What would you do if? [Game-Simulation]

Recommended Posts

Greetings All!

I bring to you today a fun new game I would like to try.

General Guidelines:

The game is quite simple, what would you do in the event of catastrophe? This is a survival guide planned by you. The rule's are simple, survive and do all you can to keep your group alive. You are given the option of 10 members for your team, you can choose from these members down below. After choosing your 10 members give a brief reason to why you have chosen them. The next thing is how you will utilize your team, you could have them focused on their job all day long but this would not be entirely beneficial as a soldier standing guard every day does not pass on the knowledge to others for combat, or a chef does not teach others how to cook. Also remember to keep this realistic. The event hasn't happened but it would need to be a survival guide as if it really did happen.

Project Details:

Scenario’s: Earthquake, Tsunami, Collapse of the Government, Invasion (Human), Invasion (Alien), Global Warming, Viral outbreak (pandemic), Nuclear, Atomic, Zombie outbreak, Impact Event.

Regions: Florida, California, Hawaii, Tokyo, Beijing, Crimea (Russia), Nevada (desert)

In most occasions specialized tools will only be available for the specific types of jobs that can use it. You would not be able to say that you have a tank unless you have a soldier to drive it. Some tools that are more common like a hammer can be used. Realistic tools only, if you have request for a specific tool and do not know if it would qualify please PM me.

Episode One:

Scenario: Zombie Outbreak (you knew this would be the first!)

Region: Los Angeles County, California

Population: 9.9 Million

Initial Reports state that the viral outbreak occurred early in the morning on March 31st 2014 in Los Angeles County. It appears that after years toxic waste being dropped in the LA River that the radiation and poisons in the water caused a mutation which chemically changed some parasites into a mutating viral carrier. On the day in question a hobo decided to go for a wash down in the river. Its not very sanitary to do, but he's already crazy! This unfortunate mishap resulted in the hobo being bitten. The virus instantly mutated as the creature it was most used to, a leech is completely different. The virus knew only one thing, sucking blood. This was the first instance that it became an issue, because blood is contained in the body the hobo's newly acquired taste required him to get blood any way possible. The hobo attacked an maimed a woman walking down the street. He struck the carotid artery and the woman bled out in under a minute. The virus inside mutated further to lust for not only blood but flesh. The hobo's weak mind attempted to fight back, thats when the virus realized it did not need a living host to fulfill its desire. The woman rose back from the dead follow closely by the hobo which has now joined the ranks of the undead. The virus quickly spread to as many hosts as it could replicate as a virus often does. Mutating as many times to ensure its survival as possible. Meanwhile....

Within 6 hour of the out break the numbers have already climbed into the millions. it's already begun spreading to other counties and soon will spread to other states and countries. Within another 3 hours it will have already quadrupled its numbers. There are very few things short of bombing cities that the government can do at this point. The military has attempted to attack the situation but has lost a great deal of troops. Its uncertain if they will be able to get a hold on the situation. One thing is certain they will not bomb the cities. And no person/animal is safe. This virus can jump to any living or even dead thing to reanimate.

Zombie's attributes: They move fast. Their instincts are to kill, feed and replicate. The transformation takes less than a minute and in some instances as short as 10 seconds. There is no coming back. Cutting off the limb does not ensure safety.

How will you survive?

Please make sure you format your responses using the template below:

Episode One

The Beginning

(Give a description for why you chose these professions on your team.

(Remember you must figure out your most important requirements to survive. Shelter, water, food. How will you obtain these and what will you do to secure them?)

(Everyone needs a specific role for their shift. You can overwork people but to keep morale high so that no one is pulling too much weight try to make each person on the team do different supportive roles to ensure everyones overall satisfaction.)

I will post the second part of this next monday. Please make your posts before this time. If this thread receives no responses I will have it deleted. See my response down below for how your response should look.

Thank you!

Zombie attack in California. Nice! Just what the place needs.

Honestly this seems a bit over-complex for a game... but then again I don't play any of the online ones.

If I was a train driver, for example, how is that relevant to the scenario? Do I get to run over zombies in a gory splash of blood? I guess I've missed the point of what I'm supposed to do.

My strategy (if I lived there): leave in a hurry.

Episode One

The Beginning

Scenario: Zombie Outbreak (you knew this would be the first!)

Region: Los Angeles County, California

Population: 9.9 Million

1. Soldier M - Because it's very important to have someone capable of killing. Not everyone is psychologically prepared for this and in some instances may not pull the trigger. Their battle knowledge is important and would be required to survive.

