  2. After being with 1Emulation for over a year, olafnes sees its 33rd release, version 1.1g. I've been on a hiatus for a while, and I decided to use some of my advancements in my code to make things easier this time around. Adding a new mapper was a sinch, and here's its information along with other updates...

    - support for mapper 53 added (ex: supervision 16-in-1 [p1])

    - netplay now fully parses incoming data

    - cleaned up the source code some more

  3. Has anyone else seen 12 Ounce Mouse on Adult Swim? My girlfriend and I were watching it the other night, and it's honest to god the stupidest cartoon ever. I know Adult Swim is open to randomness and vague storylines, but the shows they're airing are getting stupider all the time. On that note -- Perfect Hair Forever is also a stupid show. They're like... pseudo-American-anime trying to be like all the random anime shows actually shown in Japan, and it's just stupid. I just thought I'd voice my opinion -- it bothers me. I remember back in the day when Adult Swim was only quality shows like: Cowboy Bebop, Sealab 2021, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Outlaw Star, etc. Now they have to air every alternative show that's thrown at them without any fan base (examples: Stroker and Hoop, Perfect Hair Forever, 12 Ounce Mouse, etc.). Now they're resurrecting Gigantor, I mean... the show's cute, but it's from like the 50's -- the sound and video quality is like watching an MPEG with like 56kbps audio. Okay, I'm done ranting.

  4. DSemu has been recently updated as reported by AEP Emulation Page. This is not an official release, but here's what the author has to say about this snapshot release.

Once again, it's been a little while. The updates are getting less substantial, and there's longer spaces between them. Don't worry, things will start up again soon. But in the meantime, the Thumb core's been getting a thorough testing by running a few Thumb demos and comparing their instruction dumps with that of VBA. And it seems that a few bugs (quite a few in fact) have been eliminated, helping a couple more demos run smoothly.

In addition, I felt it was high time I put an About box into DSemu-ng, just stating the licence and acknowledgements. Of course, it's nothing pretty; just a Fl_Text_Display stuck into a window. But I hope to pretty it up a little at some point in the future.

Things to come include, in the immediate future, some more DMA. It's sadly very lacking right now, with only immediate DMA3 supported. But I'm hoping the new event model allows me to add DMA on hblank and vblank, as well as multiple channels. Further from there, I may make a start on the long task of integrating DS functionality; the new memory maps, new graphics core, and getting the ARM7 to run first of all. But that's in the future.

For now, you can get the code snapshot as it lies. As always, here's the link:

  5. Earlier on EmuHQ it was reported that Frodo2x has been updated (to version 0.9.2). Frodo2x is the GP2X port of Christian Bauer's Commodore64 emulator: Frodo. Below is what's new.

    - Graphics have now been optimised for the GP2X and it should run at full speed with zero frameskip.

    - Frodo2x can use d64 (disk) and t64 (tape) images, plain.prg files, and native directories.  Zipped images are also now supported.  Disk images can be written to, but not zipped disk images.

    - Volume control is not yet implemented, but the audio can be toggled on  and off from the menu.

    - Snapshots are saved to the c64/snapshots folder and can be loaded like any other file.

    - Use the left shoulder button to open and close the virtual keyboard. If it's in the way of what you're typing use the bar at the top to drag it around.

  6. You may need to upgrade your power supply, lots of modern video cards require a 500w(v? iunno) power supply, and I bet yours is only around 430. That could be the problem or a defective video card, check out the requirements for the VIDEO CARD first -- compare them to your system. If everything's okay, then you probably have a defective card.

  7. e-lation.net reports that MAME v0.102u1 has been released, this coming just after my report on MAME's WIP. Note that Top Roller hasn't been added yet, you could probably expect this in v0.102u2. Below is what's new.

  8. Hi, ahead of time -- I take this post very seriously. I am starting work on a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, for those of you who do not know what this acronym stands for). Right now I am in need of a graphics artist, most tiles in the game will be 32x32 pixels. I am either looking for a "dark" scheme or an anime-esque scheme of tiles. If you are interested in making tiles please reply. This is for someone with a lot of time on their hands -- or really into video games and would like to make money working on a game with me. I am doing all the programming for client/server, battles, etc. -- all I need is a graphic artist -- I suck. Answering things ahead of time:

    - It will be like most modern 2D online games, see: Tibia, TerraWorld, Deloria Online, etc.

    - It will have a unique turn-based but real-time battling system.

    - I am going to try to make it WINEable (be able to run under Linux).

    - There will be a premium service one day.

    For anything else, ask away.

  9. I've used two different types of Lexar JumpDrives, they seem to work the most reliably and for pretty cheap too, under $40. I used to use my old RCA Lyra MP3 player for the same purpose, that was very reliable and it blinked when files were accessed.
