  1. I only changed the background color of the TV adjust screen to black so that it's easier to adjust it.

No, you misunderstand what I'm talking about. On 128 Plus! if you adjust the skin so that it doesn't extend to the edge of the screen you end up with a grey border around the skin.

Look at the second screenshot BP posted... see how the skin itself doesn't go to the edge of the screen? See how the rest is black? Your emulator puts grey where BP's version puts black. The black looks better, IMO.

  2. I've got a question... I noticed on your 2nd screenshot that the background behind the skin is black. In HK$'s build the background is grey, so unless you overscan the skin you have this ugly grey edge around the skin. The problem with overscanning is that some games have their scores and other hud elements very close to the edge sometimes they can get a bit cut off if you overdo it. Anyway, is that black background an actual part of the skin, or that done elsewhere in the emulator itself?

  3. Not sure what is going on with Gogo. I know he had planned on a new version when he got his new site up... not sure what became of all that. +T+ said he would release a new Pro after Gogo updated FBAXXX since he saw no point in releasing a new Pro patch with Gogo updating FBAXXX soon. Well, as you already know, Gogo's new version has turned out to be not so soon after all... so +T+'s next version hasn't appeared either. It appears we are currently at a standstill.

Gogo made a post just a day or two ago on Xbox-Scene, so he's still around. But he must be busy with other things at the moment.

  4. my friend has a white psp, it's ok imo, not that much different, if I were to choose I'd get a black one tho so it won't be able to see scratches or ugly stuff on it

I would think that the white PSP would be better for hiding scratches and fingerprints. But I haven't seen a white PSP in person so I can't really say for sure, but that's generally true for other white/black items (like cars). But that said: black > white

  5. Hey, I saw your post over at Xbox-Scene. I had to close it because you can't request XDK software on the forum.

But, as to your question, are you patching the correct XBE? 8/26 comes with two different XBE files. One is initially named fbax.xbe and is 3.49 MB. This is the one most people will want to use. Just rename it to default.xbe and use the Pro patch on it.

The other XBE is created when you run the pack.bat file and is 930 KB in size. I don't know all the technical reasons behind it, but Gogo said a few people needed that one. Chances are you don't need... the patch is for the other XBE.

  6. People always want what the unusual color when it comes to things like this. If the first PSP was white, then we would now have a new "special" black one that everyone would want. The new 360 is white and at some point you know a "limited edition" black/smoke one will appear that people will want. It happens with all the systems no matter what color the original system is.

  7. There is not going be another crash. The industry is too big and too popular. It's about as likely to crash as Hollywood is. Which is to say, it won't. People started this crap about a crash back with the PSX and here we are 10 years later with people still predicting the crash and still no signs of it happening.

We may see some down quarters and we will likely see some more companies go belly up, but an industry wide crash? No way.

And let's get something straight here... games have ALWAYS been largely crap. You emu fans should know this and shame on you if you don't admit it. How many NES ROMS are there floating around? And how many are actually worth playing? Nostalgia has a way of clouding people's judgement when looking back on old systems.

Also, that guy needs to do a bit of research before writing an article like that. In one part he challenges the reader to find a major review site that hands out scores of 6 or lower on a regular basis. Well, I went right over to one of the biggest, IGN, and looked at their PS2 review section and counted 8 games that scored 6.0 or lower in November alone with another 6 games that scored 6.1-6.9. Seems pretty regular to me. I'm not going to claim that some games don't get inflated scores, because they do, but that has always been the case. It's simply something you have to take into account when reading reviews. Everyone has a fanboy side or is particularly fond of a genre or series... even reviewers. That's why you should always read lots of reviews and if still in doubt, then rent. But again, this has always been the case.

  8. The battle-log is extremely important in FFXI. On screen damage counts, and messeges are few, and generally worthless. Jobs like Red Mage and Ninja need to pay close attention to the battle-log.

Ummm... the game works on the PS2, so obviously what you are saying simply can't be true. And even if what you say about the battle log being more important is true, the battle log is perfectly legible at that resolution in WoW and the WoW battle log is fairly small to begin with.

  9. personally, games were getting so similar and so multi platform, i was starting to suspect another videogaming crash (like in the 80's where similar issues had arrised) maybe nintendo can once again save the industry.

btw, just for the record ( yes i know gryph answered this), but the industry as it is, would've NEVER been the way it is if it weren't for nintendo.

in fact, i don't think there WOULD be an industry if it weren't for nintendo. it saved teh industry from the 80's crash.

and almost EVERY idea for console (and some pc) games have a major nintendo background in it (like gryph mentioned).

    dpad, nintendo.

more than one button NOT on a keyboard, nintendo.

    platformers, nintendo.

shoulder buttons, nintendo (ever notice how the ps pad looks like a warped snes pad?)

    force feedback, nintendo.

    lightguns, nintendo.

    and more.

