Most mods are do it yourself. Soft mod is a software mod. It doesn't require tampering with hardware.

well, for ps2, hddloader rox, but not all games are supported, but versions are bein launched all the time, best of all you don't use the laser and there are no load times since you play the game str8 from the hard drive attached to your ps2.

 

modchipping your ps2 is risky, especially if you have one of those old early versions, but if it succeds, you will be able to play any games, including psx (I think the guy who chipped mine flocked up cuz I can't read psx backups no matter what I try), it's awesome kekeke, I have so many games now.

can't wait to switch to hdd advance tho, don't wanna kill my laser.

Softmodding doesn't guarantee that you don't have to open the Xbox though, the only way not to is if you have a game that is exploitable.

I don't, I hotswapped my hard drive to softmod my Xbox.
