  1. Ah, but you know what? Thats not the issue. I have figured it out; whats actually wrong is that the command line for the chars pal.defaults is messed up.

Yeah! maybe your right because I still encountered that kind of error but not to often though not like last time. Do you know how to fix this? or is there a way to identify which characters have a faulty pal.defaults? Correct me if I'm wrong.

  2. I found the source of my problem! I accidentally put two order values in one of my character in the select.def file.

This is what that problematic line looked like before I spotted it.

    foo/foo.def, order = 3, stages/foo.def, order = 3, music=sound/foo.mid

As you can see I put two order values in it, in which it should only have one. It must have done it when I was putting their order values and background music. Boy! I'm glad I found it. Now I don't have to slam my keyboard to the PC Screen I just hammer on the keyboard keys right now.

  3. I keep getting the error, "Assert Failure at charselect line 3117" and then my Mugen closes. Any idea why?

    Im very tired of it.

Me too. I keep getting that kind of error and I think its not character related maybe because it happens randomly different characters and different time durations. For example, I use kfm or any other character then at my first fight or some other fight sometime soon with another character that annoying message just pops out of nowhere then I pick up my keyboard and slam it to the PC screen just to contain my anger.

Can someone help me out of this?

  4. I have been having an error issue too. I have not seen anyone post this error yet, so I suppose If I want answers I shall post here.

Evey now and then, when two characters face off, the game crashes. An error message shows up looking like this: (using character Link as example)

    M.U.G.E.N Error

    Error Message: Can't Load link.sff

    Error loading chars/link/link.def

    Error loading p2

    Out of Memory Error.

If any of you know what I should do to prevent this from happening, please let me know.

Your problem is maybe your simply out of memory or the characters you are using are incompatible with the M.U.G.E.N version you have.

You could try editing the ".def " file the character are using and making it compatible to the newest M.U.G.E.N version by doing this simple steps.

    1. Find if the references to these files are correct and they exist.
    2. Wrap the reference to these files in double qoutes.

Note : There are other steps to making the characters compatible with the newest M.U.G.E.N but they require skills or knowledge in making characters in M.U.G.E.N.

Note : By doing these things you may violate the authors conditions on using his creations.

  5. I don't know if this will work for everyone but it sure did work for me. The only thing you have to do is to set which VESA mode M.U.G.E.N. will use. Vesa 1 and Vesa 2 - banked mode will work fine but Vesa 3 and Vesa 2 - Linear mode won't work. In order to do this you have to edit mugen.cfg which commonly resides in the data folder and find the line "Vesamode" then change its value to the corresponding values "1" for VESA 1, "Linear" for Vesa 2 Linear mode, "Banked" for Vesa 2 banked mode, "3" for Vesa 3 or you could use an application called "MWC" or "Mugen Windows Configurator" you can get it at here http://www.bytezero.cjb.net/. One thing about this method is that the game speed may be greatly slowed especially in newer video cards. :( I found out about this while recently switching into an Windows XP Pro OS and being greatly disappointed trying to find M.U.G.E.N for Windows and then fiddled with the configuration but alas! I was able to run it in XP. By the way, here is the system specs I am using Pentium III 600 Mhz, 128mb ram, built in SIS 530/620 video card, CMI 8738 audio card, 10 GB harddisk. Windows XP Professional OS. Yep, I'm using a nearly obsolete unit but it still serves my purposes. :P

  6. Oh! God! :D This news is just making me more impatient. When will it be released! Aaaaaaaargh!! Got to find something to divert my mind into... By the way where can you find a good and free web hosting that offers 500 MB out there?

  7. I am a newbie so correct me if i'm wrong.

I love playing Neo Geo games and I use NeoRageX for that but now I wan't to make those games playable in WinKawaks too, so I looked in the forums and seen something about dat files and glad I am that i found for it did solve some of my problems but not all. Some of my other games still did not show up in WinKawaks.

I think i have understood some of the lines in the dat file like the p1,s1,m1,v1, c1 - 8 rom and CRC thingy but what are those other numbers stand for? Where do they get that? How did they find out that? Or Generally Ho do you really make a dat file?
