  1. It's not a spin-doctored story. It's a true story about the Government using forms people signed only to get free ice-cream, to get them to sign up for the selective service system. The government, whether or not they knew that the ice-cream company knew that they had bought the list, knew that the list came from a free ice-cream promotion. As for your specific points:

    1. Yes, you keep on claiming that it is MANDATORY to sign up for the selective service system. I think that mandatory is a pretty damn good synonym for necessary. Whether or not you think it is necessary is irrelevent: if it is mandatory, it is a NECESSARY step in being an American citizen.

    2. Legal or not, it's the most immoral thing I've heard in a long time, as they knew where the numbers came from.

    And

    3. If people who signed up to get free ice-cream then got a letter reminding them to sign up for ss, a letter that without the free ice-cream list they'd otherwise NEVER HAVE RECIEVED, and those people then got sent to war, than that to me counts as a DIRECT LINK between a free ice-cream list and being sent to war.

And now consider this - in Australia voting is mandatory. If you don't vote you can get fined or even sent to jail in the worst case scenario. The government here does a pretty good job of sending out enrollment forms to people who are about to turn 18 - if we can manage to form a system to contact coming-of-age teens with forms they must fill out after they turn 18, without resorting to buying lists from ice-cream promotions, why can't you?

  2. For christ's sake man, ANY link between signing up to get free ice-cream and being forced to spend time in the army is AN ABSOLUTE TRAVESTY. I don't care if people "have" to sign up, if they "had" to sign up then there are much more practical (and ethical) ways of reaching these people than from getting their names and addresses from a list of people interested in an ice-cream promotion!

If this thing was so necessary, as you claim, then why aren't there official channels that can be used here? If a thing is mandatory, than it should generally be unavoidable. Why is the army resorting to tricking people interested in getting their driver's license, or even interested in FREE ICE-CREAM?

If signing up to selective service is so mandatory, why don't the Government simply use the census to find people under 18? It doesn't make the first lick of sense to me (pun intended).

  3. u kno, the disney ones sound interesting too..like alladin sayin somethin very perverted with jasmine..i forget...any sites that has those naughty hidden goodies in disney movies?  :P

Hehe, those are awesome. My favorite one was in The Little Mermaid where the priest pops a woody when he marries Ariel and that guy.

i guess that lion king one was true. u can actually make up the word...if u slow it down....

    heh WTF R U talking about :)

if u watched that clip on jkcinema, they explain to u that u can see the word sex after simba lies down on a pile of flowes i guess, and as it flys into the wind, it swirls around and if u can pause it quick enough, u can actually see the word there...

It wasn't SEX, if anything it was SFX (the name of the special fx company that worked on the movie - they must've snuck it in as free publicity), but it looks more like SFK anyway.

  4. what about California? kinda doubting us out here myself cause...welll...if you were a morally committed conservative politician, would you send someone to war that comes from a state with a shiitload of gays, atheism, and all other types of liberalism?

buuut...idk, we have that austrian governer who's a conservative :P

that should just say "Unser Führer"

It already IS that way in California. At least, I know I had to submit my info to selective service when I was 18. That was about 5 years ago.

no dude, you don't get it see, cause the state govs. in those states in those news pages had ppl giving their selective service info earlier than 18 see. Cause it's required by law to apply for selective service once you turn 18

    Ah, I see. My bad.

However, it's still not a really good reason to skip to the most extreme conclusion. The armed forces are in bad shape in terms of recruitment right now, and there are steps they can take to resolve that that won't completely destroy the reputation of themselves and anyone in charge. This in itself is not directly harmful, and could be a part of a recruitment scheme that is not as ridiculous as a draft.

I'm not any happier with the situation than anyone else in this country, but I'm not going to scream doomsday over something like this.

Even if you're right, targeting 15- and 16- year olds with military advertisements and recruitment drives is morally reprehensible enough in my opinion. It also shows that the military are desperate - meaning even if you're right, they'll be forced to resort to the draft eventually.

Morally reprehensible, yes, but ANY advertising scheme for volunteer service is a hundred times better, at least, than forced enlistment. Also, good luck passing the law that would let kids that age actually serve.

Such a campaign would most likely be aimed at improving the image of the military with young people to increase voluntary recruitment as they get older. The military has a crap image now thanks to the actions of Mr. Bush, and a large portion of the personell are low income folks for whom it is one of relatively few options. It's well known that motivated voluntary recruits are considerably more effective than conscripts, and mean less overall recruitment is necessary.

Furthermore, even if they are "desperate," there's only so much evidence that the "desparation" will lead to a draft. The pentagon itself has remarked on the ineffectiveness of the draft system with modern military tactics. And that's not to mention the social and political backlash that would obviously arise. There are probably few who would trade political suicide and mass social upheaval for a largely ineffective draft measure. That's probably why they've been shot down every time they've come up.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's definately not going to happen. There is a chance that there will be a draft and in that case I'll see you all in the border waits. However, there is an attitude of paranoid reasoning about everything in the media right now and it's retarted. Let's try to think critically instead of jumping on the sensational media bandwagon.

