School + girlfriend + laziness = no 1emu for me for a loooong time

When school started up, my life got all filled with stuff do do, which I was not at all prepared for. Thus, interwebs stuff took a back seat to my new found real life. Now, what with exam week fast approaching, I still won't have much time for 1emu, but I'll try to pop in now and then. Oh, and RIP IRC... I knew it was dying for a long time now... but still... it's like losing muh bestest frind

Anyway, I've just recently been accepted to one of my top choices for college for computer engineering, I've taken up the bass guitar (and death metals growlings \,,/, ), I'm working on my school's FIRST Robotics Competition team, and things are going great with my girlfriend. Just thought I'd give y'all the quick rundown of things as of late...

NOT THAT ANYONE CARES (cry, biatch, moan, whine, etc.)

    Except Diso. He's ok.

And Robert. You can't hate Robert.

Or GameCop. Or Agozer. Or... etc.

Oh, and I see I'm still the #1 victim on the FAS...

    fix'd - diso
    Yep, gotta love that Diso.

The first six bands, all of which were deathcore or a variation thereof, sucked mad ass. Not only did their music fail to entertain or excite anyone but the emo/deathcore scene kids, but the bands themselves failed at looking metal. Only two people out of all six bands had enough hair to headbang, and most of the other band members wore either white shirts or Abercrombie crap with flip-flops.

Finally, Cryptopsy came on and the fun began. As the band was warming up for a song, the vocalist split the room in two, effectively clearing the floor, which led to one of the largest and most brutal Wall of Deaths I have ever seen, which in turn became a huge circle pit. During Vader, I headbanged till my neck hurt, then lept into the pit for some good ol' fashioned moshing. The only disappointing thing was that there were too many deathcore/emo faggots in the crowd, so Vader didn't get the kind of response the other bands did. By the time Kataklysm came on, I was sore all over, but I couldn't help but headbang faster and mosh harder. The level of energy in the room was unbelievable. Definitely the best show I've ever seen. Highlight of Kataklysm's set: the vocalist brought his terrified 5 or 6 year old son on stage for the crowd to scream and shout at. My friends and I left before The Black Dahlia Murder came on to go get some food, but we didn't meet any band members like we did after seeing Children of Bodom.

It also turned out that they were filming this show for the Summer Slaughter 2008 DVD, which is scheduled to be released on August 19th next summer. I might be in it, so everyone needs to buy it.

All in all, I'd say the concert was worth the ticket price, but it would've been just as good, if not better, wihtout the first 6 bands. Luckily, Kataklysm will be coming back with Dying Fetus, so I'll get to witness their raw power without any deathcore crap. Can't flocking wait.

So I've taken it upon myself to learn Lua, a "lightweight yet powerful" programming language. Thought it would be a good idea because:
    1. It looked easy
    2. It has been ported to the PSP and the DS
    3. It can be used in conjunction with C++, of which I know a (very, very) little bit
    4. ????????
So yeah. Reading some tutorials for Lua on the PSP. Hopefully I'll be churning out my own games 'n' apps within a few months. We'll see.

On the way up to my friend's cabin for our four day weekend I had my first experience of being in a car crash.

We were traveling down the highway at about 60 mph in silence brought on by the gloomy weather. The three of us in the back seat (the suv we were in had two seats in the front, three in back, and a storage area behind the seats) were either asleep or very close to it. Unfortunately, so was the driver. He dozed off, causing the car to drift across the left lane and off the side of the road. We bounced down the slope which was covered in tall wet grass, which made it impossible to steer or brake, and slammed into a tree at about 50 mph. When we hit the tree, an unsecured firewood log came flying forward from the storage area behind me and hit me in the back of the head.

