slimline ps2 modding options?

so my brother-in-law is visiting and he was checking out my modded xbox. I was showin him some stuff and he is now interested in modding his slimline ps2. he doesn't want to solder so I suggested swapdisks and the "ghostswitch" but I am not up on the ps2 scene so if there is any other options available let me know and I'll pass it on to him.

he is not up on the mod scene at all, he has cable internet and wasn't even aware of torrents lol. so I am schooling him on the way of the pirate ;)

one thing i suggest getting done is the laser fix for the pstwo as its known for lasers to die out without warning and thats modded or not, the fix needs to be soldered.

i personally would avoid getting into the swap discs as its not 100% working with games and may get annoying if you endburning a game that works fine for modchips but for swap discs you need a patch which may or may not work.

mods that work on pstwo are: dms4 pro/lite, matrix infinity, and crystal mod. these are the one i can recomend as there are others that work on pstwo but aren't well known in the scene.

dvd+r dl has nothing to deal with the probs of gt4, its the burning process that is the problem.

the hk silver copies of gt4 work since those are pressed in PTP and current dvd burners can't do PTP (only OTP) but supposly pioneer's next model might be able to as rumor is they are coming out with the -r dl discs.

If that's the case...why don't all ps2 games become PTP pressed then to prevent pirating?

any chance anyone can pm me with some ps2 info links. i'm interested in doing it but have no idea where to start. i was looking for stores and soldering directions. i've serched google (lol ooh the 101 sketchy looking site i've been too.) but unlike with the xbox all the info i run into has been confusing that and choosing a damn chip. thanks.

matrix infinity or dms4 are you best bet for any ps2/pstwo model out but keep in mind that if you got a v12 pstwo, you'll need the neofix so your laser doesn't burn out (happens with or without a modchip).

v13 pstwo as i read has fixed the laser problem so no fix is needed tho neoasic claims there is a prob.

if you need some info on the mods:

http://www.dms3.com for dms4

http://www.infinitymod.com/cgi-bin/matrix/...chip_infinityhb for matrix infinity

and for some info on ps2 hacking and such, go to http://www.ps2-scene.org

i would mention the other ps2 site but i have no respect for a site that steals others work and not give credit and the man the runs it (cjpc) didn't even have the balls to be on the recent radio show live to face a man i do respect for his work on gamecube modding (brakken) and on top of that wouldn't do the text interview if brakken was gonna be in the show.

brakken played it smart and went by a different name and i must say the show was great and its worth a listen if you haven't yet :)

if interested why the other ps2 site is so bad, check out brakken's site http://ps2banz.psp-spot.com/
