The PSP and the Dreamcast

Recommended Posts

Abolutely not, especially in the anti-aliasing department, something the Dreamcast was VERY good at.

There's really only 1 (Or rather 2) game to compare directly, and that's Powerstone Collection on the PSP, to the 2 Powerstone games on Dreamcast........there is no comparison.

Then you could compare the visual quality of the Metal Gear games on PSP, to my favorite similar type game on the Dreamcast, Headhunter. Again, there is no comparison, Headhunter is a FAR better looking game.

From a simple "numbers" comparison, it's just not possible anyway. But not for the reasons that you would think.

PSP Specs

CPU - MIPS R4000-based; clocked from 1 to 333 MHz

GPU - (UNK?) 2 MB onboard VRAM running at 166 MHz

RAM - 32 MB main RAM and 4 MB embedded DRAM.

Dreamcast Specs

CPU - 200 MHz Hitachi SH4 RISC

GPU - 100 MHz PowerVR2 CLX2 8MB

RAM - 16MB with 2MB dedicated to the sound processor

Now, while the Dreamcast looks less powerful on paper, it's processors have a larger instruction set and superior capabilities. It's GPU also, while lower clocked, boasts 4X as much ram and greater capabilities than that of the PSP.

Just remember for next console generation, while Sony and Microsoft (And hopefully Nintendo, sadly) are boasting about their systems on paper........paper specs mean NOTHING. I just gave you proof, right?
