. It's all about profit and how to get it.

LOL dude there are tons of people who make homebrew games, and they arent in it for the money. look at beats of rage...

buuuut, without getting into semantics, this is why i modded my xbox. i refuse to pay for these new POS games. where games used to be about having fun, they are now about hype and marketing, flops and GOTYs. i just dont give a flock anymore.

Yes yes I do. I remember, we had only one magazine and that Nintendo Power. That was THE magazine to check for pictures and news. I remember looking at pictures and reading the text and pretending that I was playing the game.

One of my friends was lucky enough to get Mario 3 the day it came out so that weekend was pure bliss. Games back then had the same amount of gusto as the LOTR movies.

Me and my friends were more into Castlevania but Ninja Gaided was ultra cool too. I do remember the first time I played Sonic at the Macy's electronic department. I was hooked. It was so different and fun. Just amazing.

AND HOW COULD I FORGET TRANSFORMERS!!!! /me grabs hair and pulls

Dammit, class time.

Now that you mention NP i remember whe my friend bought the NP edition that had zelda´s walktrough, we were stuck at some place and we had not idea what to do until a couple of weeks later NP brought the walktrough with it, now, you can find everything on the internet, i just wish that only for a day i could go back in time, just for a day.

Castlevania, what can i say, i couldn´t EVER beat castlevania 1, the original one, i got stuck with the death guy, then came #2 wich i consider one of the best, it was really fun and then #3 and so until today, i haven´t missed anu castlevania, i just love them all. You know wha,t when i get home i´m gonna grab one of those movies that i recorded at that time with some games endings like Faxanadu, Rygar, Megaman, etc, just to remember how great was that time.

And you know what i´m really glad to have met an old gamer like me....

My friend had a power glove for his NES. He barely used it. He only used it for landing the plane in Top Gun, because he thought it was easier that way, rather than using the gamepad.

I miss the old days. Games were actually...EXCITING...back then. *sniff*