All five people were able to get out of the car quickly, probably because of the adrenaline rush the crash had given us. It wasn't until a minute later that I touched the back of my head and saw blood on my hand. After that I just kinda sat on the ground with my head in my hands, trying to focus on breathing slowly. Pretty soon two police cars, a firetruck, and three ambulances showed up and we were all strapped down to hard plastic stretchers with braces on our heads and necks. Since I was also complaining about a bruise the seatbelt had given me, the medics also cut my shirt open to look at my chest. So there I was, laying down on a hard plastic board with a wound on my head and chest and a wide open shirt in 45 F weather (They also removed my jacket to check my shoulders for injuries).

The ride in the ambulance was ok, except that the part of my head that got hit by the log was starting to hurt from pressing so hard on the stretcher. Once we got to the hospital, I was left on my hard stretcher and placed on a bed. My legs were getting numb from being strapped down, my head hurt from the pressure being put on my wound, and I was annoyed out of my mind since the nurse turned on MTV and left the room. After about 20 minutes, the doctor came into the room, rolled me off of my stretcher, looked at my head for all of 10 seconds, told my parents (over the phone) that I didn't have a concussion, and left the room. After another 15 minutes, a nurse came in, buzzed off a small section of hair around my wound, and placed a drop of medical glue on it.

After that I was given a shirt to replace the one they cut and told to join my friends in the waiting room. The kid who had been sitting in the passenger seat was ok except for a sprained wrist from hitting his arm on the gear shifter and a stiff arm from where they gave him an IV. The kid who had been sitting behind the driver (next to the door on the left side of the car) just had seatbelt burn and a bruise across the left side of his chest. His shirt had also gotten ripped, so he had scrubs on just like me. The girl who had been sitting in the middle seat in the back had a small bruise on her chin from where the soda bottle she was holding had hit her, and her pants had split up the back. The driver ended up on crutches with a sprained ankle and a hurt wrist. My injuries were a few minor cuts on the back of my head, a bruise across the bottom of my stomach, another one across the left side of my chest, a bump on my left shin, and sore muscles in my chest. The car was totaled, with massive damage to the entire front end.

Since everyone was ok, we were able to continue the trip and camp out for two days. It was just as fun as the last two times I've been there, only with much more soreness involved. The night of the crash, we even snuck into a cattle farm and played with some cows.

The four of us were able to laugh the whole thing off, but the driver seemed pretty broken up. His insurance is going to cover everything, and no one is badly hurt, but he is going to have a hard time forgiving himself for falling asleep at the wheel with four teenagers in the car.

    Camping
On Friday one of my friends called me up and invited me to go to his cabin in northern-ish WI for the weekend. Not knowing how fricking cold it would be, I eagerly accepted. He informed me that we would be leaving at 9:00 AM on Saturday and I should pack for out door conditions. Then my parents went into an overprotective rampage and made be pack a bedroll that was quite possibly 2 feet in diameter, with a sleeping bag, 2 flannel sheets, a pillow, and 2 blankets.

The next day, after a two hour long car trip spent listening to the Ace Combat 5 and GTA:SA soundtracks, we arrived at the cabin, if you could call it that. Whit it was was a small, one room hut sitting atop a septic holding tank right next to a deserted freeway with a wide open field behind it. First impressions weren't that great (We were told to use the indoor bathroom as little as possible) but the little area had a certain charm and mystique, mostly because it was surrounded by tall grass and broken down buildings.

First we decided to take a walk on the beach of Lake Michigan, which was very nearly a fatal experience for me. We decided to get down to the beach by way of frozen waterfall and ravine, which would be challenging, to say the least. As I was attempting to work my way down the frozen waterfall, I was holding onto the nearest tree branch and balancing on some rocks. After I took one step onto the ice, I felt my foot slipping away, very fast. The tree branch slipped from my fingers and I went plummeting down. After what seemed like a fraction of a second, I found my self some 12 feet away and 3 feet below where I had been standing the moment before. Falling 3 feet on your back while traveling at a high speed is very painful, let me tell you. After I recovered from the pain of a bruised knee, a skinned arm, and a banged-up head, I noticed that I landed less than a foot away from a pile of big and sharp rocks.

