i do not see a logical reason to switch to another OS, specially one that requires so much power to just work....

They'll be a reason, they'll make something up.

I beat they are going to do a full kernel overhaul so that it loses all backwards compatibility, forcing users to upgrade in order to play the newest games.

You can play Doom III on it but not other games. Doom III uses OpenGL so it's easy to get it work on Linux. But I wish more games (all games actually) were compatible with Linux then I'd pretty much dump Windows except for emulation.

Is gngeo any good? The emulator I use most is Kawaks.

gngeo is very good, judging by my experiences runnig it on a friend's Linux machine.

Even so, I still have not got the guts to go out and try any variants of Linux on my own. Maybe someday, but I'm not switching over anytime soon.

Yeah, unfortunately developers don't have time and money to make games for what is still a pretty small market. Most of them develop in DirectX environment. Maybe once WINE and Cedega improve then it would be cool.
