SNES plays choppy, yet NEOGEO plays perfect?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here know why my system would play SNES very choppy, yet it plays NEOGEO games perfectly?

I would think NEOGEO games are more performance demanding than the SNES.

Here are my system specs:

2.1 Ghz Pentium M

2 Gb PC2700 ram

80Gb 5400 rpm HD

The graphics card is intergrated that shares about 16mb from the ram.

Is that where it maybe lagging in, is because of the intergrated graphics?

But that should make my Neogeo games run even crappier.

BTW, I used both ZsNES and SNES9X, and SNES9X runs better, but still choppy.

Thanks.

Start ZSNES with the -6 commandline switch, and enable VSync and Triple Buffering. (In some cases you may either leave Triple Buffering off or substitute VSync with it; I use both though).

Also, be mindful of what image filters you use.

Do you have frameskipping enabled, and if you do, at what setting is it at?

Alirght... I'm a dumbass.

While testing out Chrono Trigger, I had "BearShare" running in the background. That Bearshare takes up alot of CPU usage and I didn't know it.

But the games are now smoovie smoove.

BTW, in ZSnes, I got the option for Vsync and it helped a bit when I enabled it. But I can't find where the "Triple" buffering option is. I am using the windows version 1.42.

Thanks guys!!

If u can run all neo geo games smoothly, you should be able to run most Snes games smoothly. My old 333mhz Celeron and shared 8mb graphics card could run every snes game smooothly with the best looking filters, with the exception of Star Ocean. You just have to make sure that you don't have to many programs running the background. Oh, and you may want to try ZNES dos version, since i hear thats much faster.

If you use my method, you get the most steady 60/60 framerate with no tearing whatsoever.

My zsnes runs really choppy too. I don't know what's wrong with it. It usually happens all of a sudden. Any clues?

You might have another application such as AV software running at that moment.

If some of you have High Priority Mode turned on, disable it.