2. Hunter M- As time goes on it could become more difficult to find food. Animal's will be evasive and can get away from these zombies. A hunter will help with tracking and killing prey, it also doesn't hurt to have another trigger finger on the team. Can also be used for income (skins/meats)

3.Chef F- unfortunately in these circumstances it will be difficult to obtain ingredients, however a chef will do their best to make the most of it and provide proper sustenance to the group. This will also help to keep morale high. Plus they know how to use a blade. Can also be used for income (making food to sell if there is extras)

4. Salesman M- While the idea of interacting with people is not ideal in these situations it may become necessary to barter for supplies as time proceeds on. Having someone that can sell a product is important too.

5. Farmer F - Organic vegetables will become more of a thing in this instance, this person was always very prepared and carries around tomato and corn seeds. Capable of planting into pots for mobility purposes. Source of income (grows vegetables that can be sold if necessary)

6. Chemist M- Has the potential to create items that can be used for healing or destructive purposes. Gun powder, alcohol, you name the chemical they can probably make it. Source of income (can make bombs or medicine)

7. Nurse F - Knows how to treat wounds and prevent infections. Chances are in a situation like this they will end up becoming more important than doctors. If you are injured to the point where you need a doctor chances are you are already dead. (You would not want to use this as a source of income as you do not want others knowing shes a nurse or being in a vulnerable situation)

8. Auto Repair Mechanic F- You may need transportation, and someone will need to maintain the transportation for you so that it doesn't break down at the worst possible time.

9. Structural Engineer F - You will need to see shelter, and upon finding shelter you will want to prevent any weaknesses from the outside. They can also help to fortify the location.

10. Electrician M - If I find a generator or some solar panels I will have someone that can get them all fixed up and working.

Its important to first find a secure location to hold up in. Someplace not easily accessible. My first strategy would be to find an apartment building with stone steps. The reason behind this is that if I take a sledge hammer and break out the steps at each stair well then the zombies cant follow me. The con's of this are that it can take a bit of time as these stone step blocks are rather thick. Advantages are that I will have access to all of the apartments from the second floor up and all of the stuff that may be in them. I will have to move cautiously to clear the building of zombies but after I've finished no more zombies can get up. I will have food/water from all the apartments that I have access to. In addition there may be more apartment buildings near by.I will have access to the ground floor via the railing (the railing will remain but the steps will be gone you can side step up and down the railing. If zombies start to horde around I can take a knife and a broom and clear my way. This can offer a lasting sanctuary against zombies. Finding an apartment building inside of a gated community with these is more idea as you can fortify the outer gates to provide double protection.

My soldier would train 3 members of my group for 3 hours every day. Each day they would rotate so that by the 6th day everyone's had 6 hours of combat training. The 7th day would be a day to relax. The Chef would train the other 3 females for 2 hours to assist with cooking and learn to use the ingredients they have on hand. The hunter would provide security checks around the compound daily. They would also trap certain locations to prevent people from gaining the advantage over others. Each member of the team is required to stand watch 2-3 hours each night posted in different locations but visually across from each other to provide coverage of the entire area. The salesman's time will be to prepare any items that can be sold or bartered for. He will scavenge when possible through the apartments to ensure all items of necessity are being used. They may also keep inventory to provide use to everyone in limited amounts (rationing). The farmer will look for the best location in the building to plant their vegetables, if possible they will try to breed animals that are contained (pet rabbits and such) to provide safe meat. This may end up being the roof which will require some building to provide waterproofing support in case of gusts of wind or rain. The structural engineer can help with this as well as provide suitable upgrades to the compound for security reasons. The chemists immediate goals will be to create medicine to prevent additional illness from spreading between the team. At a later time the chemist will start teaching others (especially the nurse) how to mix these chemicals to provide options for the team. The nurse will spend a majority of her time learning other roles but will also perform check ups regularly. It is very important to have each member of the team examined at the very least every 3 days. With how the virus moves between animals and humans a bird bite could result in a zombie. The auto repair mechanic will spend most of his time learning from the structural engineer to assist with upgrades. Having the knowledge of how to assemble parts and fix cars gives him a learning edge to help with compound upgrades and if need be he can utilize parts from cars to do so. The structural engineer will need to closely examine regularly. Similar to the hunter although to make sure there are no structural weaknesses, this is to prevent attacks from humans and zombies alike. They will potentially partner up with multiple team members to accomplish goals quicker. The electrician will try to salvage and mechanical devices that he can. He found a chainsaw with out a chain, it run on electric but maybe he can rig that motorcycle battery to it?

