All 4 cores can still be utilized, there just isn't currently much if anything that will make use of the 4 cores in a seperate nature (For example, a game using 1 core for physics calculations and the others for different things). Future proofing it is. DDR3..........hrmm, I haven't seen much of it yet to decide if the performance yield is worth the extra buck. Good to get a board that will support it, and maybe buy DDR2 for the time being (Should be backwards compatible, but check in case) I don't do NvIdia, I can't answer this question. (Some people tell me go intel because they are above the market atm, but then others tell me AMD is better suited for gaming? aside that, for some reason my brain connects Intel to Nvida and AMD to ATI, is my brain doing a common sense thing or just assuming?) O and to answer Don's What do I want out of it? I want to be able to run Crysis on max, and be ready to run games like "Guild Wars 2" when released, monitor is optional but I know that I wont be happy unless I get a decent widescreen one with a pair of either logitech gaming gear (mouse/keyboard) or RaZer, and a kick ass headset to go with it (I plan on doing heavy vent) and make them fit all under the 2k budget. If I can't run Crysis on max under that budget then tell me my dreams are false, so I can go ahead and start picking out decent parts for a computer that can run games coming out for at least 3-4 years . GodPigeon Posted September 24, 2008 Share Posted September 24, 2008 If you want a Computer that can run Crysis on Max then get the Intel Dual LGA Skulltrail Mobo, 3 Nvidia 280s with Tri-SLI, 2 Intel Core 2 Extremes, 8GB of DDR3 RAM and Liquid Cooling. You should be Set to go. lol My computer is a Budget computer and can Run Gears of war Maxed out completely, and has completely run thru any other game ive thrown at it at Max settings as well and it was under $1000, if youre willing to add another $1000 then i guarantee you should be set for 3-4 more years. I Believe this computer i have now should be good for about 2 more years, but my Mobo supports AM2+ for Quad core and i can just upgrade my Video card at any time. Sadly enough my Mobo is built for Crossfire so i cant SLi =[ But in that case i COULD just buy 2 ATI 4870s and use Crossfire If i Replaced this mobo, i would upgrade to support both DDR3 and DDR2 and go for Intel I built this PC; i have the ability to upgrade at any time in the near/far future.And at this point i bought items at budget prices because the gaming industry is moving too fast, the 9800 came and went VERY QUICKLY, what was once a $600 card went down to a $200 card, imagine if i wouldve spent all that money and it gets outdated. Im glad everyone talked you out of it. It'll get done man... you just gotta get through this initial "what the hell will go with what" phase. Diso Posted September 24, 2008 Share Posted September 24, 2008 If you're going to custom build one yourself by ordering all the parts separately and then putting it all together, I would recommend being patient and check out newegg and/or deal sites. Computer component prices fluctuate in price and you'll be able to save some money if you wait a while. The responses are right though that you dont need to go overboard with the most recent parts. I upgrade my computer once every 2 years or so and I usually spend a maximum 300 on it. Then again, I'm not much of a graphics person so I don't bother with the higher end parts.
