  1. On November 19th, Nintendulator received another regular update (reported recently on AEP Emulation Page). The following entries are a description of what's new in the newest Nintendulator 0.955 beta.

    - Partial VS Unisystem support has been readded to Nintendulator, in the form of a new mapper DLL - VS.DLL. Mappers 99 and 151 have been removed from iNES.DLL as a result.

    - Automatic palette detection will likely not be implemented, and it'll be a while before the VS palettes are added.

  2. EmuHQ recently posted about an update of PalmUAE, which is a port of the UAE emulator to Palm devices. Below is a quote of what's new in the emulator.

    - Although no significant changes to the emulation core were made, this version works at least twice as fast if compared to the previous versions (at least on my Clie). This is due to the fact that both binary and data are stored in the same RAM (if possible).

    - AGA officially supported. Not all AGA games work, however, especially if high resolutions are used (example Alien Breed, because of intro screen)

    - Auto centering on x or y axis (or both).

    - Max CPU speed checkbox added. While this may increase emulation speed drastically, it also reduces copmatibility.

    - Added limited storage RAM support. This means that you can use all of the available RAM (on storage or heap) as dynamic. Now you can have up to 8MB RAM Amiga even on devices with 4 or less MB heap RAM without the need for third party applications. While I didn't have any lockups with this version, it is strongly recommended to backup first.

    - Removed "Kick to RAM" option. Any available memory is now used for kickstart.

    - Bug fixes

  3. EmuHQ recently reported about an update for vSun Plus, which is a shareware Super NES emulator for Series 60 phones, which includes the N-Gage. Below is a quote of the features, and lack of features.

    - Much faster. vSun Plus can emulate many games very smoothly. It is much faster than vSun 1.1

    - Less memory. vSun Plus only need 640K plus ROM size to emulate a rom. It can also run with big ROM on Nokia 3650,7650

    - Bluetooth multiplay!

    - More graphics options

    - sound emulation

    - transparent effects

    - support for some chips, so has less compatiblity than vSun 1.1

  4. With this new version comes a long-requested feature, and only 5 days after the introduction to rewinding in olafnes...

    - Background layer disabling of video is now possible

    - Improved netplay, 6502 execution, video rendering, and other functions

    - Now supports individual palettes again

    - Changed many hotkeys and menus

    - Fixed a tiny error in rewinding

  5. This isn't emulation news, but GameCop found it interesting and important enough to allow me to post it on the front page. Well, Death Adder of Zophar's Domain and the Super Fighter Team is talking about releasing a new Sega Genesis game to the United States, read the quote below for more information...

    June 11, 2005

I suppose it has been a question mark for quite a while, but Beggar Prince is indeed a serious project of Super Fighter Team. C&E, Inc. was kind enough to grant us exclusive permission to handle the job, and as such we've made it a point to really put our hearts into it.

The game script was translated from Chinese to English, most of it then rewritten to give the game a more understandable, exciting, and emotional plot. The introduction and title screen graphics have been changed to reflect the English title of the game. As I simply refuse to release buggy or otherwise flawed software, I hired a few Genesis programming veterans to patch and/or remove the bugs that C&E allowed the game to ship with in Taiwan due to a rushed release schedule. Overall, I am very proud of the work we have done and I believe the Genesis-Megadrive community will appreciate all of the hard work that has gone into the translation and additional preparation of this game.

Beggar Prince will be the first American cartridge release of a Sega Genesis game in many years. An expansive RPG, the game is 4MB in size and features four save game slots (32KB battery-backed SRAM). While pricing details and exact release date are not yet decided, this game is definitely a "go", with the backing of the original company (C&E, Inc.) standing behind our efforts. OlderGames will be handling the publishing and sale of the completed product.

Eight screenshots of the game in action are now available, as of today, for viewing from this website. There will be many more pictures, information, etc. on the website within a short time. Since the game is so close to official release, I feel that now is a good time to get the ball rolling.

It is my sincere hope that this project will inspire more folks to give the Sega Genesis-Megadrive some additional attention, especially in the way of as-of-yet untranslated RPG adventures. There are many Taiwan-produced games of this genre waiting for a good, solid English release. More often than not, the companies that create these Taiwanese games are more than happy to help Westerners bring them to a larger audience.

Thanks for your support! Keep an eye on this page for the most updated news about the game and its upcoming release!

Frankly, I look forward to a new release of a game on an old console. I plan on purchasing this cartridge if it indeed sees the light of day.

  6. Yes, that's right, my emulator isn't dead, I've just been lazy and my hard drive crashed. Below are the changes in version 1.1d.

    - Added ability to change olafnes' background

    - Entire source code is tabbed/spaced correctly now

    - Rearranged and renamed some menus

    - Removed option to "unplug" joypads, caused confusion

    - 'temp' directory now cleared with rom loads/unloads

  7. i don't have any negativity towards olafnes at all, i just have a horrible case of apathy, but as of yesterday i started working on olafnes again. as far as it being a horrible emulator, put it next to basicnes, the project i reprogrammed to turn into olafnes, you will not think it's so horrible compared to that. it's nowhere near as good as say fce ultra, rocknes, and so on, but it can play a lot more games than other emulators and has a hell of a lot more features. but then again, i'm not competing, i'm learning.