Feel free to pick which ever occupations are available on the list. Unfortunately you can only take 10 people so make sure you get what you need. Its almost impossible to have everything you could need within 10 people but do your best.

Episode One Cont'd

  1. Hunter M — the avid outdoorsman will prove invaluable in the way of resources for nutrition
  2. Farmer F — sustainable sustenance will allow for a projected rate of survival, easing the burden of scavenging
  3. Nurse F — no doomsday event is not without injury -- survival in numbers requires health and livelihood
  4. Auto-Mechanic M — mobility is equivalent to avoiding death
  5. Military Strategist M— conflict is inevitable in a world without civilization and to be smarter = living to fight another day
  6. Detective M — the presence of authority and justice will offer a sense of protection and safety, despite the hazards
  7. Chemist F — firearms and hand-to-hand weapons are not the only means of combat
  8. Welder M — durability in gear is not infinite; from weapons to reinforcing barricades, metal is the material of choice
  9. Self-Defense Instructor F — training is important to deal with the harsh realities of survival in a world where it's kill or be killed, or eaten ...
  10. Mortician M — in a time where death is around every corner, grieving properly and dealing with death is a responsibility we need not shoulder ourselves (obviously taking a liberty here)

My strategy for survival in a zombie ridden Los Angeles is simple; Mobility. There is no place anybody can bunker down for too long, and a group must be ready to relocate on a moment's notice. That said, however, a group should strive to locate and occupy ideal locations for intermittent survival. My first location is thus; the group will make their way toward Griffith Park Observatory located on Mt. Hollywood. It is an elevated, fortified structure with enough room for quarters, ground for farming, surrounding foliage for hunting, and trails to get in and out should the situation arise, while keep us at a distance from the ground-level mayhem. The included amenities of gift shops and communications equipment will offer much in the way of supplies and ways to plan future objectives.

Cell Members & Duties:

  • Cell 1 (Transport):
    • Auto-Mechanic + Welder
      • Supply runs will obviously be a factor, and the Auto Mechanic will be in charge of vehicle maintenance, along with the Welder to assist in parts management and repairs.

  • Cell 2 (Provisions):
    • Hunter + Farmer
      • The Hunter will make daily trips in the local wooded areas with the Farmer (or whoever available at the time excluding the nurse) for game such as squirrel, bird, snake, rabbit, and deer should we be so lucky, while maintaining alertness for intruders and the infected.
      • The Farmer will use the garden adjacent to the entrance of the Observatory as land for growing crops; mainly carrots, lettuce, radishes, tomatoes, beans, and corn (ideally along with a few chickens that are fed corn).

  • Cell 3 (Defense & Fortification):
    • Military Strategist + Chemist
    • Welder (Adjunct)
      • The Military Strategist, along with the Chemist and Welder, will inspect all grounds of the Observatory and make appropriate defenses and fortification along with chemical means at the ready such as smoke bombs, pepper spray, and a deadly gas concoction of bleach and formaldehyde (the Mortician will provide) which is lethal.

  • Cell 4 (Patrol & Training):
    • Detective + Self-Defense Instructor
    • Hunter (Adjunct)
      • The Detective and Self-Defense Instructor, on top of regular patrol duties along the Observatory rooftop, will operate in weekly firearms and weaponry training for all members of the group, four times a week, while providing munitions inventory and armory stockpiling.
      • The Hunter will assist in training and marksmanship, in addition to knowledge in skinning and trapping game.

  • Cell 5 (First-Aid & Disposal)
    • Nurse + Mortician
    • Chemist (Adjunct)
      • The Nurse will remain on-site at all times so as not to risk herself to exposure, and be ready to treat any members in the course of their duties, with a list of supplies on-hand and those needed to provide services during supply runs.
      • The Mortician will provide emotional support in times of death related grief, while primarily disposing of the dead and assisting the Chemist and Nurse in their duties either in mixing chemicals and treating the wounded.

Addendum ... to be cont'd. In the meantime:

Episode 2:

The Middle

Scenario Details:

The zombies have overrun all potential escape possibilities at this time. It is now vital to build the best defenses you can. Having been neglected for the past couple weeks all public utilities that were left running have all gone offline. The water reservoir has run out from overuse and the lack of water going back into the reservoir. Most grocery stores have been picked pretty clean, although houses still have plenty of supplies. The risk of infection has become a greater threat as most animals have been infected. It appears that ticks and fleas are also capable of carrying the virus. Hunting at this point is not much of an option because of the risks involved.