I tend to disagree. Yes, Nintendo revived the industry, but if they hadn't then someone else eventually would have. I seriously doubt we would have no video games today without Nintendo, that idea is rather silly, IMO.

As for your other points, there were several controllers that had multiple buttons before Nintendo. Some were number keypads (not keyboards), but if you don't count those (you should) then look at systems like the 5200 or Vectrex.

If you consider Donkey Kong to be the first, then, yeah, Nintendo made the first platformer, though it could be argued that Pitfall is the actual predecessor to sice scrolling platformers like Super Mario Bros. Though I will admit that Nintendo has done the most to advance the genre.

Shoulder buttons... maybe. But if you again look at a system like the 5200 you will notice it has the buttons on the side which is the same concept.

Force feedback... for consoles, yes. But force feed back was around before Nintendo brought it over to the console arena.

Light guns... again, no. Maybe they can be given credit for making them popular with consoles (though they aren't really all that popular), but they didn't invent them (Link Scroll down)

Nintendo has done a lot for the industry no doubt about it, but I get a little sick of people that act like Nintendo not only hung the moon but they invented it too.

  10. Come one people, this happens with every console launch. These days with all the gaming forums around you can always find a handful of vocal people complaining about their broken systems. As Cinder pointed out, you don't hear from the thousands whose systems work just fine.

And really, it's not just consoles. Go to any forum decicated to any sort of electronic device and you will always be able to find people griping about broken or faulty equipment.

  11. I think you guys are either remembering incorrectly or whatever program you were reading you speeds from was inaccurate. Due to FCC regulations that fastest download speed you could possibly connect at is 53k: 53000bps / 8 / 1024 = 6.5 KB/s max. Of course, in the real world, you're never going to see 6.5 either due to line/signal quality and overhead. 5.X is possible on a solid line with a great connection, 6.X is less likely, and 8-12 KB/s (as some people have quoted here) is simply impossible.

  12. Yeah, like PRican said, many people would suggest XBMC as a dash... and that is indeed what I recommend. It gets updated all the time as he said, but IMO that is a good thing. You don't have to update if you don't want.

Whenever a new official CVS build is created the changes will be posted on the XBox-Scene front page. I usually just read through the changes and decide if any of the changes are either important or impact me in some way. But I'd say that 95%+ of the time, the bug fixes that are listed I'll have never actually encountered myself. So I usually just pay attention to what has been added or changed and decide if I want to update.

  13. Well, after trying many combinations I have found that "4 4 65535" seems to work the best. The game will load and play, but it is very choppy. So it seems that this game relies too much on the virtual memory to work well on a 64 MB XBox. The good news is Rockn2, 3, and 4 all play well with "4 8 65535" and I think Rockn1 likely will too, but I'm still missing 3 files for that ROM and haven't been able to run it yet.

Here's to hoping the 360 gets cracked since it will likely make a great emulation machine :P

  14. This is a plea for help from anyone with a 64 MB XBox.

OK, I've got the latest version of HK$'s MAMEoX 128 Plus! and I'm trying to get the rockn series of ROMS working. The ROM that is giving me the most trouble is rocknms. I've tried 41 different VM settings and all have failed.

Does anyone have this ROM working yet?

  15. Hey, anyone find the correct vm.txt settings for TGM2 and TGM2P (64 MB XBox)? I've tried several common settings so far with no luck. The game won't even start.

[edit] Well, I have found that "4 12 65535" seems to work pretty well. "4 8 65535" also works, but the game runs slower. If anyone finds a better setting let me know. Thanks!

  16. Most people really aren't going to care. It only takes a few seconds to find the information on their website or to ask for it at the counter. So the people that actually cared to know the information probably already looked it up. This is just a PR move. In the end I doubt it will make any impact on the fatties out there that eat too much of the stuff.

  17. It's the same principle as various "fishing controllers" which have come before and failed, but now since Nintendo is doing it the idea will now be considered innovative and revolutionary!! Woo hoo!!!

Anyway, I'll give Nintendo credit... it takes some balls to make this your primary controller and not an accessory controller.

It's also reportedly supposed to have a more normal controller shell that that thing will fit into, but they haven't revealed it yet. If the shell is good this idea does have potential, but I'm still skeptical overall.
