  1. honestly I'm not that interested in pixel perfect stuff either, but I see no problem in supporting it for those who want it. phil has the stuff for it as far as I know. a while back, there was a bug with the rotation code which I fixed for him, but the change was never implemented in a new release. if you are interested, just send me a pm. its super easy. 2 minute fix (literally).

  2. it runs out of mem with filters sorry

im pretty sure its not running out of memory as it says i have 80MB free. but it doesnt bother me having the filters off, so this is not an issue.

  3. only request i have is updated sound driver for journey.zip to support the sound sample

Edit: my bad, sound does work for journey, however if you have video enhancing effects on like i did, sound does not work in this game for some reason. it is on for a few seconds and then stops, not sure why (this is sound for the entire game, not just the sound sample at the end)

  4. 1) I have EPIC r7, which I thought was the newest. Anything I need to do other than adding it to the samples folder?

    2) I checked, and all the dip switches are at full :(

    3) Ok thanks, I will give it a try and post back if I figure it out, so it can help others.

  5. Hey BP, loving the new EPIC stuff right now especially disable info tracking which is awesome! Just had a couple things i cant seem to make work that are probably not too hard to do.

    1) I can't seem to make the audio sample at the end of the game "Journey" work. It is supposed to play a song when you beat the game, but nothing happens. I put the sample in my samples folder. This sample can be found here: http://mameworld.info/mrdo/journey.html

    Am I doing something wrong?

    2) I noticed that the sound on Mortal Kombat 1 was much improved in the MAMEoX core (it used to be very quiet), however, Mortal Kombat 2, 3, and 3 Ultimate are still very quiet. This is not a major issue since I can just turn the volume on my system up, but I was wondering if there was any way to make the volume higher for these games in MAME.

    3) My 128mb XBOX runs out of memory when trying to load Ray Storm. It is only short by less than 1mb. I have tried changing audio quality, video quality, and disabling sound, but it will not load. Is there something I can change in the virtual memory to make it load?

  6. and the only reason you wouldnt use the midway and fba core is if you have a speed upgraded box then its pointless and they actually have less features than CoinOPS Cores

That's sort of what I was getting at...I have a 1.4ghz box, so I should not use those new cores then?

  7. Hey all, just wondering if there will ever again be a CoinOPS version with only Coin OPerated games in it? I just want an arcade only emu, and would prefer to have consoles separate. Will this ever happen? I liked the old versions where it was only arcades (MAMEdoX, Arcades, Ignite, ReIgnite, etc.), but want the new updated games like Bubble Bobble which has been fixed in CoinOPS Epic. Basically no cores at all besides the updated MAMEoX core.

Thank you BP for the work you did on this and keep it up!

  8. hey guys, right now in my xbox i have a 320gb hdd with all of the extra space on my f drive. i was thinking about setting aside a few gigs and repartitioning it to have a small g drive to run linux natively. is there any version that someone could see as the fastest, or most flexible in terms of adding programs? something that is fairly recent in terms of being updated would be nice, but if it works good, i guess its not necessary. i have a 1.4ghz cpu and 128mb of ram so would also be looking for one that would utilize those. so far i have only used x-dsl but thought it was good in the past.

once i choose a version to use, any suggestions on how much space to give? i wont be putting too much else on there than the OS and a few programs. i have heard using swap files can help speed linux up as well. what size though i have no idea.

    thanks for the help!

  9. Well, I'm just patching them just in case. I have all my files backed up on my computer. Those are unaltered.

Does anyone know what the patch does exactly? It runs very quickly, so I assume it either adds or subtracts a small amount of code. Also, who made it?

    Hello,

I tried with both patching and not. There doesn't seem to be any difference at least in the ones I've tried so far, X68k, CoinOps, FBL.

I would definitely keep the patch handy just in case.

Thanks for the quick response dude. I just wanted to make sure there weren't downsides to the patch. I'm pretty much making a patched set of emulators and leaving my unpatched ones alone.

Since you've tried both ways, which one are you leaving on the xbox hard drive, the patched or unpatched ones?

i have been trying to figure out what the patch does as well, but have no idea. whatever it is, its brilliant lol. its just a simple hex editor as far as i can tell. seems like from the small amount of data being edited that it is only changing some flag in the xbe, but i dont know of any that relate to clock speed or cpu at all. also, for the backups, i just use the backups the program itself creates (default.xbe.bak or something) and keep them all on my xbox. if you want to quickly switch, just rename your files. anyway, a user on these forums called ac3t1ne claims he made it. i pm'd him a while back, but he hasn't been around.

  10. By the way, what game emulators have you been playing that previously played poorly on a stock Xbox?

n64 is way better as well as some mame games which were unplayable or laggy before. not sure which does more on those the cpu or ram...but they work great either way. havent done much with ps1 yet, but i heard it was improved too. most stock games load faster, but this is mostly due to running them from my new hdd with an ata100 cable rather than the cpu. xbmc also runs a lot better, which is all cpu i think.

    your experiences?

  11. No, I have an Xport Xpod, which does have cooling issues. Thats why I modded the case. It looks like I move between 128 - 130 F. I think what we should both test is a game that will push the CPU through its paces and really heat it up. Have any ideas?

I'm still messing around with my setup. Maybe I'll loosen the CPU's heatsink, but I haven't noticed any issues with it being tight. I think usually, they are supposed to be as tight as possible.

Also, I'm using 3x Nexus fans, that are rated at 20.2CFM. Now, if I get something like the Vantec Tornado, which is rated at 84 CFM, I bet I will see improvement. The only problem is that I'll hear it too. :D

    Talk soon

do you have the stock case? b/c im using a slim. every detail can change it i guess. keep me updated. im satisfied with 120 idle, but i bet it could be better.

ive heard of the xpod and also heard you talking about using it, but where can you get one? pictures? im just curious.

and as far as both testing the same game i agree, but it seems like what would be better would be to both play a similarly encoded (or the same) hidef movie through xbmc as it will use the whole cpu, which will definitely get the temps goin. pm me about what you think.

as far as your heatsink goes, if you dont have problems, i guess just let it be. mine worked fine at first, but gradually, i started having a hard time starting it up so i guess the cpu came out of place over time because i had mine on there so tight? if you have problems though later on, thats my first suggestion on where to look. i always thought it was good to have them on tight as well, but with this heatsink, the cpu is not centered under it, so this is probably the cause of my issue. however, the cpu coming out did not damage anything permanently, so no worries there.

right now, i can hear my fans pretty well since everything is at 100%. when i turn my main case fan down to 60, it gets way quieter, which is nice for movies. the other fans arent loud at all, so i dont mind those. haha if you had two of those tornados, you could probably get temps under 100 if you know where to put them. add a fan controller to turn them down a bit and the noise would be tolerable.