I'm not claiming that if conscription gets reintroduced, they'll be conscripting under 18-year olds, but its disturbing that they're getting to them that early.

  6. Garbage, I'm 16 and haven't heard of any of this crap.

Would you read the freaking articles before dismissing them? This IS happening, and no matter how much you try to pretend it isn't, it won't go away

Oh and here're the states whrere it is happening.

As of October 19, 2004, 33 states, 3 territories, and the District of Columbia have enacted driver's license laws supporting SSS registration. They are: (1) Enacted and Implemented - Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia; (2) Enacted But Not Yet Implemented - Guam, Maryland, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Certain states are now REQUIRING anybody who signs up for a driver's license to commit their details to "the Selective Service", essentially "volunteering" themselves for the draft.

The worse part is, people as young as 15 are being signed up (presumably so they can be drafted at 18)

This is the biggest display so far of signs to REINTRODUCE conscription, and I highly recommend anyone who is eligible to recieve their driver's license to check if your state is participating in this "manditory volunteering" before going for your license.

(And to all those who were so adamant that there were no plans to reintroduce conscription, it looks like you were very wrong).

  8. If you want to use anthrax as a chemical weapon, realise that if it's deployed as a powder the mortality rate is pretty low (only around 1 in 4, and that's when the victim doesn't seek any medical attention at all), and also anthrax is not contageous. The best way to use anthrax as a weapon is to get spores from the original bacteria, that way the mortality rate is around 90% regardless of medical attention.

    http://www.snopes.com/rumors/anthrax.htm

(this is just a cute way of me reminding everyone that the anthrax mailing scare was just an urban legend, and that recieving a vial of anthrax in the mail would do very little to kill you, unless you were stupid enough to eat or breathe in the powder, or to apply it to areas of your skin which have open sores on them).

  9. not just those two.aliens, godfather 2, spiderman 2 ,army of darkness and other films. i just listed only terminator 2 and dotd because they were really 5 times better than the first one.another good film thats not a sequel but everyone should see is city of god.

You don't mean armour of god do you? The Jackie Chan flick? I thnk there WAS a sequel to that.

    DotD `78 sucked.

only ignorant kids whom never saw the original first or are fans of Evil dead say that

the remake was garbage created my mtv scum for american audiences seeking cheap thrills...the living dead dont run!!!

Glad i'm a fan of Evil Dead then, cuz those movies > Original DotD.

Guess what also I was like 12 when I was the first DotD and it sucked then and it still sucks now.

    So SHUT IT.

K'dash, you seem to have had sand in your pants since you came back, is something bothering you?

  10. hahah that is great...and its true, jay leno does show some stories of idiotic criminals. my favorite one was a criminal robbing a liquor store (of course) and as a mask, he wore a plastic shopping bag. apparently, he couldnt go through with the robbery bc he was sufffering from lack of air from the plastic bag hahah.  :banghead:

they should have left him to die, he really deserved it

If he had died, you can bet he'd win a Darwin! :naughty:

(Darwin awards are given out to the people who make the biggest contribution to the gene pool by killing themselves in really stupid ways (or permanently and irreperably damaging their reproductive organs), thus relinquishing their power to reproduce)

  11. "Captain Planet,

    He's our hero,

Gonna Take Pollution down to zero

    He's our powers,

    Magnified,

And he's fighting on the planet's side"

    "Gonna Help us, put asunder,

    Bad Guys who like to,

    Loot and Plunder"

"We're the Planeteers, you can be one too,

Coz saving our planet is the thing to do

    Looting and polluting,

    Is not the way,

Hear what Captain Planet has to say"

    "The Power Is Yours"

Lol I can't believe I still remember that whole song!

  12. how about the store ones?? do they put something other than alcohol in it so that u can't get Salmonilla

I was kidding about the alcohol to kill Salmonella. Hence the wink smiley face. But you won't (or VERY VERY RARELY) would ever get Salmonella from anything bought in the store. It has to be approved by the FDA to be sold in stores and I don't think egg nog causes anything. That's why you're supposed to refridgerate it.

But alcohol WOULD kill germs, at least if it were strong enough, wouldn't it?

I mean, doesn't iodine contain alcohol?

  13. kick ass indeed, but i rather hav them work on something totally new then milk the FF7 franchise, mayb if they did this a lil bit earlier...

Yeah well, it was pretty obvious that Squeenix would do something to plaease the fanboy masses sooner or later. By some measurement, FF7 is still their biggest hit in a way, so I can understand why they are milking it.

So this will be Final Fantasy VII-2 (A la FFX-2)?