The rest of the trip was not as dangerous, but not a single bit less exiting, either. Between each of us taking turns nearly sinking into the snow over the lake, we found a total of:

    - 3 dead birds (completely decayed except for their feathers, bones, and feet)
    - 4 dead fish (One of which was frozen into a puddle, but an animal had eaten the exposed part, so all that was left was a spinal cord spanning a gap in the ice)
    - 3 dead rodents (1 partially decayed fox, 1 freshly dead raccoon, and one rodent skull, which I kept)

The rest of the weekend was spent tending to the fire and gathering wood, but at night we got to have some fun. We came up with a fun game to play in which one person would act as a guard patrolling an area, while the other three people would try to sneak into the area from the pitch black dark, 11 acre field. It was very intense. When I was the guard, I would hear footsteps, but my flashlight would reveal nothing. It took just about 30 minutes for me to find the three people. Being one of the infiltrators was not easy, either. While trying to get to cover to avoid the flashlight beam, I once spent 10 minutes in the exact same spot without moving a muscle.

However, the whole thing was overshadowed by the fact that the highest temperature for the entire weekend was 23 F, so sleeping in a small tent (which was not meant for winter camping at all) was hell on ice. Therefore, on Sunday night I opted to sleep in the cabin.

    New Phone
Not much to say here... I *finally* got a cell phone. It's a Samsung SGH-c417 with service provided by Cingular. It's pretty nice... VGA camera, bluetooth, caller ID, etc. Only downsides to it: Few ringtones to choose from if you don't want to buy any more, and you can't set what the two options on the home screen are (You know... usually they're "Menu" and something like "Shop").

    Pictures may be coming soon!

I have mixed feelings about school starting up again. Mostly good ones, though, which surprises me. Since I pretty much spent the summer being a slug, I'm looking forward to having something to do during the day. Also, my friends were doing a whole lot of traveling, so I didn't see them very often. It'll be cool to see some of them again, after briefly chatting at class registration. Oh man... registration... a pain in a few ways.

First, a few days (read: two) before registration, I received a letter from my school stating that they would now be offering a Chinese language course. Since I absolutely hated the French teacher, I decided it was necessary to my sanity to get into that class. Of course, the guidance counselor for my group (last names P - Z) was out until the day of registration, meaning other kids would be able to get in before me. So I wait until the day of registration. She's still not in. So, I decide to register for my other classes, just to get that out of the way. I walk seven blocks to the school, wait in line for 30 minutes, and realize I'm one check short. So, I walk home, grab the other check, and head back. Now I wait 20 minutes in line to get my picture taken for my student ID. I walk home again (up to 28 blocks walked now). A few minutes later, a friend's mom calls to tell me that the guidance counselor just got in, and a line is forming. I rush back over to the school (in a car this time) and wait in line for another 20 minutes only to have the counselor tell me I can't get into Chinese because the classes I already picked cause schedule problems. So, I walk halfway home, all depressed because I'm going to have to go through another year of hell with the French teacher. Then, after talking with my parents, I decide to talk to my counselor again. I walk back (35 blocks walked total) and stand in line for 15 minutes (85 min. spent in lines total). Then, after reworking almost my entire schedule, I end up taking Chinese, an art class, and a study hall. I would have been elated, but I just spent 2 hours doing something that should have taken 45 minutes or less.

Second, during the first wait in line, a certain girl walked past. I will not describe what she was wearing (because that would be creepy and disrespectful), but I will say that it emphasized her amazing figure without being revealing or shameful. It was probably the most sexy and beautiful thing I have ever seen. Same girl I've written about before. A good friend, but nothing more... although I'm not sure if she's still with her boyfriend... But seeing her smiling and laughing again, after a whole summer of trying to convince myself I could never have her... oh man, that hurt.

