Top 10 Fighter games of all time

Well, we don't have to compare the very first Street Fighter II. How about the revised Super Street Fighter II Turbo that came with Street Fighter Anniversary? If we think about it that way, then I still stick with my stance that the game is better than SF3rd strike. The soundtrack for the original SF2 series has yet to be matched to any other fighting game IMO (except Street Fighter EX2 Plus) as well. SFII is a true 2D fighting game and it revolutionized every other fighting game thereafter. You can never deny the founding father. :P

(SFAnniversary's SFII is HSF.)

Uh, no. Besides your tastes are horrible when it comes to fighting games. 3s is the defining moment in the SF series as a whole as it brought a new system that is simply one of the best and most refined fighting game systems ever developed. HSF's system is still broken, as it kept ALL the bugs from previous final revisions. And it's sytem is still not refined enough. Or maybe it's because you suck at 3s I dunno.

Man, T3?!? Why not T5: DR instead. If they choose VF5, they should choose T5: DR. Also, Killer Instinct?!? Suckso. And I agree with GC.

SF2 should be the best ever. It is the only one that really capture the imagination, and the wallet that time.

I'll tell you why. People have put tons of quarters into it, as oppose to TDR. Sure TDR is doing well, but majority says T3 is still the best. VF5 on the other hand is welcomed to take the top spot from V4FT.

I suck at 3s? If I recall, I beat you numerous times in a row while we played Kaillera. Now I'm not saying I'm anywhere near as good as Magnis, but I can still whoop your ass any day of the week. :P

Speak for yourself, before you speak of others. :P

Let's go then. Also we played on Good NOT Excellent connection. Which puts me at a sever disadvantage on Good.

before I watch this and get pissed off is this a list of what IS the top ten fighting games RIGHT NOW, or is it another stupid list where they try to take things like impact on the gaming community into account. Which simply can't be done fairly.

They basically go through every half-decent fighting franchise in history and pick the best game from it. Its not very fair- I think SF2, SF3 and SFA should all have places there, while some crap like SSB shouldn't.

I won't take SSBM out. It's actually pretty deep, balanced and even plated all around. I should know because I picked it up on a whim and got destroyed in 1v1, after a while I started using Zelda/Sheik and talk about tight matches.

Games that should NOT have been on that list:

Mortal Kombat

Killer Instinct

Dead Or Alive

Super Smash Brothers

In regards to Tekken 3, I sill think that Tekken has yet to take that monumental step froward in game play since Tekken three. Don't get me wrong, all the Tekkens from 3 on are great games (not including Tekken 4). Tekken 4 was a broken, ugly, rushed sequel. Tekken 5 is what Tekken 4 should have been.

I think the people that made that list were trying to appeal more to the American main stream gamers then anything. I think the only reason they added VF is because they wanted to appeal to the hardcore and make it seem like they are truly down with the fighting game scene.

Yes SF3TS is an amazing game, but there are other games that could have taken that top spot and or could have been on that list like Samurai Showdown 2, VF5, KOF 98(IMO).

Why shouldn't those have been on the list? They're all great games... high level competitive play does not make a game. I actually think using the term 'mainstream' to differentiate between good and bad is actually pretty short-sighted You could make the case that high level play is about exploiting weaknesses in the game engine - those crazy Genei Jin infinite juggle type things - and ultimately make worse games overall for that reason. It also makes those games a lot harder to break into. I'm sure a lot of people are have had a lot more fun playing casual stuff like Killer Instinct and Dead or Alive than the hardcore following that mastered something like KoF98. Not to say there wasn't broken infinite stuff in Killer Instinct either, but it was a lot more accessible to the layman- who's to say which matters more when making a list?

I agree about SSB though- as far as the other 9 entries go in defining what a fighting game is, SSB stands out. I'd say its more a senseless party brawl than a disciplined fighting game.

I see what you are saying, and agree to a point. But I honestly feel those are not good fighting games. they are ok and DOA is a little above that. Just my thoughts though. I grew up playing Street Fighter, Virtua fighter, and Fatal Fury, and KOF. Eventually found out about Tekken around Tekken 2 and SC during the DreamCast days. I raised myself on quality fighting games. It was on coincidence though.
