I had a look at this PCem, it indeed looks interesting, but where is the documentation ? Since there is no interface, how do you want to use this without any documentation ?!!! Even in the forum there is no basic documentation, no default configuration file, nothing, it's quite extreme ! I found the github repository containing all the bioses but they are useless without a minimum set of documentation...

If you have a link on how to start using this thing, I am interested... !

Glad you figured it out, unfortunately I didn't have the time to test it myself. PCem seems to have been abandoned, which is a pity, but there are forks of it that are still active, such as 86Box.

I actually wrote a guide on PCem back in the day. You can read it here.

  2. This is very interesting. I remember one of my first messages in this board was regarding the DOS version of RAINE, which I liked to play now and then under DOSBox.

Now I prefer to use PCem for those matters, and I set up a Celeron machine with Windows 98. If I have the time I'll see how this new build behaves under that environment during the next days.

Maybe you have set the option in sound options "always stop neocd music while loading" to No ? Actually I should have removed this option long ago, I added it out of curiosity to see if it could be useful sometimes, but for the original hardware it's totally impossible not to stop the music while loading because both require reading from the cd. This option is always to "yes" by default, just make sure yours is.

After checking this option is from before 2009, which means before the start of the git log, I expected to get some feedback from it but since the feedback never came, I just forgot it. You are the 1st one who might have used it by mistake !

Nope. Just checked. Anyway, if you're not getting more users with the same problem by now it's likely my version of the game.

  4. I should have noticed this before... but I probably tested the game with the sound off before. In my version there's an issue with the voices in the opening, they keep playing if I interrupt the intro, playing well into the animated prologue after you choose a character.

Or maybe it's just my version of the game. However, this doesn't happen under FB Neo.

  5. Earlier today I learned that an English translation for Samurai Shodown RPG (for the Neo Geo CD system) has finally surfaced.

You can get the patch here.

Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time patching the game and playing it. I've finally got a patched version that I think should work, but FB Neo won't recognise it (I've told them, just in case) and under RAINE it crashes the emulator after showing the introductory screens.

  6. The new version (Windows 32 bit build) seems to crash when loading "Acrobat Mission". Don't know if it's a new bug or if it already happened before.

    Can anyone confirm this?

  7. I can't get any sound under Windows 10... tried using wasapi and directsound drivers, the rest don't seem to work for me.

Tried overwriting my existing RAINE folder as well as with a fresh install.

Is anybody else experiencing the same issue?

EDIT: OK, I think I found the issue... in my system by default RAINE outputs audio to DigitalOutput (NVIDIA High Definition Audio) and won't play any sound. If I change it to Speakers (2-Realtek (R) Audio) it plays sound. There's a third option, Realtek Digital Output (2-Realtek (R) Audio) that won't play any audio either.

This is funny. Never had to change the sound device in RAINE before.

  8. OK, understood. Thanks for the info.

EDIT: Did as advised, the game works now OK 👍

EDIT 2: I think it's not the first time that I report a bug in this board and I'm advised to disable speed hacks. I was wondering... considering how fast are CPUs these days, would it be too bad for RAINE's performance if ALL speed hacks were disabled by default? Just wondering.

  9. Thanks for confirming it, it was driving me nuts. It could be rtelated to the OpenGL drivers, because I haven't reproduced the bug with the other drivers. Which doesn't mean I'm certain about it. At all.

I'm running Windows 10 and my hardware config is basically the following: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core CPU running at 3.70 Mhz, 16 Gb. RAM and a Asus DUAL-GTX1060-O3G graphic card.

  10. I finally found out what it was. If I delete the files inside the "config" folder, restart Raine, add game folders and activate fullscreen, then the new 4:3 mode before loading any game, Raine will freeze when trying to load ANY game.

But if I load a game before touching any video option, then everything works fine.

  11. I'll be damned... I broke something playtesting SSF2T and after doing a re-install of RAINE not a single game works... everything gets stuck at the "Applying visual layouts" step...

Maybe it's just me, but can anyone see if they can reproduce this? Using the x86 build under Windows 10.

  12. Ah, glad to see the bugs I reported have been fixed.

I'm a bit on the fence when it comes to the AR of Capcom games. Back in the day I always saw them in 4:3 monitors, but with time I almost got used to see them in the... original? AR. Anyway, you have given enough margin for anyone to use their preferred AR, and that's a nice touch.

For super pang / mighty pang, it's not that specific, it's because it had been so long since I added some new sound chips that I forgot a part of it, an order of things which must be maintained, otherwise you get this kind of crash. At least it's easy to fix !
For avsp, for me it's the same, at least compared to mame 232, the only difference being that the key file is not required in raine since it's in the source, and anyway if your rom is bad you can let raine get it from the internet archive !

Understood. As I said, these are minor concerns. I only reported them because I thought they could be symptoms of bigger issues. Keep up the good work!
