I recently discovered you can get refurbished G3 and G4 12 inch ibooks for under 350. those would run circles around the Eee I'm about to get a 12 inch ibook g3 for 200 bucks just to use as a web browser by the couch.

Oh, wow. Now that would be good for someone like me who wouldn't invest over 1k on an Apple Laptop. Got a link to these deals?

http://www.lowendmac.com links to other places.

http://www.ebay.com I won a bid for 180 bucks but the guy hasn't contacted me yet..

you'll see they are all around the same prices. you usually have to add an airport card for anywhere from 40 to 70 bucks for wifi.

Can you install the latest Mac OSX on these laptops?

Is Leopard the latest and greatest OS for Mac? How old is it if it's not?

I just did a quick look. it appears 10.4 'tiger' is as high as you can get. which is one version behind leopard which is the newest. with a new update coming soon called 'snow leopard'

but for surfing the internet, running openoffice and stuff like that do you really need the latest OS?

I just wanted to report I got my ibook. so far so good, learning about osx is different but I haven't run into any major problems.

i got the ibook for 180.

an airport card for 40

and 512mb more ram for 38

total 258 bucks and another 20 for shipping.

not bad for a decent small lappy that runs circles around the Eee. I may work on a review later once I've had some real time with the ibook.
