Game Informer delivers some bad news for online gamers who were still enjoying a few of the older Electronic Arts titles. It seems that the company has already shut down servers for a number of games on Aug. 1 and plans to shut down even more on Oct. 1.

While players will be able to play online in these games until the selected date, EA does mention that "certain community programs may begin to close down prior to the shutdown dates."

Here are the Oct. 1 titles that you can look forward to not playing online anymore:

* Madden NFL 2005 for PS2

* Madden NFL 2005 for Xbox

* Madden NFL 2005 for PC

* NFL Street 2: Unleashed for PS2

* NFL Street 2: Unleashed for Xbox

This brings up an interesting question.

Is it a good time to finally pull the plug on the online function of games?

Sounds like menaceware: Buy 'n play the latest version, or NO online!!

I'd understand for the 2003/2004 lineup, but 2005???

Couple that with the impossibility to set your own unofficial servers, to be maintained even after company's death.

Hell, Warcraft 2 is still supported on Battle.net after a decade!!

I really couldn't care less about EA's server shutdowns. I'm not someone who enjoys playing the latest EA's sport rehashes online.

Does EA control all the servers or are some servers created by gamers themselves?

Just another reason why EA using their own servers SUCKS

With PC its not as big of a deal, But take Xbox Live for example

EA Servers suck, they are far less reliable and far more laggy than the normal Xbox Live servers (on average) and now they are shutting down alot of them

screw EA and thier crappy online services

EA controls all of them. This is both a stupid and smart way to make people upgrade to the latest waste of $60 sports game.