So school will be starting on September 4. I'm looking forward to a few classes, but I'm sure that won't last long. Once school's been in for a week or two, I'll probably be right back into the ol' "I hate school/whens summer?" mode.

If you've read everything this far, message me to get a free cookie.

After going through 2 crappy soldering irons, I attempted to install a PSP-Devolution modchip into my PSP in order to revive it. Guess what. I flocked it up. Royally.
Without realizing it, I melted a few parts on the PSP's mobo. So yeah. WHO WANTS TO BUY SOME PSP PARTS?

So much crazy stuff has happened in the past week at my school. Normally we're pretty normal, just your run-of-the-mill public High School, but not this week...

The first thing that happened was a kid got arrested for sexual harassment. Apparently he posted some nasty things on MySpace, and a few people printed his comments out and showed them to our resident police officer (we have a police officer at our school instead of a security guard... he has guns). I know this kid pretty well, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was physically abusing them, too. See, ever since I met this kid more than 5 years ago, he has been nothing but an ass. He respects no one and no thing (Oh, the stories I could tell you). So really, I was relieved that he got arrested.

    The next thing is this:
    http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=582189
A kid recorded this 4 minute video on his cell phone; a fight between a black kid (Deon) and a white kid (Joe). The creepy thing is I know just about everyone in the video. Watch it.

Next, the police officers in our small village just bought some new guns. They are HK53 assault rifles, each with a laser sight and .223-caliber rounds. They say they need these guns to "keep up with the bad guys," but the worst the "bad guys" in our village get is what you see in the video above. Besides, the police already have pistols and shotguns at their disposal. They really don't need these guns.

And finally, just yesterday, one of my best friends was arrested. I have no idea why, I only have the testimonials of a few kids who said they saw him getting into a squad car. He could just have been brought in to be questioned about said sexual harasser, since the two of them used to hang out a whole lot, but I'm not sure. My friend has talked a lot about drinking and doing drugs, but I never thought he really did any of that...

So yeah. My school is a mess. All of this in the past week. I'm REALLY looking forward to spring break next week.

My R4DS came in the mail today, which is amazing since I ordered it yesterday. Only problem is, I'm a bit worried because of this:
This troubles me because my R4 is gray. I guess I'm gonna have to wait till my microSD card gets here to find out if I've been ripped off... dear god I hope not! If it does work, then Gamecop and I have a secret evil plan for writing a review.

Aaaaaand now, a list of things Mooney has for sale:

About a week ago I took a test at Driver's Ed to get my permit. A few days ago I went to get my permit. And today... I drove.

At first I was just driving around in an empty parking lot, doing things like going forward, reverse, speeding up, braking, turning, and parking. Then I went into a residential area, where only one person passed me, and I didn't cause any collisions. I did not hit any other cars, I did not hit any pedestrians, I did not cause any accidents, and I only went up on the curb once. I am quite proud of myself.

So yeah, woot and all that.

Girls are the most tricksy and mysterious beings on the planet. I swaer, if I could reproduce asexually, I would never have to deal with another devious female...

So there's this girl I like. She recently hooked up with another guy. He's a year older than we are. She's in my math class. We usually are in the same group when doing math exercises. She smiles at me a lot, and laughs at all of my jokes. Today, while working in a group on a math worksheet, she reached over to my paper and started writing an answer down for me with her hand resting on mine. I had the strongest urge to just lean forward and plant a big wet one on her lips. I did not. From what I've seen, she's not really that physical with any other guy but her boyfriend. I'm so confused...

If any guy ever fully understands women, I will give him all of my money and valuable possessions to teach me how.

It is so cold that I can not be outside for 30 minutes without my face totally freezing. And tomorrow is the SuperBowl! Thank god it's not going to be in Green Bay, or they'd be playing with an ice cube instead of a football, and Prince would have to wear a parka!