  8. MEKA, the Sega Master System emulator, has been making some progress, this progress only affects the Windows build at the moment, but here's what's new.

    - In SMS mode, fixed color filling when VDP rendering is disabled. Previously disabled parts where filled with black, instead of the current border color. No commercial game exhibited the problem. Chris Cowell's port of Aleste 2 from GG to SMS did.

    - Tile viewer now display tile starting address.

    - Tile viewer now update information while mouse hovering.

    - When used in the interface, analog peripherals supported by the mouse now only perform their action if the mouse has focus on the game window.    This prevent accidental in-game shooting when using tools or debugging. Of course, you should not use the interface if you only intend to play.

  9. PMame is a MAME port to the Tapwave Zodiac and Pocket PCs. The changes in 009 are:

    - The loader is spiffed up a bit. (Thanks Antiriad!) You also return to the search you had previously entered. I also fixed a memory leak.

    - Core: Got more games working and made a change to screen size. Some games had double size in one direction. So I've changed it so that the display is made from the visible screen size. This seems to work well, I didn't find any games broken because of it but there must be some!

    - ZIP-File parsing is faster now

    - Added quicksave/quickload (stores one savegame in the memory of the GP32)

    - Sound!!

    - Use left/right for view the roms or the savegames

    - Use The left button to jump to the previous letter in the game list,

the right button to jump to the next letter in the game list

    - Up/down for scrolling up and down

  11. The fourth beta of Atari800Win PLus is available for download, however, there's some sad news for this emulator...

This is the last version of the Atari800Win PLus emulator released with my assistance. It is a difficult decision for me, because working on the project gave me a lot of fun and satisfaction. Unfortunately, I am not able to work on this project as much as I would like to anymore.

Fortunately, Marcin Lewandowski made a decision to continue working on the emulator. Marcin is the author of all the improvements and changes in this version of Atari800Win PLus, so send him any questions and suggestions concerning the version, please (see the help file for his e-mail address).

Last but not least, I would like to thank all the persons who have helped me in the emulator development for these years, and to apologize to all the people who have sent me e-mails which I haven't replied to.

Have fun with new versions of Atari800Win PLus,

    Tomasz Szymankowski

  12. Q-emuLator is a multi-platform Sinclair QL emulator. The new version is 2.33, and here's what's new in it:

    - Keyboard emulation is now compatible with Windows dead keys when using Sinclair or Minerva ROMs.

    - Completed keyboard emulation for non-standard QL ROMs.

    - Q-emuLator now accepts non-standard ROMs up to 80KB long, and expansion ROMs up to 32KB long.

    - Fixed microdrive copy protection emulation (it was failing on fast PCs).

    - Improved user manual in PDF format (courtesy of Phoebus Dokos).

    - Added setup program to install/uninstall Q-emuLator.

    - New trap to allow QL programs to close the emulator.

    - Relative paths can now be used to specify the location of ROMs, PC directories and QXL.WIN files. The emulator is now also partially resistant to files being moved around. For example, if you change the PC drive letter for the hard disk containing the emulator executable and your QL software, in many cases Q-emuLator will still be able to find your QL software, even if the.qcf configuration file still specifies the old disk drive letter.

  13. The multi-platform GameBoy Advance emulator has just received a significant update, and here's what Marat Fayzullin said about this release on the official web site:

This is the major Virtual GameBoy Advance release. Since this release, the VGBA-Windows runs in both full screen (using DirectDraw) and windowed modes. There are fixes to the CPU and BIOS emulation, waveform sound channels, and video rendering routines. For example, the sound stuttering and the occasional sprite flicker problems are now gone. The complete list of features and the list of new features and fixes can be found in the documentation.

I have also started adding Nintendo DS features to VGBA, such as the second ARM9 CPU and the cartridge loader. This work is far from complete though, so do not expect VGBA to run Nintendo DS programs right away. Because of these changes, the save state file format (.STA) has been changed again.

  16. I've been slowly but surely working on some fixes in olafnes, and now I'm ready to release v1.1c. Along with that, if anyone was paying attention to the behind-the-scenes here (if you don't, or don't know what was going on, don't worry about it), I won't be leaving 1Emulation after all. Here are the changes in version 1.1c:

    - ROM specifying via the command line is now supported (ex: olafnes c:\roms\smb3.nes).

    - Lots of windows/menus changed or renamed.

    - Trying the next mapper when substituting won't work now when no substitution has been attempted.

    - Fixed the missing 'left' configurability for Player #1 (Reported by: GryphonKlaw).

    - Loading a ZIP file no longer makes your default ROM directory the /temp directory.

    - ZIP files are now included in the lists generated in the ROM list window.

    - There's now a 'Last ROM' window, which provides information about the last ROM you've played (creates: lastrom.dat).

    - 'config.ini' accessing targets 'config.dat' now, please rename your configuration file.