To live you must grow your own crops. Canned meat is the only safe meat. However if you managed to build a clean room you may still be able to store some livestock in there to prevent fleas and ticks from getting to them/you. I suggest rabbits as they are the easiest to breed and can multiply rapidly. Fishing is still an option at this time however this would require a boat and for you to have access to the sea.

Stage two requirements:

All teams are expected to have one pregnancy within the first year. You will need to choose which people are paired up as a couple, or if your society will be polygamists. You will need a defensive system capable of repelling zombies and humans. As well you still need to watch out for animals and ticks/fleas. This is one very nasty virus and there's not much combating it to prevent the virus from spreading. Think of new ways to prevent the spread to your team.

Underlying Facts about the virus:

1. Spreads through contact therefore it can only be spread via contact with an infected.

2. Infection can happen through minimal contact of the skin. The virus does not require contamination of the blood to infect you any longer.

3. The virus does not seem to be effective in water as it has not breached the oceans although has spread to every continent.

4. Once infected the transformation happens very rapidly. Even cutting off limbs does not seem to be effective in preventing the infection.

5. Animals are also affected by the virus and become hostile instantly. Birds have been known to kamikazi animals and humans as a means to infect them.

Discoveries about the virus since Episode One

As the virus kills its hosts to ensure full obedience it seems the virus cannot sustain itself in a dead host infinitely. The virus actually eats cells inside the host to make room for replication. This is also the double edged sword for the virus as the host no longer makes cells to fuel this. The bodies will eventually give out and burst killing the virus. Unfortunately this takes approximately 3-6 months to happen. It could take even longer if the host finds a supply of new cells via an animal/human to infect.

They discovered that the virus effectively gives a concentrated burst of contagion when it comes into contact with the target. Almost as if the virus pushes all of itself to one point just to put as much of the virus into the target. Unfortunately with the virus adaptability it does not appear that this will always be the case or that the host will continue to die off the way they have. The truth of the matter is, within the time it takes for the host to decay enough for the virus to die humans would already be nearing extinction.

Tips for survival:

While it is almost certain death no matter what you choose at this point there are still options to keep your team alive. Although these options may be difficult to obtain you may want to look at living on or in the sea (submarine or boat) or by living in the sky. Buildings could be built in a way to prevent exposure from the ground such as stilts or cables. These do male you susceptible to humans that are not infected though. You would also need to create a defense to protect yourself from birds. In addition moving around constantly on a train can prevent the infection from spreading. Would need to be steam powered which means you need coal.

All jobs have a secondary trait that is unveiled in episode 2. Since it would be unnecessary for me to give every job that was not used a trait I will instead only release the traits of the used jobs.

  1. 1. Hunter M — Great marksman, can repair most firearms and make bows out of wood. Misfired a gun a while back and although the wound is healed he cannot run as fast.
  2. 2. Farmer F — Very talented at growing, she was born with a green thumb. Has a weak immune system, and requires medicine frequently to prevent illness and infection from minor cuts.
  3. 3. Nurse F — A bit of a drama queen. She tends to whine and complain constantly. She keeps wishing to be back on her couch drinking wine. Her negativity impacts the rest of the team. They spend as little time with her as possible.
  4. 4. Auto-Mechanic M — Used to be addicted to meth. He's very intelligent when it comes to cars. But car smarts is about all he knows. He's the oldest in the group at age 50. May have defective semen from years of drug abuse.
  5. 5. Military Strategist M — Considered a prodigy, barely 25 years old yet very accomplished. Has no genetic flaws. Perfect in every way shape and form. Feels somewhat responsible for what has happened.
  6. 6. Detective M — Although hes a detective, hes gun shy, he accidently shot and killed a kid a year ago and hasn't recovered from it. They may be zombies, but he hesitates because of flashbacks.
  7. 7. Chemist F — Very attractive. Had ovarian cancer and had her ovaries removed so she is unable to birth children. This bothers her greatly, but she would still be great to have around to raise children.
  8. 8. Welder M — Suffers from a slight mental disability. This disability makes him slower and so while he is capable of handling most minor tasks he would be incapable of leading any team.
  9. 9. Self-Defense Instructor F — She was an incredible martial arts teacher at her old dojo. When the apocalypse happened she was the one you saw punting heads off of zombies. Has a very high endurance although it would make your situation harder if she were to be pregnant as she would no longer be able to punt. Better set up some great defenses :P
  10. 10. Mortician M — Highly intelligent, while he may not be the most menacing force morticians know the best ways to dispose of bodies, which helps since you're fighting zombies. He helps to keep disease from spreading. Although he is tall, dark, and well maybe not handsome he definitely gives your group variety.
