This ISP has been rated 'G' by the state of Utah

As a politically and socially conservative state, Utah has been at the forefront of many attempts to keep objectionable material away from the eyes of children. The latest attempt comes in the form of a bill introduced into the state House of Representatives that would give ISPs who block access to objectionable material the equivalent of a "G" movie rating.

HB 407, introduced by Rep. Michael Morley ®, would designate some ISPs as "Community Conscious Internet Providers" if they meet certain criteria. In order to be certified as a CCIP by the Attorney General's office, an ISP would prohibit its customers by contract from posting pornography or other material that's harmful to minors. Customers of the G-rated ISP would also be prevented from reaching what the bill refers to as "prohibited material."

It sounds innocuous enough, but there are some troubling aspects to the legislation as well. ISPs wanting to get the CCIP designation would have to keep track of IP addresses used by their subscribers for at least two years after they were first allocated. In addition, they would be required to cooperate fully with any law enforcement agency seeking to identify one of their customers. CCIPs would also need to respond to anyone complaining about porn or other objectionable content still accessible via its network.

This will never work and hopefully will not get passed. And isn't Utah the Mormon state with many wifes allowed. We can have 12 wifes but no porn I guess..lol.

Utterly stupid. Haven't they got better things to do, like helping out poor people or something?

They are helping poor people. They're helping them stay on the one true path, rather than wander off into darkness. At least, I'm sure that's what they had in mind, the nuts.

I feel that I must take this chance to be the only apparent defense for the Mormons. My mother happens to be a Mormon, and she has provided the real truth for half truths such as these. The law used to allow for multiple wives, but that law has changed and nowadays only 1 wife is allowed.

yep religion bashers should learn facts before slinging mud. Mormons are only allowed 1 wife. multiple wives went out along time ago and most mormons didn't have multiple wives when it was allowed.

as for the news story. I don't like them keeping IPs and logs. but I will tell you I'd pay extra for a porn free IPS if it were possible. there is nothing worse then when your daughter is googling Barbie and gets a hard core porn site.

Problem is you try to filter porn and you block things like some young girl trying to do a book report on cancer of the breasts cause she can't see the results of the search engine. No software can filter porn to the extent to be effective. This would have to be done by hiring people just to watch the traffic of users and no ISP should have that power or use it to filter what you see on the internet.