This past Sunday I attempted snowboarding for the first time in my life. Suffice to say I no longer have knees. Well, they are in bad shape. My left knee is completely covered in multi-colored bruises, and my right knee is swelling up to the size of a ping pong ball. I blame the snow at the resort for this. There was no real snow AT ALL. Only mad made snow, which was really just small chunks of ice. Every time I fell, I either hit solid ice or deep, wet ice. And, since this was my first day snowboarding EVER, I fell one hell of a lot. I didn't really accomplish anything, either. I cannot toe-side or heel-side turn, and I cannot stop (without falling ). I'm supposed to go to a ski hill with my friends after Christmas, so we'll see how that shapes up.

    So I just dl'd Firefox 2 Beta 2, and I must say:
    I LOVE IT!
It improves on many of Firefox 1.5's great features, like plug-ins and extensions, but it also gained some new features. It now feels a lot like Opera; Little [x] 's on the tabs, sleeker design... and other stuff. Another cool thing is a built in spell checker! If you misspell something, it underlines it in red. Then you right click the word, and it gives you spelling suggestions! Now none of you n00bz (<- it didn't underline that?!? ) have an excuse to misspell! Even now, 10 min after download, I am discovering new things.

    Woah, cupcakes!

After AT&T bought SBC, my internet connection randomly dropped, tech support was as helpful as a cage of dead squirrels ("Duuuhh... reboot?"), Firefox started glitchen' out , and I'm trying to convince my parents to get Road Runner Cable internet. I am THIS close { } to convincing them. Wish me luck with that...
Anyway, on a lighter side, I have decided to build my own PC. I'll give you a peek at some of the specs I've decided on:
    - ATI Radeon X1600 (PCI-E, 512MB) ~ $150 (Or less)
    - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2000Mhz FSB, 1MB Cache, Socket AM2, Dual Core) ~ $200 (Or less)
    - 2GB PC4200 DDR2 SDRAM (533Mhz) ~ $160 (Or less)
    - Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard ~ $100 (Or less)
I've got my eye on a DFI mobo as well...
So yeah... Hopefully my getting Opera will help my 3vil experiences online... *crosses fingers*
    Peace out!
    - Mooney

*EDIT* - Well, Opera officially is my favorite browser: I tried posting this blog SIX times on firefox... to no avail. Opera: got it on the first trial.

The Blackest Ov The Black tour came to The Rave here in Milwaukee last night. I knew it was gonna be a good night when I took a big bag of pocket change I'd accumulated over a year or two to the bank and discovered it was worth $24, thus paying for my ticket to the concert.

First up: Winds of Plague - Generic deathcore. Move along, nothing to see here.

Next was Moonspell - Pretty decent black/doom metal. Guitars and drums sounded awesome, but the vocalist could use a little work.

No show: Skeletonwitch - This sucked. I was kinda looking forward to seeing a trve black metal band, but their set magically disappeared...

What I came to see: Dimmu Borgir - Always a crowd pleaser, even with two substitutes (1 guitarist and the drummer). Great set, full of awesome songs. Unfortunately, even with The Rave's new 'no moshing' rule (which I don't see working... ever), a pit opened up right around be, causing me to get slightly banged up and my girlfriend to break a nail punching some dude in the face... Damn, she's awesome <3

Finally: Danzig - I only stayed for one and a half songs, but I got to see Glenn Danzig freak out at a stage crew dude... During his first song, it looked like Danzig's mic cord kept getting caught or tangled on some equipment, so when the song ended a fat ol' stage crew dude ran out to try to untangle it. The next song started while he was still on stage, though, and in his effort to quickly waddle away, he unplugged Danzig's mic. After he fumbled around with the cord for a bit but failed to reconnect the mic, I saw Danzig turn toward the sound guy with his mouth clamped in a tight frown, shake his head, turn, and hurl the mic at the stage crew dude. God I hope that gets on youtube...

After the show, grabbed a hot dog from a nearby stand and headed home. Great night.
